I’m still keeping the Novation Launchpad for use in live performances, but I’ll be using the Launchkey as my main controller. Previous video testing the Launchpad: ua-cam.com/video/eWKCpCkNW58/v-deo.html
I like how Novation makes similar use of the pads across all their devices. I have the LaunchKey 49 MK3 and a LaunchPad X - both have different purposes. I was considering the NI Mikro just to get into the NI sounds, but have come to realize I don’t need the device, but I may still buy NI Komplete 13 when it’s 50% off.
@@SEONNTHAPRODUCER I just got a Launchpad X and have been mostly using it with Bitwig and Reaktor ensembles to control parameters with the faders. I also use an iPad and have a Komplete Kontrol S61 keyboard already. Someone wrote a Mozaic script that allows me to modulate CC params with the poly aftertouch on the Launchpad. Last night I was using IOS Snakebud melody generator and it is superb. I never really like generator apps before this one. I use the Launchpad to switch patterns. But really, like you say, I do feel like I have more control overall with just the iPad. I like having the Launchpad for some things but if I started all over again, I'd probably have your setup with a Launchkey (instead of my giant keyboard) and an iPad :) I mix in Bitwig but my iPad is an integral part of my setup. Spacecraft is amazing and I use it a lot. I'm curious which apps you use most as well. I'm really hoping to start my iPad more as a controller. I keep forgetting about the vast potential there so thanks for the reminder!
@@gkillmaster That's a great setup. Native Instrument has a ton of great sounds, and works well in the desktop space. I do a lot of my workflow on iOS. Garageband is still my safe place, but I'm liking a lot of Korg Gadget, Nanostudio, Koala, Ampify apps, and more. I'll release a video going in a bit more detail about my current workflow. I've expanded on my initial workflow but it's hard to explain in a single post.
@@SEONNTHAPRODUCER Thanks and great to hear what apps you are using. I look forward to your video about your setup! I get a lot of advice seeing how others approach things! If you ever use desktop, Portal is a pretty amazing granular processor and I get pretty unimagined things going on using it with my guitar. I keep hoping they'll port it to IOS. I don't have any but I think Devious Machines is creating some pretty new kind of approaches to musical effects. Amazing Noises and ApeSoft are pretty interesting on IOS too.
Thanks for the recommendation. I think I have Dedalus by Amazing Noises. Haven’t dived into experimental delay but it’s something I need to look further into.
Yeah, it’s a great controller. I’m definitely keeping it for use in my studio, although I’m often on the go, so it’s not so much of a travel controller. What apps do you use a lot with your Launchpad?
Honestly I totally agree w u. I feel like I’m always forcing Launchpad into my workflow. I use it always in Ableton but on the iPad it’s meh. If I’m gonna work with a pad based controller I’d rather using something that’s 16pad mpc inspired, like a padcontrol or mpk. On the guitar tip, I actually do use MidiGuitar2 sometimes and play my guitar as a controller through irig. Lots of fun!
Thanks! This helped me make my choice! Going for the launch key. By the way, I am going to see if my Kontrol F1 will work with Koala on Mac (it will certainly not work with iOS). Cheers
Great question. The Launchkey Mini Mk2, and Launchpad Mini MK2 has a low power mode (which does not require external power ). Both controllers in this video do require external power, although I carry a power brick which also has an inbuilt power bank.

Yeah, I agree. It keeps things familiar, while also making it easier to maintain if anything goes wrong.
Great content👍👍
Very good points! And i totally feel the same. Thank you!
Glad to hear. What apps do you use a lot with your controller?

You can MIDI map your controller in Koala for iOS.
Settings/MIDI/ Turn on Use MIDI mapping, and map the buttons and knobs to what you want.
Thanks for this. Does the Launchkey need external power with a lightning iPhone? Or can it be powered by the iPhone?
