Amazon is doing horribly in Sweden due to the country already having a well established and highly competitive e-commerce market with already fast deliveries across the board. Also the swedish amazon website is awful with horrible translations and barely usable search engine. I also know alot of people that refuse to use amazon in Sweden due to their anti-union practices.

i think it's easy to tell who is truly a vet and who is just larping as one based on how they talk abt the military, honestly.
kind of a long story ahead, just an example tho ig.
my grandpa was the only one in his family who served (he was unfortunately drafted) in the vietnam war. he doesn't talk about it nearly at all. i see his ptsd eat at him, i see his anger with how he was and still is treated. he'll show pictures of the men he served with or the crafts they'd make, and he's somewhat fond of that, but he'll never share war stories.
he found out, after one of his brothers died, that said brother had lied about serving his whole life. he would boast to his children and friends about his miraculous war stories, his kill count, how he was honored, etc. like some kind of action movie hero. and that seriously broke my grandpa's heart. he tried to tell his nieces/nephews that their father never actually served, but they jammed their fingers in their ears and wouldn't listen.
majority of vets you meet will tell you straight up how horrific their service was. anyone who brags about the horrors of war is either a liar, or someone to be wary of.

yep. dated a guy in the marines and him and all his buddies all constantly bitched about the military and said they wished they hadn’t joined and shit. they had garbage barracks and garbage food(which they had to pay for idk if that was base specific but they had to pay monthly for the mess hall which surprised me), plus they have to pay for their own uniforms and everytime they got a new rank or medal they had to pay for the medal or the patch and for it to be sewn on properly to all of their uniforms(another thing I was surprised by, a Purple Heart is $50, who knew?), they get to destroy their bodies for nothing as well and develop mental health and substance issues from all the stress, it’s so fucked up, all for like 16k a year, military spending sure as fuck doesn’t go to the people in the military, it goes to aircraft carriers, drones, and private contractors. the only positive is that it disillusioned my ex from being a conservative.

As a former amazon delivery driver, I can %100 say that Amazon has all the means to make the job bearable and minimally abusive as it could be in this climate, however the corperation willingly chooses not to. A single driver who is paid between 15-16$ is expected to deliver upwards of 300-400 packages within an 7-8 hour period WITHOUT breaks & lunches. The AI that is used to coreograph the routes does not take into account, drive time, breaks, traffic, etc. Drivers have no choice but to hold it in, not eat, at some times even endure heat exhaustion all for one person to recieve their package in the day. There's a reason Amazon's turnover rate is so exponentially high. Amazon is the picture perfect image of a corperation that has fed off of the labor and abuse of workers and i simply do not care how ' necessary' the service has become, it is not. It has destroyed small business, impacted the expectations of customers who order from said small businesses, the way people treat delivery service members. Amazon can get fucked and so can Capitalism.

@@UmuPadoru yep. I have several family members that were nurses, doctors, etc and were forced to resign due to not getting vaccinated despite their work places having them deal with covid face to face for like 15 months, overworking them the whole time, putting them in furlough but not paying them forced leave despite saying they'd work because the government said to send them home(before there was even a vaccine yet) and then after all of that they decide to shit on their rights after already abusing them and their own health for 15 months and if they resist, even if they are higher risk of side effects, they have to walk. It's really stressful and upsetting. Like I'm all about being healthy and looking out for your community, but forcing hard working, life saving, medical officials because as medical officials they understand the risks of the vaccine and are not comfortable with it, especially after having to face covid face to face for over a year with no support from the government in allocating resources or medication, it's just the last straw.
I'm torn because I understand the real reason for vaccines of all kinds, but I also understand after being worked into an early grave for an industry that doesn't care about them or go to bat for them now telling them they HAVE to take an injection they aren't comfortable with or lose their job is lower than scummy. They aren't antivax, they're just anti-government-forcing-them-to-vax.

    • @savagewraith
      @savagewraith 2 роки тому +4

@First Name Last Name there's a difference in believing in medical science and forcing it. I believe in vaccines and medicine, I don't believe in forcing people to do anything with their bodies that they aren't 100% comfortable with and giving them an ultimatum to pressure them. I believe in choice, government mandated medicine is such dangerous territory and if you don't realize that, you have no business working in the medical field as you do not believe in the patient first. Imagine this same topic to something more drastic than a quick shot? It's easy to sit back and label other's as conspiracy theorists or loons, it's difficult to stand up and ask questions that they might attack you for. Like I said, I support modern medicine, but at the discretion and choice of the patient, not the government that only cares about it's people every 4 years.

I get the feeling that ppl either "hate" the show because:
    1. It challenges our own perspective (e.g. the discussion regarding Amazon) and they feel uncomfortable or attacked.
    2. It goes over their head.
    3. They just don't want to face the truth in politics and society.
I'm from Germany, meaning most discussions and politicians discussed don't effect me. But saying " I'm not from the US so I don't care" isn't right either. We should all "care" about the political or social situations in other countries. The countries all work together. Laws passed in other countries directly effect me as well. Either through refugees, vacations or just empathy to those who are oppressed.

My oldest brother went to Afghanistan and came back changed forever. That combined with a broken home he committed suicide. Any conversation about the military is triggering to me as I had carried a lot of anger for its part. That my brothers story will always be him at 24. The age I am now. I was a junior in high school when he passed and in the following weeks had to experience military recruitment during lunch time. I wouldn't have batted an eye about the recruitment before losing my brother but after that I could only think of those teenagers going through a similar fate. My second oldest brother committed suicide in the years following my other brother. At this point its more than how the military effected my brother because our entire family is broken. Every breath I take is in pain and I cant even speak for my mother. How can you fit that torment into sentences such as the military sucks or the military is toxic? Maybe more broad sentences that are a node towards awareness of mental illness. What ever the sentence is I hope it deters those who have yet to suffer. Each accomplishment I make is met with a physical pain that my brothers aren't here with me or making accomplishments of their own. It reminds me each time that is how the rest of my life will go, living with out them here. I guess I am writing this to share and express myself in the thousands of comments and to reach someone else who feels similar. To share how someone is grieving in the background of conversations others may find completely normal.

Late to the party here, sorry. I think you're right about a lot of people being impulsive consumers attracted by convenience, and that people are being increasingly discouraged from questioning purchases. But at the same time, a lot of people need better economic circumstances so that they can afford to not use Amazon over small businesses. It seems to be an aggressive cycle that we won't break out of until people are given quality of life that gives them options for how to work and spend. And who knows when that'll happen bc governments prioritise bringing in shitty jobs from bloated companies like Amazon, bc it enriches the economy in the way that best benefits decision makers and not everyday workers.
It's not that we're digging and diving into this hole as a collective, but rather people with power are digging it and we're following out of necessity, ignorance or greed in some cases. We're fucking ourselves over and destroying the planet at an alarming rate, but people aren't educated on alternative economic options that would give them the freedom of choice to climb out of this hole. And so many don't even pay attention to what governments do (or rather don't do) with their money. So, they keep voting against their own interests. Without universal freedom of choice, responsibility for this always comes back to policy and lack of education.
I agree though, we'd all probably be a lot happier with simpler, slower lifestyles.

I was in the Army for 4 years. I went in right out of HS and I planned on going into the military since I was 10 after our parents moved us to Riverside and it was clear to me my parents had nothing for us. It was Air Force at first then the Army at age 12 when I bought a book on Vietnam helicopter pilots. I admired the brotherhood they showed for each other. So I planned to [do] JrROTC in HS as a precursor. My Senior [year I took] a break. I was an 80s metalhead so I grew my hair out. I enlisted the Summer before my Senior year started. I told my parents as the recruiter was parking in front of the house. They acted shocked but hey they had showed no interest in my future whatsoever. My Mom was apathetic. She worked and was the breadwinner but shopping, get[ting] her hair and nails done was more important that simply sitting with her kids to ask them how their day went or what they thought etc. My Dad was a rageholic. The belt was his answer to everything, large or small. My Mom would grab your ears and pinch the back of your arm. This is how they decided to treat a kid they were told by the school was smart and should be advanced in grades. They chose against that and I guess because I was smart everything would just fall into my lap. I certainly did not need the attention of my parents or resources that they had so I could succeed, oh fuck no. Two self centered people always bickering with each other who has more space than the other.
So I get to basic and this 6'4" drill sgt looks at me, 5'7" (I gained an inch in the Army) frame and tells me he could tell I came from a good home and that he was going to adopt me to raise me as his own. Why in the blue fuck would I join the Army if I came from a good home, buttmunch!!!, I said to myself. So from then on he singled me out all the time. If someone else made a mistake, he called me out to be right next to them. Shut the fuck up with telling [me] well this is what they do because you know in combat if someone makes a mistake it can kill everyone. NO. Combat does not single fuckers out. So all those dudes who made mistakes who the DS did not see but decided to call me out on well, their mistake would have killed us.
Oh I saw them. It is interesting to be in that social experiment to where some who make mistakes but do not get caught in how they act and treat those who are getting ridden by the DS. In basic we all are equals but in AIT we all are regular Army meaning our ranks count. Remember that jr ROTC? Well that got me E-3. I outranked everyone in AIT. We were OSUT then which meant we stayed with out Basic barracks and cattle carred to AIT instead of leaving Basic Training and going to student barracks. Oh yeah mother fucker, we are no longer at the barracks are we? This here area is my town now. See that latrine? It needs cleaning. You best get on it.
Fortunate for some of them they went off to other Posts. I only did 4 years but had planned on doing my lifer, IE 20 to get that pension check. Segway.
Which pisses me off now when online and some of these Vets come up here all fucking gung ho about how fucking awesome they are and why can't you just do this or that, stop whining etc etc. Oh mother fucker. 34 years in and 22 years in. Shut the fuck up. Both of you have retirement checks coming to you. So Bama boi with 34 years in and an officer you fucking damn well know you get well over 2K check every fucking month and could probably live off that alone in Alabama. The same goes for you 22 years in who is probably getting 1500 a month which easily could pay for rent and utilities in a hell of a lot of places in the US. Why are either of you not mentioning this check as you judge others of not working hard like you do? Hell if I got either check like that my life would be a hell of a lot different.
So yeah some military dudes suck.

    2 anecdotes.
My husband is active duty Army (about 7 years now) and he was always disconnected from what was happening in the Middle East. It's normal training to do the whole "us vs them", and only after a lot of violence does it turn into "hearts and minds". He was disconnected until my family's house in Pakistan was hit by a "rogue drone strike". Thankfully no one was hurt, but the house was demolished. My family is almost entirely comprised of doctors and engineers. No extremists anywhere. Really effectedy husband with that direct connection.
My dad worked at Lockheed Martin for over a decade. He worked a lot on developing systems to increase the efficacy of targeting systems of missles. After experiencing the shock of possibly losing 20 family members in just a second was horrifying. He immediately quit and now works on developing medical technology :)

I'm working in a small company (5 people) and yes, I make less than the dude who formed it, but we're all taking home our part of the pot. So we're all fucking working our asses off. Not because we're forced, but because we want to. And it's beautiful. We don't have a concept of working hours, nor vacation days (no maximum) and it's awesome. I work when I want. Which incidentally comes down to about 12 hours a day because I love my job. But I'm not forced. I get rewarded. I get my share. And it's fucking awesome. Everyone loves it, and our company is prospering. Shit's fire.
Edit: Just for context - I'm german. I'm living a good life here, and I always have. Unlike americans, I never had to worry about a thing. Socialism is people-ism. A broad spectrum of views where social safety nets, public funding, housing, welfare, disability. Socialism is often mischaracterized as Marxism, based on writings from Marx and Engels, German philosophers who state that profit comes from stealing the value from people's wages.
If someone pays me a million dollars to get a job done that takes a million people, and I pay each a penny, I am paying 10,000 dollars for labor, while profiting 990,000$ off the back of those laborers. To a capitalist society, this is ideal, government involvement via minimum wage or transparency or taxes to the *owner* class to balance the wealth. The only goal is profitability in terms of where their dollars belong. Although different cultures have subscribed different meanings to Socialism for the hundreds of years since the first writings of it in the French Recolution, in effect, it represents a general support of the working class. Some interpretations say Socialism is the cause of any good from capitalism, and without it, capitalism would consume itself in its mindless self indulgence. Other interpretations say that Socialism is a radical violent overthrow, or have used its ideas to appeal to the masses to obtain power, then to turn and run a brutal regime. Like all things, it is hardly the idea that kills men. Moreso the meanings we assign to others beliefs.

    • @Notthemikeurlookin4

      Simple run-up for you.
Capitalism = One or more people own company (means of production) and workers sell themselves to that company for a wage. Say that wage is $15 and the product you make is $50, well you get your $15 but then you created an additional $35 of value. Some of that $35 goes towards purchasing more material to make more products, some of it goes to shipping and other things. Say that those things cost $15 also, well then you're left with $20 of profit which the owner/s of the company (who did nothing to create that value) takes for theirself to do with what they will.
Socialism = The workers themselves have more of a say in their workplace. Meaning that they get to democratically decide wages, conditions, material purchases, and profits. This is the ire of a capitalist because then profit is not maximized for their own end. It is a system that puts the worker first instead of the owner.
This is the very basic sum up of those two things. Peace!

One day the company tells their employees how important they are and the next they get fired because the profit margin is getting affected. I know it looks grim as I'm saying it and it is but there is hope. The simple fact that you are educating yourself and realising how important unionizing is a one step in the right direction. Influencing fellow co-workers into listening to leftist like Hasan or Sam Ceder helps educating the workforce.

I’m literally working my 10 hr nightshift at Amazon, and we used to get two 20 minute breaks and one min thirty lunch break, but now they cut the 20 min breaks down to 15 min. :/ not to mention that our breaks are monitored scan to scan meaning we’re timed 15 minutes from the second we last scanned an item to the next time we scan an item. Btw it takes five minutes to walk to the break area, which means we ultimately get two five- minute breaks throughout our 10 hour shift plus the thirty minute lunch, which isn’t scan to scan. Smh.

It can get pretty depressing to start adding up all of the unpaid, non-work hours that just go into having a job. The hours of getting ready & commuting, the hours of work that you need to put in to afford transportation to & from your job, etc. It feels like people, in the US, especially, have a chip on their shoulder about working themselves to death for unfair compensation because any alternative is "Communism". We get "Freedom" propaganda shoved in our faces, but then it can feel like work is the main purpose of our life, everything else is an afterthought. At this point, it feels like having a good work/life balance at a fulfilling job that can sustain me is some utopian pipe dream.

hi! native south louisianian here. honestly it's hard to imagine the level of income inequality in this state and states like us unless you live here or spend a lot of time here. the numbers and data just don't do it justice. there's such a stark contrast-you're either rich or struggling to live and surviving check to check, in my experience. there is no true "middle class" here. you both are completely right, that anger at the rich and powerful gets turned onto all the wrong people, and the lack of access to education just deepens that hatred to what they perceive as the people trying to keep the poor poor by giving them "handouts". idk i'm rambling a little, but i just wanted to thank hasan for bringing up this point. a lot of people ignore the effects of the massive wealth gap on the south, which is the place it probably affects the most. i love this podcast so much; thank y'all for starting it!
