I believe this level is not only the best in the game, but exemplifies the idealized form that the game should’ve taken. The multiple pathways actually offer different experiences, the rail grinding section is actually rewarding and challenging as you must use maneuverability, speed, and shooting accuracy to maximize your skill, and the uneven terrain gives you the rare opportunity to utilize the parkour abilities Shadow has life strafing, wall jump, slide cancel, gun hover. Shadow’s controls, slipperiness aside, have an incredible amount of depth and variety to them and it’s a damn shame they were never properly utilized. The closest they came was here.
I feel that lava shelter embodies the neutral path’s disconnect from what the game is and how it differs from other sonic games, how you need to traverse it by playing shadow’s levels like you’re playing a normal sonic game, just going to the end, ignoring the missions, in fact, the later stages on the neutral path tend to be more like sonic levels(mainly sky troops and lava shelter), how black doom is significantly less present in this route compared to the rest of the game, with the neutral route mainly revolving around eggman, and how the ending of the route doesn’t involve black doom at all, and doesn’t give any conclusion to the conflict between humanity and the black arms following eggman’s death. It feels like it’s own game. Lava shelter doesn’t really use many of the mechanics introduced in shadow and mainly expands on what previous 3d games did, like rail grinding.
Always liked that, considering the Black Arms and G.U.N. are the most prominent factions in the story, Eggman still has one of the most awesome and badass level themes in the entire game.

Yep. It's one of the few endings where Shadow is motivated purely by self-interest (that ultimately won't do much to help or hurt the planet), and doesn't care about anything else. G.U.N. and Black Doom really don't have much stake in this fight, hence why you don't fight them. It all makes for a fitting conclusion, since it's the penultimate stage of the true neutral route.
Dr. Eggman expected Shadow to activate his lava defenses to protect himself from GUN. The reality is that while it does prevent GUN’s access, it also contains Dr. Eggman, thereby trapping himself within the volcano. Shadow realizes this and doesn’t want anyone to access Dr. Eggman before he does.
I believe this is the best level in the entire game. Reasons below: 1) The level design is pretty good with some fun spectacle pieces. 2) The hero & dark choices make sense with Shadow's character. If you side with Omega, you race towards Eggman per Shadow's original goal, but if you instead help Eggman, Shadow rephrases the mission statement saying he only activated the defenses so nothing gets between him & Eggman, thereby not making it just another heel turn. 3) Activating the defense system increases the difficulty of the level, making you rethink how you're going to get through the level which is pretty cool. And 4) the music is awesome. Need I say more?

The fact this song isn’t on Spotify is a crime
I wish that this game was just 3 different chapters instead.
Dark stages ---> Neutral Stages ----> Hero Stages.
SPOILERS:
A little sad there was no Lava Shelter stage in SXS, it really would've belonged in that game.
I remember these awesome mixes of music from Sonic stages and Soul Eater from over 10 years ago. One of them had this stage song in it. Sadly, I don't think they're around anymore, probably got copyright struck at some point. My favorite was Wisp Blitz if anyone remembers those vids.
Sky Troops, Circus Park, Westopolis, Lava Shelter, Death Ruins. They could have pulled any level from Shadow 05 (Okay, maybe not Lost Impact or The Doom) and it would have been better than Chaos Island...
Omega's theme song before it's quite obviously than "this machine" from sonic heroes
One of the best levels of the game
THE BEST
I’m still mad that I can’t listen to this on Spotify. What do you mean I have to go to UA-cam?
I need this song on sonic x shadow generations
Great news me from the past, its real, it is in sonic x shadow generations
I'm here because of Diamond Bolt
YES! I was wondering when the DB fans would finally show up!
Badunci He is great. He has got amazing sense of humor. But this is ONE of the reasons why love this music. The whole soundtrack is awesome.
Me too.
I am as well
DiamondBolt out
Tied with GUN Fortress for the best level in the game. The speedruning potential is HOLY for a casual player like myself, easy A ranks, and its a stage based around rail grinding (for the hero mission at least). Like bro did you just code heaven in your game?
Damn those Egg Pawns on the balls with the bombs.
I hear lava powerhouse in this, Imma bet none of the people here, even knew that there was a second level in sonic spinball
I remember just barely reaching that stage, only to have no clue of where to go. [Mega Collection Plus, PS2]
I knew there was, i beat that game multiple times as a kid.
Damn this theme is awesome
Anyone else reminded of Lava Powerhouse?
Is this a remix of lava powerhouse!?!?!?
I can hear some part that are similar to Lava Powerhouse and the level having "Lava" in the name but otherwise, both music are vastly different
its just me or somr parts of this music remembers of that the prodigy music
You guys the egg man boss ?
"the MORE THE MERRIER! "
was trying to finish it fast and re match it 4 times and you can imagine...
My favourite track of the game.
I've never played this game, but this song is pretty cool 👍
YOU'RE GOING STRAIGHT TO DELL
"Why you little? It's nothing but pieces of scrap metal! ASUS is better!"
"While grinding pressing the x button will make me do a 180 to make me gain a burst of speed"
In college my friend left his phone unattended on the table in the café so I played this traxk on his phone. He wqas like "What're you doing?!" and they he was like "Actually this is really good"
why is there no ending where you side with eggman and join the eggman empire 😔😒
Eggman: Activate the volcanic defense systems!
Omega: Find the center of the base!
Welcome to the HELL ZONE!!
Welcome to the HELL ZONE!!
Welcome to the HELL ZONE!!
This was my favorite stage ost ngl
Best level in the game.
I wonder why there's no ending where Shadow decides to join and serve the Eggman Empire! But instead we get an ending where Shadow will rule the world with Androids, so stupid (and the Neutral Dark ending could have been the Neutral Hero ending instead with Omega present)
Yeah. Especially since due to Adventure 2, it would arguably make the most sense for Shadow to take that kind of path.
The dark mission on Lava Shelter should have ended with Diablon and Eggman as guide instead of both of them ending with Shadow and Omega fighting Egg Dealer.
Hero Battle Royale! Sonic vs Mario vs Calvin and Hobbes vs Invader Zim vs Frogger. The prize? All seven Chaos Emeralds…
Diamond bolt sonic their list
SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG: SSS TEIR
Everything else: DOOM DIMENSION
best thing I've ever seen
*I'll make you wish you never created me!*
0:52 Ratchet & Clank
Man on the mission theme😎
The game maybe is bad but music ROCKS!!!!
Shadow Ultimate99
I don't think this game is bad. In fact, it's my favourite game in the franchise.
Shadow Ultimate99 agree
DragoonCommando 1235 it's a fun game
I hate sonic games only shadow the hedgehog was my favorite part of the franchise. The story was so dark and complex.
I love this black hedgehog since 12 years
