Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

Weird Idea. You can use anchor blocks to connect 2 vehicles together as part of a colossal ship, and have a 2v2 with those giant ships. The controls need to be seperated for all the weapons on both halves, as well as controls for movement.

I was thinking how about a 2v2 but each person has to build part of the vehicle and the only information they have is where ignis going to connect

@@softpaw6234 that would be kinda akward to try and work with... the whole point is one part does its intended purpose, same for the other half, you slap em together and you get frankenvehicle
@@crustybomb115 the awkwardness is kind of the point of my suggestion; they've done a similar concept with cars and boats in Scrap Mechanic, but to my knowledge never in this game, never in combat, and never with flying vehicles
Do a dog fight where you have to build a plane but spin a wheel for each person to decide which plane that person will participate with for the round

Now THIS is a good idea, but, to make it fair, you have to make it easily flyable without ANY dynamite for an easy kill.
Frankenstein it, and have to combine the front and back of two planes! Have to have a mid section that everyone builds from so all designs can share front and back sections with each other.
So you could build an overpowered plane and get a trash plane that someone else built

Idea: a battle where you can only shoot when at supersonic speed.
Should make for some challenging builds and entertaining battles, while also being easy to implement with speed sensors. Plus it can be done with a few different vehicles, so you can choose( or even make it a mini-series)

Great Idea, supersonic speed can be really well implemented in the space map using the quantum hyperdrive glitch (where you spin the quantum rudders really , REALLY fast using servos). Yzui did a video on it. If you make a set of two quantum hyperdrive things on the TIPS of the your wings, and make a REAL long wingspan, you can go to light speed in like a second. That speed is multiplied by how much space is between the two modules, so big wingspan mean big fast, real fast. (Every 4 blocks adds about 100 MPH) So yeah, that would be awesome!

4:30 dear Scrapman, if you don't want that overcompensation effect, try putting on the nose of the plane, instead of the normal small fins, perhaps the small energetic fins that create more resistance.Or maybe you could put them on the back of the plane, I recommend trying both ways and seeing which works best
Because many WWII bombers (namely the B-17) didn’t have any nose guns, Japanese fighters quickly learned that all they had to do was fly straight at a B-17 from the front to destroy them.
Then the Eager Beavers created a B-17 with so many guns (all of which were .50 cal) that the Japanese fighters couldn’t even get close. Including a nose gun.
The Japanese were really good at flying right at things
Maybe for your next challenge you could tell everyone that they're just building a normal plane for a normal dogfight but actually you are going to dogfight using another persons design.

Next time put a 5 sec repair or respawn cooldown because instant repair negates the overpoweredness of the blimp or other vehicle

i'd love to see something like this where the over powered thing is trying to get to a goal or destroy something and the other team has to stop it
Dogfight but the planes can only get lift trough gimbals.
A lil tip, generaly you want your Center of Mass, in front of your Center of Lift

idea for trailmakers: the creations where you put hoverblocks on servos so they can spin fast and you can stay still on the water, but with emps so the servos can get disabled, and the hoverblocks will stop spinning wich will make you fall in the water
I have built a lot of these, and I can say that the way it works isn’t quite like that. As long as you can move above ~20mph, the hover blocks work on water either way because you’re moving fast enough. It’s only if you’re not moving on the water that you need the spinning, as that means that the hover blocks are moving while you aren’t.

*_Fun Idea: Overpowered Spaceship vs Space Turrets_*
As usual, it is a competition of who can survive the longest as the OP team.
*Turret Rules:*
The turrets have a generous (for a fighting chance) Block Limit , a Energy Limit (not a Weapon Type or Count Limit), & have to be anchored to the ground(so add an anchor pin the the build). As usual, this team can respawn & repair indefinitely. You do not have to place your turret in the same spot every time, you may move it if it gets destroyed, disabled, or is being glitchy & unstable.
*Spaceship Rules:*
Don't stop moving, No repairing or respawning (as usual), Don't leave the play area, & No Melee.
*Area Rules*
This is played on the space map. I think a good spot to play would be the Asteroid (you know the one), with the turrets being on the asteroid itself. Another being around Gallina 9 with the turrets on the 3/4 of a ring around the station. Around & on GC4020 also works I guess but it feels too easy.
If playing at the Asteroid, the play area is everything within & including the asteroid belt. Otherwise, players decide I guess.
_Please keep in mind that these rules are just my ideas, and a lot of them go without saying, but I decided I might as well say them anyways. I don't even own this game so definitely don't take any of it too seriously._

Have you ever considered utilizing indestructible seats as a primary building block in these builds as a gag?
Hey Scrap... for a more maneuverable and stable (no under-damping) plane:
~ Try to have the center of lift and center of mass in the exact same spot. Try to have the center of _pressure_ (drag) as far behind the center of mass as reasonably possible. (In real life or a more detailed sim/game with static or dynamic stability analysis tools you'd actually want center of pressure to _also_ be as close to center of mass as possible for a highly-maneuverable military plane, but I don't think Trailmakers' aero model is even complicated enough for this to matter in play, let alone the tools to analyze it sufficiently in building it. Plus, y'know... without aerospace engineering training, those tools are pretty opaque for most people. xD )
~ Do not add weight to achieve this; move the wings forward or back, add lift to the tail (the elevators don't count as lift, but flap wings do), or move heavy functional blocks forward and back (guns, engines, cockpit). (I just about died when you were at 101 blocks, looking for one block to remove, and didn't even consider removing the weight block, which was like, 1/5 of the entire weight of your plane! D: )
~ Keep heavy items near the center of mass longitudinally for roll, and fore-aft for pitch maneuverability, to minimize rotational inertia in those two axes. Those two miniguns way out near your wingtips were devastating to your roll maneuverability, and why it was slow to roll... and the engines at the back and rockets at the front didn't help your under-damping (oscillation after pitch) problem either.
~ Always, always have pitch trim capability (and a good key binding for it that you can use instinctively and quickly in flight once you're used to it) so you can trim out to keep your reticles steady with no control inputs at typical combat speeds and attitudes. In a battle in which you'll be repairing a lot (thus resetting trim), I might have it default to a good combat trim, maybe at the expense of the keybind.
Advanced options include considering vectored thrust, whole-moving tails, and logic for a toggle between a precision targeting mode (smaller control movements) and an emergency maneuvering mode (larger, faster movements). These all take a lot of parts, though, and/or have a much higher skill-ceiling to pilot, so ymmv.

I like how scrap does biplanes like every time a plane challenge happens, but the one time it's historically accurate he goes for a jet

I haven't seen anyone else's strategy, but I would personally have chosen to go with a biplane or maybe even triplane design, as having those extra wings lets you really slow down a lot without stalling. My theory is that, if you could get in front of or behind the blimp, you could then just slow down a ton and try to kinda hover in its blindspot. Also, and advantage of being able to be closer is that you don't need as high of a top speed to keep up with the turn rate, so you'd be able to stay in the blindspot more easily
I have an idea. You should do something like this again, but create a unique plane AND a unique blimp to make each round different. It’s more exciting for you guys, and also for the audience.
Scrapman, there is a solution for the pitch, all you need to do is add a gyro, both removes the bouncyness and adds manouverability. 👌

Kinda funny the fact that me and my friend did this in space when spacebound came out. One person was in a brick with like 200 lasers, and a plane with 1 laser kept repairing until the brick died
Would love to see more "OP" battles. Tanks, cars, boats, an op land/air/or sea race....there are so many wonderful options!
Idea: non moving turret vs non moving armored base. Place 3 chairs in the base and if the turret destroys stop a timer. Base that survives the longest wins

Ayy! I remember suggesting something like this. I wonder if you could get a crew for the blimp. One Pilot/Captain, one for each of the gunnery decks. Add more than just lasers.

What you pointed out about the modern fighter jet design seeming unstable is true.
Modern jets are designed to be unstable to increase maneuverability. The downside is that such a plane is hard to control by humans, which is solved by using fly-by-wire, aka just slap a computer in there to keep it stable. (Although I guess a computer doesn't necessarily need fly-by-wire)
This would be the same reason as to why Max Verstappen prefers an unstable car. It's harder to drive, but you get a high top speed with amazing cornering (as long as you can keep it on the track).
hey scrap, if you save ur plane/helicopter to your quick select, then when ur falling, press and hold r and select 1,2,3,or 4, deending on which slot u saved ur build to and the quickly press f once ur build shows up. it will work

(A Probably Interesring) idea: Mothership vs 2 planes
Mothership: Has 2-5 guns(depending on the type) of choice, has automatic flying drones that automaticly attack enemies that get close. This might be hard to make but you can increase the time for the mothership or for everyone to make a single mothership for everyone to use
Plane: same conditions as always

I have discovered a trick for untimate speed, but it uses many power cores.
Take the space engines, the little circle ones, and put one on two 1x2s stacked horizontally on top of eachother, then copy that little build in a line. Then, take 1x3 flat connectors and place two on each side, it doesn't really matter if they are on top or bottom, just as long as there are connectors on each side. Now, the first two engines should be connected in a very small little package, congrats, you did it. Now, rotate the little package 90 degrees and connect it to the first set, now it is longer. You may need to use more 1x3 flat connectors. Some may have even seen a tiny little rocet/missile thing that goes really fast, has no wings, and is really ugly, I most likely did that.'
How to build:
TOP 1x3 flat connector.
1x2. Circular >>> 1x2. Circular >>> 1x2. Circular >>>
1x3 flat connectors x2
1x2. Rocket. >>> 1x2. Rocket. >>> 1x2 Rocket. >>>
BOTTOM 1x3 flat connector.
For an upcoming multiplayer Monday you should do a capture objective kind of game in the space map. For the game each player builds a ship capable of grabbing a parcel/crate and see who can hold it the longest in multiple few minute rounds.

If you want more pitch, logic block it so your tail splits farther and tilts, but have it as a separate key

Space _ship_ battles. But you have to build them like an old style ship, where you have to shoot using the 'broadside', you can't shoot forward or backwards.
I think an overpowered land ship vs small attack cars could be cool
And the land ship has to drive as far as possible before it gets destroyed
You guys should do one where you have to ram each other with the planes. No weapons on the planes and you have to try to take out the other planes and still survive

A Ukrainian pilot once had a midair collision with his F-15. The right wing was completely sheered off. The pilot managed to regain control of the jet and fly it 10 miles to land. With one wing.

You should do a battle with planes that only have 50kg weight blocks but some are attached by detachable blocks so if an EMP hits you your plane goes off balance.
It's kinda funny he says to make it maneuverable and then makes a plane that he says will be harder to control
Idea: a deatachable cockpits emp second person emp submarine dogfight but the emp must be controlled by another person (someone drives the sub and someone else controls the emp) and also only the driver has a second person perspective (the person who controls the emp can help the driver)

Interesting idea: do a mech battle where the only rules are:it has to walk and look somewhat like a mech and at most have 1 of all things in wepons catagory or 2 of 1 thing unless it is tiny or smart cannon than you can have 3 of it.
You guys should do one where instead of having a max block limit or power core limit it should be a minimum limit of like 400 blocks or like 30 power cores

Breathe deep, surround yourself anything that is served in wedges, light some candles and meditate. The wedge will show you the way.

The reason why fighter jets of today are built with small distance from main wing to tail... is because it helps with maneuvers, to the point where flight correction computers make it so its not completely difficult to pilot

Do a 2 v 1 of any type, but only one one of the 2-team gets a gun and the other gets EMP. So the attacking team has to coordinate.

Idea: Melee air fight. Make flying crafts designed for melee combat, either through melee weapons or a craft designed for ramming, last one still flying wins.
