  • I am going to be honest, this was not the video I intended to record and post. I went back and forth about whether or not I would scrap the idea of using this product in a review video. Please watch the entire video because I think this is a really important lesson to us as buyers. I was fully ready to just discount this product and the company because there was no way this paper could be used as described on the MSQC website! Thankfully some research on my end proved that the product I purchased didn't have the proper description!

    Kudos to you for questioning and trying to research why this happened like it did. I hope you can find the product that you had in mind and that it works wonderfully. Can't wait to see a video in that!

      @@sewbeitquilts uggggh. I suppose it's good that it wasn't a pattern with a lot of density. Good luck!

      Very true. Also the stitches are so loose after ripping the papers makes the stitches so loose it is easy to rip the stitches out. It’s just tedious.

    I think you should let Urban Elemenz about your experience.
    They may be pleased to hear so that they can check how the poor advertising of their products by retailers can affect customer satisfaction.

      Oh that’s a good idea. I am having my husband help me write an email to Missouri Star since he is much better at written explanation than I am (he is an attorney and writes all day 😂)
      I will let urban element know too.

    That product is to be used with a long arm machine. It's not to be sewn on. The design is to be followed with a laser light or stylus.

      I explained in the video what happened. I realize that, but that is not what the description of the product said.

    This is a longarm pantograph. Typically it's placed on the back of the quilting machine (on the table) and you follow the pattern with a stylus. I agree with you that the description on MSQC is not correct.

    Those pantographs are used on the longarm. I read the description on MOStar and they have the descriptions wrong. The ACTUAL tear away sounds interesting.

      ALSO - BE SURE to order enough tear away packets - The have the coverage area listed pretty far down in the description box of each product.

      I think the description is so misleading. Granted I should have researched a little first, but I do think they need a better description. It looks like I may need quite a lot more of the tear away! It may end up pricey! Thanks for letting me know!

  • @margecampbell4667
    @margecampbell4667 Рік тому +1

    spray the surface of the paper with plain water, it will tear away better & won't hurt the stitches. You are using a panto, not the tearaway tissue that is meant for the top of the quilt.

    • @sewbeitquilts
      @sewbeitquilts  Рік тому

      Yes, I mentioned that the company has a tear away version which I thought I purchased because of the listing.

  • @margecampbell4667

    That paper you have is meant to be laid out on the surface of the longarm machine and never touches the quilt itself.

    I bought this pattern from MSQC when they had it on sale. I do a lot of longarm quilting, so I am familiar with the product and completely glossed over the description where they talk about using spray adhesive to put on your quilt! I can definitely see how if one is looking for this type of product being confused when it doesn't work as you are expecting it to.

    • @sewbeitquilts
      @sewbeitquilts  Рік тому +2

      I honestly went back and forth about whether or not I would post a video because I know I didn’t use the product correctly. But with the description I really think others might have the same issue I did.

      @@sewbeitquilts I think your approach on your video is perfect. I can see how others would be confused by the description. After watching your video, I posted a review over at MSQC about the description not correctly identifying the product. Hopefully, it will bring the problem to someone's attention.

      Did you think they were tear away too! I was beginning to think it was just my interpretation of the listing. A lot of people think it was clearly listed for long arm.

    I do my own. I have this tear away, but I traced it on to a thinner paper and then quilted. My threads do stretch from time to time, but mostly it tears away really easy. Most of the time, I don't have any problem I do about 12 stitches per inch on my desk top long arm. I think once you wash it, the threads will go back. I trace many pantographs out like this, but they can't be overly detailed, or the paper will get stuck. It works it way out when washed, but sometimes it takes more than one wash. But I will say, you need a fairly close stitch to get a good tear away, or it will pull badly on your threads.

    • @sewbeitquilts
      @sewbeitquilts  Рік тому

      I wondered if the threads might go back after washing since cotton can stretch. I was scared to finish the whole quilt and find they didnt shrink back though.

    Unfortunately you got the wrong pantograph paper. I have used the tear away product using the spray baste method. I have to say I was disappointed with spray basting it. Even after washing. If I try it again I will pin it down. Thank you for your review. It makes me feel better about not really liking the product.

    I’m not a long armer, but as far as I’ve ever heard, a pantograph is for a long arm machine.MSQC description said for long arm. There may be a product with tissue-type paper for domestic. So sorry you had a problem. I sure hate ripping out quilting stitches from my domestic, so I can relate.

    • @brendasue2278

      It does also say “use adhesive spray, attach to quilt...”
      that part is definitely misleading. That paper was way too thick.

    My tear away Urban Elements design is on a tissue type paper. I haven't used it yet because there are only 5 sheets per packet ... not enough to finish a whole quilt.

    • @sewbeitquilts

      I don't own a long arm so maybe I don't know what to look for in the post. But for me that didnt stand out. I tried to be upfront with the fact that I didnt use it properly just in case someone else thinks they are purchasing a tear away like I did.

    Great review, Fallon. Have you shared your concerns with MSQC? I think that they would appreciate hearing about your experience, so they can change the description on their website. It’s possible that they either ordered or received the wrong product from the manufacturer.
