The frantic, over the top energy is so mesmerizing to watch. I don't think N.O.U. get enough credit for so strongly influencing the 90s screamo Gravity type of stuff. I wish I had been able to catch them live while I had the chance.
I saw them open for fugazi At about this time. 2000 people Who didn't have a clue what they were looking at, including me. Then a couple weeks later I saw them in a basement venue with bikini kill, and it blew my mind. One of the best shows I've ever been to in my life
A couple nights ago, a friend told me that when NOU crashed at his place back in the day, they all wore matching pajamas. Now that’s commitment to a schtick and self-mythology.
Damn, wot a show roster. A dream of all dreams was to see all three live. Saw fugazi several times from '89 - '95 in Austin ,Tx.(Liberty Lunch, r.i.p) However, NOU refused to play in Texas. As Beat Happening wouldn't either.
Well, of course - the poor kids on the dance floor need a rest after Thee Ulysses…also Cal Johnson was in love with Fugazi, I read a public love letter by him about ‘how great’ Fugazi was in som rag somewhere. It was sweet and I thought it was cool bc Fugazi had changed my view of what Punk and post-hardcore could be in 1989 when I first heard Fugazi’s red album and Operation IVY on the flip side of a cassette during a juvenile mental hospital stay. Those 2 bands a newer Big Black record with a really good live drummer, which I found out much later was indeed the singer/guitar player of Big Black with the rhythm section of Scratch Acid and they called themselves Rapeman, which was a name that still evokes strong reaction and shock. Those 3 bands broadened my Rockn’roll horizons, all on one tape!
1. Spectra sonic sound 2. NOUSPTDA 3. Love is a bull market 4. Look out! Soul is back 5. Aspirin kid 6. The sound of jazz to come 7. Cool senior high school fight song 8. Mockingbird, yeah! 9. Shakedown 10. The hickey underworld

@@mikeholmes1459goddamn Mike, that's two amazing shows to have seen.
Love how the first things Ian does is a bunch of flips and splits and immediately rips a hole in his crotch to start the show off, lol

I always loved that too 😂
I like the sound and their energy, but I don't like the suits XD these guys remind me a bit of Drive Like Jehu.
The suits add flair. Keeps things sort of weird and different from other acts. A breath of fresh air
