This is wonderful! I am a homeschool parent in the U.S. As far as U.S. public education goes, I know my children are receiving a far more rigorous education than they would be receiving in the public schools. Also, my kids are more "socialized" than their public school counterparts. Instead of being sequestered in a single building all day with others their same age, they navigate the community and interact with people of all ages and backgrounds. They participate in sports, field trips, library and community events, faith-based organizations, etc. My children are often complimented on how well behaved and well spoken they are. We are so grateful for the freedom to homeschool.
Well done to the Ong family! I salute your courage and conviction to homeschool your brood. They can articulate very well. To travel as a family of 8 for 6 months is priceless. Wouldn’t trade that for a traumatic MOE school system!
I love that they have their own orchestra
Great channel keep up the good work!
Thank you Sue for sharing. You inspired me and my family with your 6 mths campervan as a family. We took a year off last year to do the same too! A year to travel, learn and serve the communities we visit. Such a real learning experience that we wouldn't trade it for the world!
When Hugh (the narrator) said "the parents failed the mathematics, including us" made me laugh. This was a fun educational video. 👍 #OnTheRoadTo100K. #Robloak.
I got to know a lady from SG who homeschool seven of her children. She gave me lots of books. Her husband was also so suportive to my homeschool. She passed away before I had a change to meet her. But I had a change to meet her husband. Both of them have passed away. Both are very devoted Christian. I missed both of them dearly.
Wow the family trip is such an interesting concept ❤
how do they learn to adapt to new environments and learn to work with others?
Precisely!
They usually have playdates and excursions or do voluntary charity work with other families. The pros is that the parents chose who to hangout with. Just like how parents choose the 'good' schools. Just that these parents know each other. I have met some, they are usually very well mannered and excelled in many areas. But I do know one family the kids might not be aware of some of the festivals or cultures as much cuz they don't celebrate them like in school.
The same way everyone does
Group lessons with other homeschoolers, group tuition like
Berries or similar, playdates with friends, other lessons like chess, karate, coding, etc.
Students aren't allowed to talk to each other at school anyway :)
@@lissalowstudents aren’t allowed to talk to each other in school ? What? That’s not true at all. They interact and work together all the time. What about PE, group work, active learning through play, seated next to each other in class and helping each other with their work…
Strong minded kids amazing
I have been home school after the age of 12 as I was found to have dyslexia. Now I am older, what I feel is that I learn different things and my family were very supporting on what I may be will be good in. So I do go to some for classes like art or sports to make friends in different cirule of life.
Being homeschool have it Pros and cons. Pros as I said early on is that I do and learn different things. Cons is the road is abit longer, but you can still sign up on the MOE's Private Candidates Examination Level GCE O-Level or A level and still go to the University.
What I feel the main challenge is how people will view you or when they make comments on people who does not go to school being bad people and etc, sadly that is something that can not be help as people are pretty bias about people who study. You may feel out of place when you sit in a group of people and what they all talk is school life. But it did make be think about when they were talking about school life, I feel like I did not miss anything. Yes, there are some opportnity you will miss as a homeschooler but it is the same thing when you go to school as you will miss the opportnity on somethings.
I make alot of different set of friends and go into different enironments very well in differenty stage of my life, that may be because I got to learn things you will not learn in school.
Great video !
I think my kid would hate me if I chose home schooling lol.
That maths tutor is so pretty.. 👀 #OnTheRoadTo100K. #Robloak.

interesting topic! keep up the good work 😊
They use S.O.T. Curriculum. I also experienced this.
I think go to proper school is better . Period .
Depends if the parents are financially capable, high EQ n IQ, well exposed n travelled. School caters to majority of the public. Meaning a capable child has to wait for the teacher to do classroom management of 30-40 and spend 20% of the time on the clowns another 10% on keeping in line and walk to another classroom, late for 1/4 of the class because of others disciplinary issues in class, depends if the school that the child goes to, rabak or well disciplined with healthy attitudes, the amount of things to learn n time spent fruitfully will differ.
if they have the ability to grow the child more holistically, why not. There are home schoolers who travel the world, live with different people and culture, go diving, learn cooking, soak in science centers, art galleries, playgrounds etc, learning in different ways but at the end take the same psle exam. They learn math n science or languages by life experience. It's a different approach in learning.
There is no one fixed way that is better than the other, only what is most suited for the family. Looking at this video, we see how these children learn confidently and independently. These are great skills that most children don’t have and I think that shows that proper school is not the only way. Good to always broaden our perspectives!
That's the ACE homeschooling curriculum. I personally was from their program before and I honestly don't recommend it.
If your child is not mentally or clinically sick, don't ever use ACE school. Please let them learn normally through normal school means as the math and science related subjects are very questionable and bad due to strict following of the Biblical teachings. Such as the science subject legit teaching Earth is no more than 3000 years old, and the math subject is extremely laughable compared to the normal education system.
May the option of homeschooling of ANY kind be legal WORLDWIDE!
how do they get a job?
like normally lah
The same way anyone else does. I was homeschooled. I had my first job at 12. It's great because my lesson schedule was more flexible. I was able to do and learn so many things and socialize with all ages not just my peers.
I worked with young children, at a Vet Clinic, with a Naturalist, at a Lumber Co. I did volunteer work in many areas.
When I became an adult, I worked for a business and had my own.
They are fluent in English good job😊
Good, the kids in this video certainly don’t have the singlish accent that many school kids in Singapore have! Clearly home schooling works
nothing's wrong with having a Singlish accent anyway
It's irresponsible to leave a math question hanging and not give us the answer at the end 😂😂
