Hi Alex, I’m a new subscriber but I’ve recently been watching a lot of your videos, I just wanted to say I recently (in the last couple days) closed(paused) my Etsy store, been open 10 months without one sale, plus I have a Shopify store with same products(not linked ) but Shopify store has made a few sales. Now I only have 60+ listings on either, I just found I’m spinning my wheels on Etsy getting nowhere.

@@MelindaMindyI mean, mathematically speaking; working 13 hours a day (especially at something that heavily relies on the amount of production) would GENERALLY make you 10x more likely to be successful than say someone who only did 10 minutes of work per day.
But of course as with everything, nothing is “universally true” when you weigh in the tiny exceptions in a general statement.

I work about 12 hours a day, 5.5 days a week, at my day job. So, I always post at least one more listing every day even if i worked over 12 hours that day, that way my store is always growing closer to my end goal.

I haven't gotten a listing every day as it's taking longer to come up with new ideas and some days my ideas don't work out as imagined so i drop it. But I have about 100 listings and get about 3-4 sales a week.

I had 1 yet, with 18 listings, in 2 weeks. Already completely changed SEO of the products like 5 times. 😀 Not sure if I should just add more and more in current system (I have 1 product type but no particular sub niche), or implement a sub niche strategy... How did you get to sell 1 a day?

Every time I get very tired at the end of my work day of my drab corporate job, I think about the number of listings you always talk about and I start posting. I truly believe changing the measurement can change you from a short game mentality to a long game mentality. Measurements are arbitrary so choosing the right one for you is so essential. Aiming for 4000 listings makes me not anxious at all about my current sales since it'd be less statistically likely for me to not make more sales when I have more listings. It's like an investor mentality vs a spectator one. You are really helping people and doing good here, I second George!

@@LukeJT22 If you are looking for some inspiration, sadly I don't have much. With the amount of competition and the endless pages on Etsy I was having no luck. So I closed the Etsy store and changed approaches went with Shopify. I enjoy making my own content and not something that I am forced to created and hope it sells on Etsy. Created my own store online and I am much happier. The process takes weeks to open, a good amount of money up front (don't listen to anyone that tells you other wise), and you have to generate your own traffic. It is a lot but I'm enjoying the process and I will have something that is my own and not tied down to Etsy. I wish you the best of luck with your endeavors. I believe it comes down to more than units of output. You can do 100 times the work, but your output has to provide value. I'm sure we've all seen shops that have very few items, but their products provide value that people are willing to pay for, and the inverse where someone slaps up a thousand designs that provide no value at all.

This sounds strikingly similar to me. VFX animator, industry in shambles. I worked in the trades many years ago as well. So rough on my body. Call me a wuss or whatever but I'll take a deskjob with music, AC and flex hours hands down. I'm still lucky to be employed in animation but I'm going to get ahead of the curve and set myself up to leave by choice before I'm forced to leave, whether that be in 6 months or 5 years. So many of my colleagues have been out of work for 6-12months, it's rough. I've been taking strides for the last 2-3 years to break free and it's growing. I want this so bad and the writing is on the wall so I'll do whatever it takes. You have to build the future you want, it won't just fall in your lap.

I literally don't care how much time I put into it, because I like making art anyway and I don't consider that a loss. So I don't think about how much time I spend making this stuff at all.
