    I’ve had a tin of Peterson Deluxe Navy Roll for about a year. I just cracked it open this evening, and it is the first time I’ve tried this blend. I lean towards straight Virginias, and I must say that I really enjoy this blend. It’s easily in my top 5 favorite blends, maybe top 3. Thanks for the review.

    Always a great description of what to look for as I start my journey with pipe smoking again, it's good to hear what tobacco should taste like? Gives me an idea of what i'm looking for in the blends.

    Good evening, im about 4 to 5 months into pipe smoke and picked up a few tin of Peterson De Luxe Navy Roll a top fie video i saw early one and itsthe blend that really developed myself pipe smoking pallet. Hands down my favorite blend out of what i and tried so far. I pick up Escudo to inorder to compare for my self and smoked a pipe of both with in hours of each other while I do find them very similar I agree Escudo is a touch heavy on the perique and I fine Peterson a touch more breadly. Anyway great video.

    This is one of my go-to's. I find myself buying a few tins every monthy or two just to make sure I have enough to make it a regular in my piping routine. Certainly agree in that it's not one to be smoked back-to-back but at least once or twice daily IMHO.

    Thx Wilson for smoking again in front of camera!😊👍
    Honestly, it seemed really rediciulos to not to smoke a tobacco but talking in detail about it!🤦😅
    Any way, this format seems much more familiar to most of us, smoking and talking about what you are experiencing at the same time taste wise or smoking quality wise and so on!
    Most probably most of us would appreciate you keep on doing reviews in this much familiar format man!🙏🙂

    I’m newer to pipe tobacco, a year now I guess. I picked up a couple tins and opens one up. It’s just ok to me, I put it in a jar and will have another go of it in the spring.

    Thanks for sharing. Personally I place Escudo Navy rolls in my top three favorite tobaccos and I've never tried Peterson as a result of thinking that it was more or less the same as Escudo, watching this video has made me rethink that and perhaps I'll give it a try.

    Just had that come in today’s mail. Will try it soon. I’m at the point in my piping experience that all these different tobaccos and blends are becoming a bit overwhelming. I keep hearing of pipes for certain blends, but there isn’t really a chart to describe this. It seems to be purely up to the individual piper. I’m sure, with time, this will sort itself out.

    I was just smelling it! For me the perique smells of leafy material that is halfway to being oil. It adds an interesting vibe to the smell of tobacco.

    I don't believe there is a topping. Compared to the current Escudo (and lately, many vapers) it has a much more pronounced perique plumminess. This may be a reason people suspect it is topped.

      @@bencarter7839 It's close, that's for sure. Since it's my main smoke and I've smoked hundreds of tins of it in my life, I can certainly tell the difference. I get a slight apricot flavor with the DNR. Keep in mind since I have so much in my cellar, I'm always on a 5 to 10 year old tin. The age does make a difference. I'm sure people will say I'm nuts.

    Ok, you addressed it. Thanks. I think they’re close, but also depends on age of the tins as both age superbly!

    • @AdamStJamesStJames
      @AdamStJamesStJames 11 місяців тому

      When is the last time you smoked escudo? I have a few tins of escudo in the cellar, and got some new recently. Recipe has waaaay less perique now. Maybe my taste buds aren't as sensitive as they were back when I first tried it lol but I'd say if you want a Virginia Perique and the price tag isn't prohibitive, get the Peterson navy rolls. They're way probably what you remember escudo being. Not that escudo is bad, it just has changed.
      As a less expensive alternative, Sutliff has Va. Perique in a crumble kake that is very similar to me to what escudo once was and what Peterson DNR taste like now.

      I for one don't enjoy the crush and stuff at all,, it creates air pockets and reduces density and for me that thins out the smoke too much..

    A random question, I see a lot of navy references on pipe tobacco, what does that indicate? A Virginia blend?

    • @briarreport8408
      @briarreport8408 11 місяців тому +3

      Doesn't mean much. Traditionally, tobacco that was rolled and/or pressed to make it easier to carry onboard was thought of as Navy. They also added Rum or Molasses to many blends. Sometimes Rolls (coins) are referred to as Navy blends, but so are blends with those additions. It's a very loose term.

    Hahaha, $12 a tin too expensive, you'd have an aneurysm in Canada. The cheapest you can get a 50g pouch of Captain Black is about $35. More boutique blends? Think like $50-$70 per tin.
