The retired doctor/photographer is such an amazing man, he was very educational.
Wished it was a longer chat with him. Amazing careers, knowledge n experiences he went thru n still looking so young for his age.

He’s a gem
I think he is gay...
@@easternworld2302 I'm just curious how did u infer that from this video?
when I watched it, that never came across my mind, my first few thought was he was very gentle, well manner, well spoken, prob more education than alot older people from the south(US) and very culture with prob a fascinating life story to tell.
Katherine dressed in traditional Chinese clothes is more beautiful than modern clothes.
That retired doctor has such a warm, gentle, and kind heart…it’s amazing how you just meet strangers like that so easily!
I'd have to say hanfu is quite nice on ladies. But it looks even better on you.
Would expect Katherine the great to come up with something like this, strolling around in a hanfu dress and dancing in front of markets with a pair of sunglasses. Perfecto!!
Great adventure.
I am in love with Chinese traditional dresses they are so elegant ❤️❤️❤️❤️🥰
....
Except not paired with a pair of sunnies aka sunglasses. It is like holding Christmas in the peak of Summer. Never the twain shall meet. 😅😅😅😅😅😅
Videos after videos, I am more and more amazed by the quality of your content...
As a French individual living in the UK, I relate to your experience as an expatriate but you pushed it to a whole over level my dear (how is it possible to master to that level such a different language haha?).
My interest for China rose up after reading China: a new History by John King Fairbank as well as the Japanese Invasion of Korea 1592 - 1598 by Stephen Turnbull - and I love the fact that every single one of your videos are contributing to the education of your public when it comes to History, traditions and culture(s)! (whether when you focus on specific minorities such as the oroqens or the tibetans or when you go around in those different regions with amazing architectures, landscapes, food specialities : Inner Mongolia, Sichuan, Anhui etc.).
Your intellectual curiosity and the natural manner in which you engage with all those different people is very refreshing to watch. Any interactions is source of teaching about different aspects of modern and ancient China culture and habits, how and why China is changing/has changed and most of the anecdots are very interesting/entertaining to listen to.
Format is also great : images, video editing, lenght, music backgrounds - you are killing it on every aspects!
Last but not least, that very distinguished "Hanfu" suits you perfectly and brings out the blue of your eyes - Wei is without any doubt a lucky man... Wish you a lot of success in your personal, professional and UA-cam life!
Thanks for your support 😁😁 I am always working to improve the quality of videos and get more interactions with everyday people. If you’re interested in how I learned Chinese there is a video about that 😛 ua-cam.com/video/c2QqWt4tvws/v-deo.html
How do you like the looted Chinese treasures stuffed into London's museums?
Wow! The motorcyclist guy is so amazingly up to date with Geo-politics! He is objective too. He is able to differentiate the American people from their gvt "Americans treat us well, but their gvt does not."
Old wise man told a fascinating story.
Try battling 汉语拼音 with him, it's a perfect lose lol
You are the perfect example of what Bruce Lee meant when he said "When you put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle. Be like water my friend". You are exploring China not as a foreigner but it seems like you have become chinese so the way you experience China is from within and not as an outsider and so your experience of China is much deeper and your viewpoint you share with us here on UA-cam is much more valuable. I love it. And even the local people like the ones there in the vegetable market are astonished and almost it seems to me envious of your ability to integrate in a foreign culture. You are awesome!
Wei should get you a permanent hanfu cause you look so good in it !
嗨,我要买汉服在哪里啊?
All 3 of them stride like men !
That old guy was such a sweetheart.
Why is no one talking about him.
I am from Brazil and I have been in China for four times. In 2014 I bought some traditional chinese clothes to my wife. When she wearing the clothes on the streets, people started to laught of her. It was a funny day.
OMG,these Hanfu clothes you guys wear are so gorgeous😍. wish one day I could try that. BTW, congrats for reaching 50K subscribers!
Come to Nanjing😛😛😛

明天 (Nov. 7th) 就立冬了。 今晚北京都下雪了。 你那里晚上多少度?
Btw are you a men or a lady? Those 3 are ladies and not guys.
This vid makes me miss China and its people so much 😭 hopefully i can come back next year, please continue showing the hidden side of China and it's people! Reminds me of the things i used to do there as an expat. This + your environmental education video really shows what modern Chinese people of all ages are like.
So glad we have good China content creators nowadays, back in 2015 when I was getting vlogging info from China we had to rely on SerpentZA and Laowhy86 😂
Just saw a guy claimed he does not need to go to China to know China as it’s enough for him to have the very two guys you mentioned as his sole source.
@@murphytalk Back in 2015 and 2016 even though their content was a bit skewed, it was fairly educational on what life might be like there as an expat.
Except they'd always throw their tinge, being the "original china vloggers" or this kinda stamp of "real china" there.
I lived in Huizhou in 2016 and Matt (laowhy86) filmed my roommate and made some slanderous comments about him being an expat who is uncultured and just here to party get drunk and sleep with women whilst knowing none of the language.
Little did he know that my friend passed HSK5 that year with flying colours and was kinda my first motivator in getting better at the language.
After that little stunt Matt got shunned by most of the expat community in the bars and some bars outright barred him. Even expats thought he was a scummy piece of work back then.
Guess the moral of that though is: don't hang out with other foreigners all the time when living in China! When i moved up to Shandong afterwards i mostly interacted with Chinese people and my life was so much better for it.
@DSki Dski Your point? Good samaritan laws were changed due to this incident. Almost like the govt does stuff! What a surprise! Good to see the reaction of Chinese people and it's govt regarding that incident ended up in people being more aware of good samaritan laws and thinking better of one another.
Meanwhile in the 470th mass shooting in the USA this year, still no change in it's policy regarding firearms and people's perception of firearms. Do you wanna change things after one bad incident and one death, or do it after the 482nd death in a year?
@DSki Dski No one said china is perfect, but compare to barbaric and racist murica, they are better 😂😂
@DSki Dski Oh no, bad person does bad thing? Is that unique to one country?
How about we talk about good examples of people in the world instead of smearing each country for odd cases of people doing bad things? Or can you not take away that kind of context from my original comment?
Doesn't take an idiot to see the constant fearmongering and vitirol that is built up against Chinese people due to smear campaigns by Western media in recent years, which negatively affects ALL east-asian people in the west.
Do my Chinese friends deserve to be assaulted or racially abused in my own country (UK) due to this rhetoric? Or should we strive to be better people globally?
The Simplified vs Traditional gives an interesting metaphor of the evolution of China, Simplified provides efficiency and faster communication (hence growth), but in doing so, sacrificed deeper meaning and the human side of culture/life. And language itself is the basis of how it influences the culture, the philosophy. The old generation knows this well.
The retired doctor, I would love to meet with him to understand his life experience. Love your work Kath!
写简识繁,书法艺术很多方面都用繁体字啊,喜欢的人也尽可以去写繁体字,对于国家而言汉字的简化还是非常有必要的。
ancient chinese(文言文) plays a more important role in keeping traditional culture. but no one is complaining about abandoning it. why?
This video was such a joy to watch! Everyone seemed so happy to see you ladies. And you guys looked like you had a lot of fun! Thank you for sharing this experience! 🖤
I love Hanfu. The fabric, applique and embroidery so enhance feminine delicacy, softness and gracefulness. the adornments on the hair can be so artistically done. The so enhance your prettiness! You guys look so pretty
.... try to walk and speak like the ladies of the Song Dynasty. One way is to hold up the right hand sleeve and speak behind it. The photographer sings the kujn(?) opera very nicely.
What a very colourful, cultural and conversational video! :D
You ladies are so pretty. I"d take your picture too.
Katherine, you sure do know how to live life. It certainly looks like a lot of fun. Thank you for sharing another interesting adventure with us.
Look forward to your next.

You look so comfortable and elegant in your hanfu costume. Hanfu has made a comeback in China.
That was so interesting, loved every minute. My face was like 😃 throughout!
You are super. Full of crazy ideas. I do not understand, that you do not have millions of likes. The best are your shoes.
Going back into Time guys, thanks for showcasing the traditional Hanfu fashion!
Do I have to have my eyes checked? I thought I saw Yang Yang with two of her girlfriends and they were dressed in Hanfu clothing of the Song Dynasty era. Do you meant that is a form of cross dressing? Pray tell. 😅😅😅😅
别来蹭热度好吗 泡菜
So cute when Katherine dress in Chinese traditional costume!
🥰🥰I hope you enjoyed your time in Nanjing . You looked beautiful in the dress you picked .This older man is very sophisticated and very knowledgeable and interesting . I’m surprised to see Katherine understands Chinese poem . It’s definitely not easy to understand the definition of Chinese poems at least for me , did you post that particular part me to watch with subtitle ? They like Americans not their government? 😂I believe many of them agreed, this is one of the fun trips you have shared with us . I can tell you looked so happy to go back to Nanjing . One of your favorite cities with so many good memories .Love & blessings 💕💕
You have many interesting things you have found. Loving it, is so easy.
What a refreshing scene of harmony between different cultures. I very much appreciated this Vlog. After all we r all humans.
@DSki Dski Its Zhou Jiaoming and Wan Qiuming -Chinese family names comes first, DON"T DISCERATE CHINESE NAME. Names should not conform to western world order.
Salut à tous et à toutes! You three looked gorgeous in 漢服. And your natural long hair was just perfect. You rocked in those clothes... I was literally transported to the Song Dynasty. I love watching historic Chinese dramas and series especially those involving Chinese martial arts: think Crouching Tiger style where both men and women freely moved in the air. To me this was superheroes, Asian style...
I came across this video while researching clothing for a novel I’m writing, it was beautifully shot and, as I am learning, the traditional dress of Hanfu I’d strikingly beautiful! Thank you for showing it off!
Kath, you looked like an ancient princess with the outfit. 🌹🌹, Greetings from Malaysia.
You three look fabulous and elegant in those tradisional Chinese outfits, more beautiful and attractive than when wearing western dresses
That gentleman is truly a gentleman. Well-spoken, sapient.
I love your outgoing adventurous spirit Katherine!
Haha .......that must have been so much fun! Hanfu is such a graceful couture especially for the ladies. But it requires one to be less in a a hurried mode to bring out its gentle, graceful elegance hehehe! Certainly how one walks makes the huge difference. But, personally, I love the traditional Chinese outfit and as an overseas Chinese myself, I wish hanfu would become more mainstream. 加油!
I am an overseas Chinese too, and I have worn Hanfu out in public from time to time, only gotten compliments, just do it!
You guys look like really pretty lead actresses from a Chinese romance drama tv series such as Till the End of the Moon or The Journey of Chongzi !
I should stop binge-watching your videos ahahaha
I LOVE China and I LOVE to see videos about it; in fact you and Blondie in China are my two favourite youtubers :)
I really hope that in future I can come in China for having great adventures just like you !
me too I’ve been obsessed with videos from these two gems!
Better to learn some Chinese before you go :)
@@jerryfish09 I started about one year ago, but only as a "hobby" because I also have to study for University ... Glad you like the videos , more coming soon🌻😎
Simplified Chinese was a necessity at the start of the rebuilding. Many were uneducated and simplified
characters was needed. It's that simple.
Bravo Katherine, you look very beautiful in Chinese costumes.
I have always wanted to travel to China, these videos allow me to immerse myself into the culture a bit and pretend like I’m there.
This is comical. So incongruous with the traditional garb and the sport shoes. But fun! I bet the 3 girls had a super time making heads turn😎
Yeah they offered a shoe rental but I knew we were going to be doing a lot of walking so stuck with the ugly un-matching sneakers instead 🤪
Hanfu is sooooo beautiful!!!!!
Kat, you are gorgeous in Chinese traditional clothes!
Wow! Such a beautiful experience you have shared. The Chinese people really are so friendly that they become like family in five minutes. You know Jesus said "Love your enemy" and you are showing the world how that's done for real! Now the world is finding out why we cannot be enemies. I just hope that I can get back to China before I have to leave this planet...
I cant' get over how adorable and wholesome that section with the photographer/Dr guy is ❤
You ladies looked so gorgeous in Chinese traditional clothes !
they are so elegant, because ancient time those outfit are for princess. for the elite, normal folks outfit does not look so luxury
Lovely video, beautiful ladies and 汉服!❤️❤️👍👍🙏🙏🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳Thank you Katherine!
You look so beautiful wearing traditional Hanfu and hopefully this costume will be China national costume where the Japanese have their Kimono and the Korean have their Hanbok and China should have Hanfu...
Love yr sense of humor.I hvnt seen many westerners like u before. The world wd b a much better place to live and enjoy if everyone like u everywhere.
Nanjing is underrated! I've been there quite a few times, travelling from Shanghai. One of my favourite Chinese cities.
I think it's more on par with Hangzhou than Suzhou is and in a parallel universe where the KMT won the war, Nanjing would be the capital of the Republic of China!
Haha, the war is not over yet, and even the armistice agreement has not been signed. You can help ROC win the war. look forward to the arrival of all US aircraft carriers in the waters of Taiwan.
@@smithmartin7550 There are many things to admire in both US and China. Win-win cooperation can benefit both while interfering in the internal affairs of each other brings no good to anyone. Here's a fact that more than 1.4 billion Chinese people know in their hearts: the centuries of humiliation are over. There is a saying among Chinese people: ''We treat our friends with good wine, but for our enemies we got shotguns.'' 1.4 billion people have got DF-21 and a few other things to greet the uninvited invaders who dare to trample on the sovereignty of the great Chinese nation.

You don't know how lucky you are to have met that man. His knowledge is priceless seriously. Don't underestimate his knowledge. I wish I could get in contact with him and find more people like him. He's a walking encyclopedia and a good teacher.
Here is a weird and probably long shot idea that won't happen. If your hopefully still in contact with him, pitch the idea of him posting his knowledge online. UA-cam would be great. He could make a channel and post the info he has about China immediately after world war 2, and how it was shaped back then by the West.
Whoa, what a FUN episode this time

At 4.34, you were dancing outside the wet market : My 83 year old mother laughed so hard her false teeth omoz drop 😨❗ She said if everyone dance like that in the Song Dynasty, the emperor would've fainted 😂😂😂❗

No, the Emperor did not faint, it marked the decline of the Song Dynasty. The saying of a face that launch a thousand ships, this dance was the dance that signalled the decline of the Song Dynasty. I have on good authority from Su Ma Chian, trust me.

At 4:40 the song is “梦醒时分” an absolute classic 😆
This was a really fun video. Love the 汉服
5:29 It can be quite confusing as Bai Lu Zhou (Shoal of Egrets) of Li Bai's time (8th century AD) is not where the current park is. Note that the Yangtze flowed right by today's city wall 1300 years ago, that anything _west_ of the wall (plus the wall itself) didn't exist, except the shoal we are talking about. It was a moderately sized island located at today's Jianye district. The park (on the _east_ side of the city) was originally the private garden of a Ming era (14th century AD) duke, named after the fabled shoal only in the 1920s when it was transformed into a park and opened to the public.
