I really like how Okina's final spell changes depending on your sub-weapon, but I was expecting the Stage 4 boss to use a mechanic like that out of tradition.
Hawelo92 the random battle is basically Okina's last spell and Stage 5 boss fight in this game... In stage 5 boss, you will face different spell if you kill Mai or Satono. While last two spells are the same...
Oh good, it's not only me who feels the difficulty jump between stage 3 and 4 was incredibly noticeable. Also that stage 4 reminds me faaaar too much of MoF's. As for stage 5 bosses, I haven't memorized the boss' name but I prefer the patterns of the one that isn't doing Tojiko style thunder/zigzaging attacks, so I usually go for her. Honestly I just love the variety, there's tons of replayability for more casual players. And the music is lovely, if not as bombastic as 14 and 15.
"The current generation of Touhou players seem to have this already covered anyway." - ha, you sound like an old man. I really dig the game for some reason, something about it is just kind of... refreshing. I think it's the massive amount of combinations you can try out allowing for a lot of different playstyles. The demo made me fear that the game was going to be too easy but that thought went away seeing the Stage 5 boss probably topping Clownpiece on the difficulty scale. Music is great too, but that's to be expected. Either way, nice run as always.
Regarding the opinion for Mai&Satono: You will eventually get used to the stage 5 attacks I think. But yes, the new bosses are candidate for beating Shou in most difficult/obnoxious stage 5 boss(es).
They not only bring curving lasers but curving/horizontal amulets, persisting lasers, random directional stars and aimed bullets from the bottom of the screen to boot. It's like ZUN purposely put the bane of most typical shmup players into one boss fight, and they overlap as well.
@@erikkarver8480 I still think Shou is harder. Mai & Satono's patterns are all about the mind games. Usually the way to beat them is extremely straight forward, but they look crazy and the chaos makes it easy to mess up.
Everyone and their moms are bashing Touhou 16 and here I am thinking "Man, I'm so glad this game isn't another 15, it's great." Granted, some stuff felt pretty mediocre while I was playing it, but considering the scope of how I dislike 15, I really felt refreshed after trying this one.
Why do people constantly bash the new Touhou games upon their release? I don't even see why this game would be an outright bad game. Admitedly, it has flaws, but then again almost every Touhou game had one. If anything, the only things *I* found rather "bad" about this game are: 1. The broken release system 2. Repetitive attacks from Eternity Larva 3. Sakata's nonspells 4. The survival spell card in extra stage. But then again, these factors are fairly ignorable.
I don't really see that many do such a thing. Maybe for one or a few aspects disliked (The most I've seen is with Junko's fight, which is to be expected since she was made to be very simplistic and to be hated), but when it comes to a whole game each release, it's mostly a very vocal minority that does such a thing, really.
I'm just hella glad this game is back to being fun. TH15 was actually the only touhou i despised and had no fun with (tho i did find my 2nd favorite character in hecatia so there's that). Disgusting taste on my tongue waiting for this game lmao. Dunno why people think this is worse than 15 considering 15 almost had nothing done right outside character lore. Good shit.
Junko's patterns worked in tandem with the lore so I was ok with them (didn't like actually dodging them though because they were mostly micrododge which I'm ass with lmao). I didn't like how Normal mode felt and looked the same as Lunatic. Clownpiece is the biggest offender of this as some of her spells deadass look WAY easier on lunatic. Her first survival for example should be switched between lunatic and normal. Seemed like Zun forgot how difficulty scaling worked both actual difficulty and gameplay wise. (Ringo-Doremy feels like going from stage 2 to 4 immedately ad then Sagume felt like a stage 3.5 boss or something. Some people had more trouble with CP than Junko. I dunno, maybe I should try to give it another go. Though I feel like 16 fixed all the problems 15 had.
I find it's a problem when I can have a run when I no-miss Stage 6 but die on Stage 5 6+ times. I really like this game but man is the difficulty jacked a bit.
WishMakers stage 5 is absolute pain but stage 6is kinda relaxing... Every spell is doable... Except for spirit coming from the bottom then homing at you after hitting the top... And yes of course Okina's last...
I really like you, Jaimers. I love this game tbh, but I like and am honestly more interested in hearing people's gripes towards whatever I like, which includes this game, unless they are merely bashing, which is what certain people (mainly Touhou "genwunners". lol) in the fanbase do when it comes to each game releasing (luckily those type of people are in the minority), but you're not one who simply bashes. Be it positives or negatives, you're one who explains as much as you can to make your thoughts or opinions be as understandable as possible, something I can't help but respect and adore. I think you should make reviews. :P
Beth Masey >The fandoms bashing the game Oh just waaaaaaiiiiiit for a moment It's just the peeps who judge a book by it's cover too fucking early Years later if th 17 demo comes Everything will be reversed again Saying 17 is worst 16 is good game Just like in 15 Just wait
So just a 'meh' verdict from the main man then. Seems about right. It's not the most remarkable Touhou game ever, but it's hardly a disaster. What is remarkable is the fact I cleared the game on my first real go. I'm with you on the releases because with CirnoSummer I got 8 of them and they saved my arse a lot of times. And yes, the game really is very easy for the first 3/4 stages or so. Final boss wasn't all that hard to start with either, though the stage and fight itself are both rather good.
So from what I have seen from pretty much everyone at this point. No Release runs is the way to go if you want to have anything resembling challenge? I planned to do No Release runs from the start. Hearing this is great then.
Well No Release is indeed a challenge... I have most games 1cc´d on Lunatic (All except UFO, TD and HSiFS) and HSiFS No Release is proving to be pretty freaking difficult :/
This feels like a Touhou geared towards scrubs like me who beat early Touhous on lower difficulties by jacking up the number of starting lives. Give me all the tools and I can maybe pull off the 1CC! Honestly it looks like a lot of fun to me, I'm looking forward to trying it out.
I couldn't really put my finger on why, but Stage 3 has the best music of the game imo. Then again, Stage 5's boss theme makes me laugh. (Also, isn't it something like "Crazy Backup Dancers"?)
The final spell actually changes depending on which subshot you're using, with a wide disparity between them. The final for Winter is the most reasonable and well-designed one, since you can stay under the boss and the only real RNG in it are the green bullets I think. The final for Spring on the other hand is uh... kind of ludicrous. It's harder than Junko's final by far and I'm not sure yet if it's for the right reasons.
Jaimers91 all four finals have fixed boss movement patterns. yes, even spring does not have random boss movement. spring is still the hardest one by far i feel.
There's only two things that piss me off about TH16 : the RNG patterns at stage 5 (especially the fucking shitty stars), and the vomittable, atrocious, detestable 3d shit in the background during stage 6 boss. Like what the fuck is this ??? Blue bullets on a blue background ? That was a retarded choice design-Wise, even if it's meant to increase the difficulty, it's a fucking bad way to do it. Otherwise the game is good, lots of choice with shots, overall game rather enjoyable before stage 5, and outside of the RNG bullshit and the shit 3d background at stage 6, it's still relatlively good, patterns are rather nice and pleasant to view, as expected from a Touhou. Not the best, not the worst.
I agree so much. UFO and TD were peak ZUN art. HSFS has by far the worst artstyle of the past few games, rivaling EOSD for sheer derpiness. For some reason every time I see the title screen, all I can see is Elmo. The music from this one was pretty great, though.

This is not the *best* Touhou game, but it's certainly the most fun of all of them.
I've never had this much fun playing a shmup before this game.
Everyone and their moms are bashing Touhou 16 and here I am thinking "Man, I'm so glad this game isn't another 15, it's great."

@Supreme Xenon
This comment aged like fine milk.
(Not judging, lol. Hindsight 20/20.)
@Supreme Xenon Even tho I love 17, after playing both 16 and 17 endlessly for a couple weeks, I gotta say 16 is even better IMO.
I'm just hella glad this game is back to being fun.

Not necessarily meh. More like mixed and weird. lol
The release system is pretty good for beginners and opens a possibility for no-miss no-bombs ultra runs
Nobody is going to care much about NMNB runs when releases are allowed. Releases are typically the first thing that are cut in challenge runs.
Okina Matara
What a wonderful phrase.
I love the first boss's theme. Great song.
yeah mino's video uploads is all about touhou16 lately... no wonder he's addicted
Nothing beats the excitement of deciphering a new release's patterns. ^_^
P.S. Thanks for the shoutout Jaimers.

i love breaking shit in this game with releases. it is so fun. mai and satono are bae as well.

that stage 4 intro Strat was completely glorious
I would love to see you play the Cirno game where you freeze bullets, Jaimers.
Agreed with the difficulty spike. It's even worse than PCB. Still a fun game, though.
I couldn't really put my finger on why, but Stage 3 has the best music of the game imo.
Then again, Stage 5's boss theme makes me laugh. (Also, isn't it something like "Crazy Backup Dancers"?)
I love the Satono and Mai. Mai is my favorite. I might cosplay her.
I'm preparing for those kinds of people.
hummm seems like Okina's song is a 're-mix,inspired redo' version of NecroFantasia.
上手い!
at least its looking like Zun did the right thing and lowered Reimus damage.
I hate when I can't release 🥴
Bro what do you mean 😭😭
AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA 🥰
Man, the final spell for Reimu seems way easier than Marisa's in comparison. At least until towards the end.
The final spell actually changes depending on which subshot you're using, with a wide disparity between them. Oh, then the Fall one just really messes with me cause its red and orange bullets on that background. Even if it is static.
Why do videos only get many comments around the release date
Have you try NieR:Automata the [E]nd of Yorha Solo?
(No-Release) Yes
Why does Matara reminds me of Junko?
Please don't use safe spaces

How you have shot sound? My game don’t have it
25:44 what this text is saying?
better than lenen haHAA
Never know Len'en haHAA -_-
Barack Obama ok, thank you for the answer..... Now I know what haHAA is (I though haHAA is the new Len'en game)
Yay new touhou game !! More waifu joining the waifu group :v
Sure this game is easy if you bomb or use releases
wait, was that Lily White?
Yep
Still doesn't have a portrait though :(
Here comes dat Elu Tran
Oh shit waddup
mino shilling detected
Artstyle is kind of derpy.
What do you mean by that exactly? It looks fine to me.
Looks like a really cheap artstyle. Like old anime.
Typical Touhou art style then
Is this the first time you've seen a Touhou game?
ZUN's art has gotten noticeably better over the last two years.
I agree so much. UFO and TD were peak ZUN art. HSFS has by far the worst artstyle of the past few games, rivaling EOSD for sheer derpiness. For some reason every time I see the title screen, all I can see is Elmo.
The music from this one was pretty great, though.
