I am old enough to remember the story of the burning monk and watching it on the TV, it had a massive impact a 9 year old boy on the way I think about religion (and, of course, the Vietnam war which was also engulfing the country). Very nice video guys, I enjoy your positive attitude and outlook towards the country's you visit.

Knowing VN is growing economically and will have more corporations, I really hope VN continues to have an abundance those family-owned eateries and shops where there are unique characteristics instead of being like the US where everything is part of a franchise/brand with little characteristics. I think that's why Europe and Asia are so unique. Great choice on the tour guide you guys and thanks for taking the time to post the video.

You can find durian in Chinatown for sale. That's about it but not grown here. I was in that same place with the burning monk. I think we had to walk up an incline then a good number of minutes walk to that area with the display.
To answer your last question about Durian in the US, I've never seen any. As a traveller myself am actually surprised by how many fruit types are not sold commonly in the US. Small bananas, passion fruit, granadillas and other common fruits around the world are hard to find in the US.

And what are your thoughts on the rising dengue fever cases? Thanks for your insights! :)
Van Nguyen: I heard similar stories about other vacant buildings from the locals. But I know that the people of all of South East Asia (not unique to Vietnam) are very superstitious and would believe anything they hear: perfect target for unscrupulous politicians and scammers. When I told them that the story is hard to swallow, they'll counter with "if it weren't true, how come people tell it?"
Today is my 20th anniversary since my first trip to Vietnam,it was so incredibly exotic and otherworldly being there and I went back four times, even married a Vietnamese girl I met there!! I haven't been in 15 years but trying to plan a visit in 2020 but I know it's changed a lot as most special places do when mass tourism takes over....I just hope it's not yet the next Thailand!! People there have become jaded and cynical and I would hate that to happen to the wonderful Vietnamese people.

You guys gave one piece of advice that I wish I heard before visiting Vietnam and that was to take it easy on the coffee lol. I got sick from drinking too much coffee and being dehydrated.
I used to live just around the corner from the place of the burning monk Thích Quảng Đức. I was raised as a budhist by my mum but I remember she was very sad about that incident. She said the monk protesters formed a ring around him and didn't let people to come in to rescued TQĐ. She said they might drugged or did sth to him before driving him there.
Annie Tran well, that’s not true though. What the heck are you saying? Drugged him to burn him, and he stayed still in the burning fire? Your mom are using facebook too much maybe. Facebook in Vietnam is toxic, you know?

Aww you should learn a lot from our videos, we hope!

interesting facts 😊👍❤
Thats what we thought!
opinion, not a fact . Propaganda by communist is very easy trap. Now all Vietnamese want to kick communist out of their land. No one like communist evil.
Coffee with butter. . Never taste that before. . Hmm. Wonder if it taste good. . Thank you for this video. Small youtuber here love to travel with my wife. This kind of video giving us idea for our channel. Thank you, you inspire us.
tasted good if you used good butter ( like the one show in the video , abit expensive but it the right way to drink butter coffe using that company butter ( import from French ) my grandfather and mother drink butter coffe with that butter every day
it taste like coffee with butter inside
@@inouelenhatduy when i saw this video. i tried to make butter coffee. I just use ordinary peanut butter and instant coffee. It taste good. But I still love just a plane black coffee.
The coffee preparation at that shop (Cheo Leo Café) remind of kopi in Singapore. Probably just as pleasantly addictive ;) )
Its so so good!

Can you give me the right translation for "When a monk became a human torch then the whole world was illuminated" in Vietnamese 🌹🙏🇻🇳
You can find durian in Chinatown for sale. That's about it but not grown here. I was in that same place with the burning monk. I think we had to walk up an incline then a good number of minutes walk to that area with the display.
Its crazy! so interesting!
To answer your last question about Durian in the US, I've never seen any. As a traveller myself am actually surprised by how many fruit types are not sold commonly in the US. Small bananas, passion fruit, granadillas and other common fruits around the world are hard to find in the US.
This is so true but it must be so hard to ship them in time
If you come to San Jose, CA..... plenty of durians, jackfruits, tropical fruits imported here. Huge Vietnamese community here bro.
Aww thats so cool! We will have to visit!
@@DivertLiving come.... Plenty of Pho restaurants here in San Jose also. I visit VN twice a year.... I might be there first week of Sept. BTW, if you have a chance... go to Da Lat... i love it there.... My family is from Da Nang and Da Nang was my fav until i went to Da Lat last year. Anyhow, enjoy VN. Cheers!!!!
Hey you two! We love your engaging videos and have followed your journey throughout Vietnam! We are now planning to visit the country ourselves from end-September to mid-October (south to north). Due to the monsoon season, however, it is a bit of a risky travel time…how have you guys managed (or are planning) to avoid the worst rain? And what are your thoughts on the rising dengue fever cases? Thanks for your insights! :)
watching tv is boring but watching you is entertaining 😊😊😊
This comment makes me so so so happy! Thank you!
@@DivertLiving welcome
Here in Australia, jackfruit and durian are rare too but the fruit in SE Asia is so good😋
Aww so so good!
Marc come to cabramatta
@@kadu3416 i actually live near Cabramatta man lol ...always plenty of good food there👍
The story about those 3 buildings was insane, never heard of it. I was shook.
That is crazy right!?
Van Nguyen: I heard similar stories about other vacant buildings from the locals. But I know that the people of all of South East Asia (not unique to Vietnam) are very superstitious and would believe anything they hear: perfect target for unscrupulous politicians and scammers.
When I told them that the story is hard to swallow, they'll counter with "if it weren't true, how come people tell it?"
both of you guys are adorable next time my asian tour will be in Vietnam thanks for the info and tips...
Thank you so much!
We do have durian and jackfruit in US. Come to Houston, TX and enjoy them!
Dang! So cool! I guess i should!
Wow. Total respect.
omg the frogs that were still moving were so sad and the fish jumping with no water :( this really makes me second guess if I want to go
OMG! I love Banh Mi so much 😍😘
So so do i!
I just found your channel I love it I went to Vietnam a couple years ago I was lucky enough to have a friend I met in America that was my tour guide I got to see the community living by the Mekong river and also the city wish I had more
Oh, where is that machine at 15:00 Amazing
Aww its al the temple of 10,000 Buddha
Van Nguyen chùa vạn phật đó bạn.
Thank you for introducing your country to international friends, wish you two a successful trip. Two of you went to District 8, you should visit BINH DIEN market once, I believe you will be surprised. Of course!
Aww ok! Next trip we will make sure to visit there! Thank you!
Divert Living I forgot to tell you, so go at 12pm. because this is BINH DIEN farmers market
Heading to HCM in a few weeks, whats the address of that coffee shop? that looked amazing.
Yes we have jackfruit some people call it breadfruit but if you go to Guam which is a US territory and I believe you can find it on Hawaii to
Thats great! I never knew that
@@DivertLiving yep they're really great if you slice them up into like chips and deep fry them they're really good that way then I make a coconut and vanilla sauce to dip them in.
@@DivertLiving I've even bought them in Alaska that's where I'm originally from and a lot of Pacific Islanders live in Alaska so that's probably why they import them.
You can buy jakfruit and durian in San Antonio.
So cool!
If you have opportunity you should come MeKong Delta in South VN. It's beauty place and have a lot of interesting food and event.
Aww we did:) We loved it
What was your favorite district? Which had the most to offer?
Yes you can find jackfruit and durian in the US jimmy you’ll have to go to the Asian market mate
ahhhh ok! I guess i havent been to one in the US hahah. I think 1 is the best for walking. If you are riding we really liked 3
Oof i live in district 3 and not even know about this coffee shop’s existence
Well the more you know they say
Tks for the lovely vid!
Aww so happy we could help!
New subscriber here. Love your series so far! Actually, traditional breakfast in Vietnam phở or western style like fried eggs, some type of meat and baguette. 😁
I loved the fortune telling machine
So did i!
We do have jack fruits and durian in the US. You need to go to the local Asian market for those.
You guys gave one piece of advice that I wish I heard before visiting Vietnam and that was to take it easy on the coffee lol. I got sick from drinking too much coffee and being dehydrated.
Great videos! I really like your sensitivity to the local culture. It's Viet-Nam-Mese.... when you said it too fast. it became...Viet-MA- Nese....:)
Facebook in Vietnam is toxic, you know?
a good video
Thank you so much!
There are Jack fruits in Florida and Durians in Hawaii.
Wow! I didnt know that!
Watching from Alaska 👋👋👍👍👍😍😍😍
I was born in 1969 we had always heard he did it to protest the Vietnam War (The Burning Monk)
Nope. He protested the south government, which was a catholic family. They wanted to destroy other religions.
It was the Catholic regime trying to oppress the Buddhists.
Watched it on TV...
No one can sit still when they on fire only if the monk already death
@@hungmai2350 This monk did. There are footage so google it.
12:29 That is Thuận Kiều Plaza, and urban horror stories. And it's not real..
Save me a coffee guys and a (lady) ga ga roll
I’ll pass on the live frog though haha
Jimmy the jack and durian a sorta alike...not...lol.... did you try the durian?
Awesome vlog again
