RM is a true leader. He is a major reason that BTS is so successful. He handles inter-group problems as well as problems between the group and the rest of the company. He is fluent in Japanese and English and is learning other languages, so he handles a lot of their interviews, especially those in English. The other members are working continually to help him out where possible. This is not to ignore Bang Shi Hyuk and other extremely competent people around them. All sides have lucked out in those they work with.

RM has 148 IQ and his heart and mind is always aware of all the member's mindsets, as well as keeping the larger picture of what's going on around them in mind. All of the band holds RM in great respect. His leadership has helped to keep the band grounded and moving in the right direction. All kPopbands have a leader. I believe that this helps to keep the band cohesive.

I will also like to point out when Jim found out that he was the leader he said that it didn't look like it because they all worked good together, that speaks to Namjoon sense being the leader doesn't mean you get to be the main for everything, this reminds me of a quote he said, *"being a leader doesn't mean to put yourself first, but to put yourself last"*

  • @bembolbug

Whenever the discussion of RM as the leader is mentioned, this story from an ex-trainee (Brightoon)always come to mind: RM gathered all the BigHit Trainees and said “We don’t know who’s gonna make it till the end. You might become BTS and I might not. Nevertheless, instead of fights and rivalry during our trainee days, let’s compete in good faith. Let’s practice and help each other when we need each other.”
I sincerely believe that this early intervention really set the tone that made the close relationship among the boys possible in spite of the highly competitive and pressuring atmosphere and nature of the idol training system that more often than not result to a lot of in-fighting and disdain among members.
It shows how they got to have a good foundation of trust and camaraderie from the start. And i think this was the key on how none of the member’s egos or issues of jealousy got in the way of their success. He is such a great leader in setting this tone and environment for the group. That is truly one remarkable guy 👏👏👏

There are a lot of reasons to dislike YG, and not just because of how he treats his own groups. There is a long history, ongoing, with BTS as well. Namjoon, as the leader, has to be the buffer between the company and the members, in both directions. He keeps the group focused when it is needed. They highly respect him as their leader and consider him the best in the business.

    So, four things:
    - Correction: They've ALWAYS contributed to their own music right from the start.
    - I'm glad you've watched the Hardships 2013-2021 video because to me this one is a very sugar coated version focusing only on their accomplishments.
    - I don't like how they describe Jimin as "so naturally gifted", "someone who can stand out" and "a capstone". I think it shows a lot of bias and downplays the importance of the other members in comparison. They're all important in their own right and they all have something to bring to the group as a whole.
    - Somewhat unrelated... With some of their songs and mvs an explanation video is an absolute must. Among them is definitely our queen song Spring Day (the one that's been charting for more than 4 years). But don't worry - ARMY will definitely let you know along the way.
    😄👍

My problem with the way he introduced Jimin is that Jimin has repeatedly told us what a struggle it was and how he almost didn't make it. He almost got dropped 8 times according to him. OP presented it like Jimin just sailed through training like it was nothing and I feel like that seriously undermines his tireless work and effort (which all the members agree was some of the most intense at the beginning). The man worked his ass off to get where he is.

Actually that's not my only problem with this video. This is what I commented directly to Asian Theory:
Ok, you asked for some feedback so here goes:
      - The point of the video is to introduce NEW people to BTS. So claiming that "they've been living under a rock" if they don't know BTS might not exactly be the way to go. I've seen reactors who took offence to it. Not the best start.
      - It's quite sugar coated to focus only on their accomplishments when in fact their hardships have played a big role in shaping the BTS we love. It's ok not to dwell on them but at least mention that they had to fight to get to the top.
      - Calling Jimin "a powerhouse", "a cap stone" and "someone so naturally talented he can stand out" sounds really biased and thus downplays the talent of all the others. Especially since he was almost cut several times. Don't get me wrong though, I love Jimin too but singling him out like that is not ok in this context.
      - TMBMIL may have been the first album where they ALL participated in the music creation but at least some of them were very much involved right from the start. You make it sound like that started with TMBMIL.
To be honest I don't recommend your otherwise good video to anyone for these exact reasons.
I DO however love the little bursts of humor you sneaked in there, like the intro to American Hustle Life and the Boy With Love hair colors. 😂👍

The Leader is actually an official position in almost every Kpop group. It’s more like a role of team captain than the “most popular” or “most talented” like how we think of a group’s lead singer or front man in the west. A Kpop leader is quite literally in charge of leading. They are in charge of team work, morale, making sure everyone gets a chance to shine, speaking on behalf of the group to the public as well as to the label, making sure everyone else is taking care of thier own responsibilities, and making any snap final decisions or being a tie breaker and final shot caller in disputes.
Of course everyone is going to lead a bit differently and it will depend on each group’s dynamics what all the leader actually does but that’s kind of the basics.
What’s unique in RM is that in terms of age, he’s actually in the dead middle of the group. Korea’s entire culture revolves around age and respecting elders so 9 times out of 10 a Kpop group’s leader is the eldest. In Korean culture it’s natural for the eldest to take a leadership role and it’s easier for the group because the eldest is automatically has the respect of every other member. But RM joined the group first and was kind of the member the rest got founded on, plus, from a very early age, has a ton of natural leadership. He’s just very naturally a big picture guy, a great mediator, and very humble so wants everyone to shine. He became BTS’s beloved leader this way and is very respected by all members and beloved by fans although we still insist there truly is no “main” member.
Suga once said (when praising RM when they were advising a junior group) that a group’s leader gets way more responsibility but no benefits

Most Kpop groups have a leader. As the leader of BTS, RM is their spokesperson in some ways & mediates between the group & company as well as all the members. I've always liked the fact that they've given actual group titles to the members in groups like BTS. It helps each member feel like they are needed and are contributing something to the group. A really great thing about appointing a leader to a group is that the matter is decided. In the past (specifically in US rock groups), there have been power struggles between the members to the point the group tends to fall apart and disband to do their own thing and be their own leader.

So, their earlier music prior to I Need U was still very much 'their' music with messages that came genuinely from their hearts, but it was also driven heavily by the three members of the rapline who were pretty much the only writers/producers in the group at that time.
But I agree that the *image* they portrayed with the hard core hip hop bad boy vibe was driven by the company. It was very much not who several of them really were. Jimin has straight out said that that time was difficult for him because he was trying so hard to be something he wasn't. He's much, much happier now.
The Most Beautiful Moment In Life albums were special in that, as he said in the video, *all seven* members took part in making the music. So it was the first real involvement from the vocal line. And in terms of image I think they were more comfortable over all just being themselves.
That being said, while I'm sure some of these shifts and sound and look were partially driven by marketing, it is worth pointing out that their shift in sounds over the years is also just the natural progression of writing music that is genuinely and honestly from them. As they grew up, their music changed and grew up with them.
RM has also stated many times that he does not like being boxed in to any one particular genre, and so I think over the course of their musical career they have actively sought to make music that is sonically different from things they've done before.

BTS is an amazing group, please let us know what type of music you like so we can point you in the right direction. Everyone have different taste in music and you can enjoy it more when it’s the type of music you like to listen too. Personally, BTS is the ONLY Kpop group that I’ve heard and love all their songs. I tried listening to other groups and would like 1 song here and there but there is just something about BTS music that makes me appreciate them as an artist. I will forever Stan these 7 members. What I love the most is that their albums are very neatly put together and tell a story. Listening to their albums in order, while paying attention to the lyrics you can see the growth, the change in mindset, and can, in a way, follow this story step by step. The moment they started including solo and unit songs in their albums was a huge step as well - it allowed individual members to show of their own unique style and made their music even more diverse.

Many here commented on RM’s role as the group leader, being their spokesperson etc, but he is essentially their artistic BRAIN. Together with Bang PD, and Suga, he sets the conceptual direction for their projects, and even works with the vocalists on their solo songs. He is foremost a thinker, poet and songwriter at heart. Even if you’re not a hiphop fan, you would be impressed by his solo Mixtapes (Rap Monster; Mono - a gorgeous EP made up of soulful and mellow tracks). The fact that he is a keen reader of philosophy and psychology shows in their Map of the Soul album (based on C Jung’s concepts of the self). Their 2020 global project BTS Connect (with avant--garde artists around the world) showed their motivation as artists, not just idols, and in that RM definitely leads! Anyway, he also absolutely understands that their impact as a group is bigger than what he could ever have achieved alone as a rapper or producer. And he is only 26. Many think he has the potential to be a political leader or diplomat one day😉 but I’m rather thinking he might eventually write a memoir because of his love of books, art and literature). BTW, They’re already appointed Presidential Special Envoys for Future Generations and Culture.)

Jin was really a revelation. Imagine with zero music and dance talent he was able to pull it though...that's innate talent I guess that was just waiting to be uncovered and developed. RM indeed is a true and great leader. Without his leadership and patience, they may not have come this far. J-hope staying with the group and trusting the group is very touching. I remember a video I saw, that the reason why J-hope didn't leave was because he couldn't stand watching JK crying coz JK doesn't want him to leave. That explains what JK means when he says that he feels sad when he see's his hyungs sad and in pain and that he doesn't want to add more to it. That's why even if he misses his mom he would just cry it out secretly but sometimes get caught. I love the foundation of these boys and their bond is just like family. As what Suga said...the boys are the second closest ones he had next to his family. I love also the idea that Bang PD made them lived in one house coz it strengthens their relationship. It can be seen that they really care for each other having lived for almost a decade now.

what this intro leaves out is that RM, the leader of BTS, was a VERY prolific underground rapper, very well known in that scene and even with only 15 feared as a battle rapper...
he wrote poems from a very early age that he than turned into rap lyrics in his teens. he's responsible for 90% of the BTS lyrics aside from the parts of the other rappers which they write themselves of course.
He's the musical spine of this group.
I highly recommend checking out the melancholic lyrical masterpiece that is his solo mixtape "Mono".
one of my favorite tracks from bts overall is a track from his mixtape named "Uhgood", but the mixtape should be listened to as a whole

In their earlier albums they actually had a good amount of freedom what I think is that they were just trying to find themselves and gain experience during those era's. Don't get me wrong though those albums are bangers, there's so much societal commentary on those albums, just wonderful work.

RM is the leader as he was the first member (he's actually in the middle when it comes to age) and he's such an amazing leader. Unlike in western bands where the leader is the focus, here the leader has the delicate job of mediating between the label and the group, and between the members as well. Kim Namjoon is an amazing leader. Can't wait to see you react to BTS music from the very first song and going forward. I'm sure you'll be amazed by the variety of styles and by their lyrics

You know quite a bit about the boys now, so except for a deeper introduction into the boys themselves (their backgrounds, their roles in the group, their musical contributions,..) i would suggest a song reaction!
    - introduction to the 7 members (updated version of Ida S)
    - Room Live: bts has done so so many different genres, so this will be a very little taste of them!
    - Spring day + explaination (Italian Army)
a little comment/warning; kpop fandoms can get pretty agressive, so don't take too much to heart if you see negative remarks.
You seem like a very genuine person with very sincere reaction. you can always be honest about your opinion on bts' music!
    Stay safe and happy :))
also, YG is not just a greedy man with his music groups, he is actual troubles. That man is involved in many drugs/sex traffic/.. scandals (just look up his name). That whole company management is a nightmare. Wish nothing but luck to the YG groups.

Yeah. I will actually say they the 3 rappers had A LOT MORE freedom in the beginning sense they were the first members that produced and wrote there own music, that helped them to write about there life's and there personal struggles and achievements. ¡This words will forever be in my head!
" *I didnt expect anything from them, all I wanted was for them to write and tell there own stories trough their music, and that's how it came to be* "-CEO the legend Bang PD.
I have so much respect for that men.
Then when all the members participated all of them desided to touch on one specific message for each song, and for their solo work, gived them the freedom to express there style. Your journey is so unique. I am always exited for new videos you do. Stay blessed

When I became part of the ARMY fandom in 2017 I had first heard of them when they performed their song DNA at the AMAs and after listening to that song a few times I had went and began listening to their songs from their debut days to now and that’s where I started to learn more about the Kpop community and BTS in general. Listening to BTS actually helped me get through some hard times and through their music it has taught me to love myself for who I am. Kpop groups assign each member a role. The leader, the main dancer, the main vocalist, the main rapper, the visual. But in BTS those roles have bled together as they all can do everything but RM has always maintained his role as leader.
The cool thing about this journey is Im not sure we have withnessed them intentionally changing thrir styles but more we've watched them grow up. They have always been willing to embrace and accept change. And their talent has inly grown!

You will connect with many potential listeners if you're "up-front" and admit your insecurities. Confessing vulnerabilities wins over folks because the same issues have beset many new fans. BTS's urging to address depression and respect for yourself connected with new fans, even folks like me - a 68-year-old American ARMY - because BTS addresses concerns that all generations experience. And BTS respects their fans.

And don't feel bad if you end up don't feel like you would enjoy it. About the transition from ' bad boy image ' to something simple.
BTS always had the freedom and liberty to work and make their own music. Infact it was Bighit and Bang PD only who encouraged them to do so.
Their ' bad boy image ' was just part of the trilogy they were following since the beginning their career which was School Trilogy ( 2013-2014 ) that's why you see them talking about school , dream and teenage.
The 2015 album is about youthful love that's why you see the image being different than 2014 era. Infact for a lot of fans the school trilogy is their fav era.
Album from 2015 is youth trilogy which had a bit simple face but both tell stories from the members.

In an industry that often pits group members against each other and letting 1 shine above all the others, BTS also stands out as different. They encourage and push each other to be better, they are each others biggest fans. When a member releases solo music all the other members praise it and push everyone to listen to it. They constantly bring each other up. Because so much of there lives are documented there have been amazingly touching moments that show just how much they need each other. There families are even close and have been seen hanging out together even when BTS isnt involved and members have even attended the weddings of a members brother or sister. The boys themselves also have great respect for each others family and even consider it a basically large family unit. I really honestly would love to see you just really react to the members themselves, without narration telling you who they are, but just you seeing them for themselves. The only documentary that i know of that is fanmade that is the boys talking themselves is the Rise of Bangtan, it is the most in-depth story on them and literally is still going and only just entered the Wings Era after 13 videos. If anything to just react to the first video will teach you so much.

It’s unfortunate that a lot of people don’t like them (BTS), because the way they look, but if they would search their life story from earlier years, their struggles, their sacrifices , their hardships then they would change their views about them , they’re humble, respectful, humanitarian, and down to hearth people. Even though their songs are in Korean the lyrics are life lesson that they are sharing with the kids listening to them and they encourage all of them for the better and to find and define themselves. I wish people would be able to overcome their looks and find the good that these kids(now grown men)are, and of course in addition to that their looks.

In my opinion, he really worked hard to improve his singing ability even though he doesn't have any experience. Just like how ballerinas are trained to dance Jin also trained hard to be a singer.
