    Pro-tip, when you need to move the elevator alone, run a couple heavier blocks of wood too the top and stop it there. It will counterbalance it a little, makes it a little lighter on the lift. Not too many though or it might be tough to restart it.

    The conveyor was built for handling grains, silage, manure, cob corn, etc. It is too narrow to handle small bales. Just an FYI from an old farmer. Great video! BTW Roth still makes them. A lot cheaper than firewood conveyors. Great repurpose of retired equipment.

    Money, money, money! We got our first money of our little woodyard! I told it is a greed wood, but he want to buy it anyways. So. Chris, You inspirated me on this, then soon I got a friend of mine, who I have known for 35 or so years. We are just starting. Did I do the right thing to sell green wood? I told it was green. Wow! I can´t even give words, how much You inspire me! Go Chris. btw nice job!

      You can sell green wood as long as they know it and know that it is not ready to burn yet. If you sell it to some one who NEEDS to burn it now you might just loose them as a customer...forever.

    2:20 For me lifting big logs works better when working with my knees instead of my back. My strongest muscles are in my legs and they are made for carrying my whole body. That’s what I figured out to be better. I had several times a Lumbago - which slows me down for weeks. It happened when I was lifting out of the back instead of out of my legs with upright back.

You could hook up a couple of electric motors, even 12 volt starters couple sprockets and chains and other laying inside the barn someplace and you could drive that around. Just put forward and reverse switches by the troth.

    Give the 56V ego 18" a try, it's a lot more heavy duty than the rest of the electric saws. Have cut at least 40 cord with mine, but I also cycle between 4 batteries (have other tools). I'll usually give the battery a "break" once it's at 1/5 bars and take some of the rounds I've cut to the atv trailer, it'll recover to 3/5 typically if I've been full throttle constant use. Primarily cutting maple and poplar, if I'm bucking a couple trees worth of 12-18" rounds back to back it'll run a little hot but it's faster than my beater ms170 and not having to wear hearing protection is a nice perk. Especially for felling sketchy stuff so you can hear what the trees doing. It's become my primary saw just because of the safety aspects (chain stops instantly when you let off throttle, has an LED light for when you're being dumb and cutting past dusk), oil consumption is less than half of the stihl so I do find myself sharpening a little more.

    • @InTheWoodyard
      @InTheWoodyard  5 місяців тому

      Sounds good. BUT...Try a 70, 80 or 90cc gas saw some time and you will see the light. It is like a VW bug from 1979 compared to a New Ferrari.

    • @Thesaltyseafish
      @Thesaltyseafish 5 місяців тому

      No doubt, no replacement for displacement if you're cutting a serious amount of wood. Mostly 12-18" hardwood up this way and I'm holding off for a 500i, 455 rancher + ms170 ain't cutting it. @@InTheWoodyard

      @Thesaltyseafish 5 місяців тому +1

      My only complaint is that it's built super cheap aside from the bar, but for 249 cad I'm impressed and it's a nice "one handed" saw. Took about 20 tanks to break it in but it's nice to hold wide open all day. Oil consumptions high which is a nice trade off vs sharpening more often. @@denverbasshead

    When splitting and cutting, there is so much waste. Overall it is worth it, but I wish there was a way to process the waste into logs or fire starters. When I burn my piles, the fire burns for hours and puts of tons of heat. There is just no easy to deal with that waste. It really looked good after you got it cleaned up. I bet, when you fill up a bin, it gives you a good feeling. I know it does when I fill up a storage area. Money in the bank gathering interest.

    I see you run without a 4-way wedge often and run a single piece of wood through 2, 3, or 4 times. Is that preference, or do you dislike a 4-way wdge?

    • @InTheWoodyard
      @InTheWoodyard  5 місяців тому +1

      We use the 4 way a lot on good wood...nasty crotchy knotty tree service wood can be made to look good with a single wedge. I have hundreds of videos on my channel with the 4 way on.

    • @jerodtier3269
      @jerodtier3269 5 місяців тому

      @InTheWoodyard , thanks. That makes sense. I thought I'd seen the 4 way, but the last several, I've only seen the 2 way being used. Keep up the good work. Love watching your content and hearing your stories and tips.
