  • Probably two days after this video I put my Thruxton R up for sale after a great year and a half of loving the Thruxton, though I still didn't know what the hell I what talking about, the facts still hold true that the Speed Triple is more comfortable, handles better, is much faster, stops better....and so on. At the time I only had an old project bike so to ride regularly, one bike, 10 times out of ten it's the Speed Triple. Now the RS is even better.

I just pulled the trigger on a 2017 Speed Triple S and yes, they definitely are trying to get rid of them. It's parked next to my Bonneville. Ying/Yang.

Dr. Mercurio Arboria I ended up with a ‘16 standard Thruxton 1200 (dealer gave it to me at cost $5700) and still have the S3s.
The arrival of the Rocket 3 has changed things even more, and you have a speed triple 1160 coming! I love the Speed Triple S, way more comfortable and so much better performance than the 1200. But ever week I take the 1200 out for that smooth twin change.

They both have the Brembo soft brake defect/issue. How is the front brake on the Triple holding up? Was going to shed my Triple for a Thruxton R due to this frustrating and unfixable issue until I saw that they sadly share the same system that forums reveal to share the same symptoms.

Here’s the thing, and I’m crafting a little Thrux R vs RS this week as I just bought a leftover R, the RS has new and improved beefier Brembos, but the R has a big discount ($11,999). That said, same system, Thrux had recalls, bleeding issues, I personally never had the problem but many did. Just saw a ‘15 S3 and yes, that was just before all the tech changes like my ‘17s with 5 modes etc so maybe that was the difference. I’ve been lucky but if you’re not worried about the discount on the 18/19 Thrux, then the RS has improved Brembos makes sense in this context.

Would you agree that the target audience for a Thruxton and a Speed triple are different? Not sure comparing the two is fair. They each have their own pro's and cons. Cant wait till I can get a Thruxton R. Thanks for the video, nice side by side look at the two.

I totally agree. I myself transitioned, but you know sometimes we go back to something we had with a better understanding. I definitely have a better understanding of how smooth that twin is now.
Although if you walk into the Triumph room, John P. might ask price range, performance needs or usage, then how important are looks. I had evolved to not seek the looks but the other factors in something. Long story short, it was my own personal comparison. Great point.

@Johnny Jackass you're helping me define me..I now have the Speed Triple S, Storm, Street, and Thruxton 900. Which one to ride is always a tough decision. I love what Triumph did and is doing. Still love the modern classics, sometimes I just need to get there quicker ;)
