    Hi, so I live in an apartment so I cannot house any tortoise outside but I’m wondering if them living outside is mandatory or not?

    • @IncredibleInvertsOtherAnimals
      @IncredibleInvertsOtherAnimals  5 місяців тому

      Hey its not mandatory just recommended for most species if you can, but you can provide what they need indoors

    My marginated is 6 and still got juvenile colours. I’m in the U.K. I only put outside when nice is he ok full time even U.K. lol when cool at night and wet. I am having a shed made for him. When should he start hibernation. I keep reading different info

      During the summer months they are fine outside all the time but I'd still give access to an indoor area with heat and uv lighting so the tortoise can have choice. The British cheonia group and Norfolk tortoise group both have some great hibernation information I would also consult a reptile vet as its always good to get a health check before hibernation

      My reptiles, the slightest difference on them or their behaviour I’m
      There. He’s very health little man. I’m having a shed made for him with insulation in and a ceramic heat bulb in. When they go into hibernation does he not need the heat and what min temp can he get to. I have read so much conflicting information that’s why I’m asking as it’s still a worry of mine. I know he shouldn’t go into hibernation with food in his tummy . How long without food would you think? Xx

    Very informative thank you! How is this tortoise for a first time tortoise owner?

    • @IncredibleInvertsOtherAnimals
      @IncredibleInvertsOtherAnimals  3 роки тому +3

      They can be great as with any animal do lots of research to get heating, lighting and diet right. Diet is a big thing for all tortoises which is often got wrong so for a species like this no fruit should be given the bulk of the diet is a large mix of edible weeds with good supplements. In the UK you do need paperwork to legally keep this species.

      @@IncredibleInvertsOtherAnimalsis crunchy lettuce okay for them? I’m from Northern Ireland UK and recently got one x

    • @IncredibleInvertsOtherAnimals
      @IncredibleInvertsOtherAnimals  3 місяці тому

      @alliejayzaj8587 with lettuce never feed iceberg, darker leaf varieties are better than others but still mainly water, so OK as an occasional treat or on hot days or mix a bit in with over feed plants

    Hi i have had a marginated tortoise for a year now and he is around 1 and a half years old, and i havnt hibernated him yet and i dont really know how to hibernate them using the fridge method. So i was wondering if you could do a how to video as it is coming up to winter soon, thanks for reading this!

      Thanks for watching. That's a great idea I shall see if I can. There are some great Tortoise groups out that too on Facebook, Suffolk Tortoise Keepers (which a fellow admin done a hibernation methods video for last year), Norfolk Tortoise Group. Also check out the British Chelonia Group website and the Tortoise Protection Group website both have great information on them.

    Why is plantain classed as a weed? I always assumed it was a fruit. Or is this something completely different.

    • @IncredibleInvertsOtherAnimals
      @IncredibleInvertsOtherAnimals  4 роки тому +1

      Ahhh maybe should have said in the video, Plantain in the UK is a garden weed we get broadleaf and Ribwort when I was a child I used to called Tommy gun plant. The Banana like fruit is also called Plantain but would be dangerous to feed to Tortoises.
