Photography in being in the right place at the right time, which is 50/50 skill and luck. But getting a worthy image is 99% skill. I saw the giraffe. I knew where the sun was. I decided that the two might work together to make a shot. Then the car made dust, which here was the luck part. Even though I didn't know it.

When you are in Botswana and Namibia, it feels like you are staring in the movie "The Gods Must Be Crazy," but just slightly more competent and just as entertaining.

Back in the mid 70’s (aged about 5yrs) I was visiting Chester Zoo, I was looking at the elephants, leaning on the railings; I asked my mum why that elephant had 2 trunks…she didn’t reply so I asked again, several times……I never got an answer.
Now you’ve managed to film a 2 trunked elephant in the wild……..😂

Did you brave the beasties to go for that shower? That is the answer we are all waiting for. Take care, stay safe mate.

My father was a part of the project building the airport in Maun in the early 80's. There was nothing there. Now its a proper city. One of my favourite areas in the entire Africa, Okavango and Chobe. The drive through Chobe up to Kasane is fabulous!!!

Hitched hiked from Francistown to Maun in 1988 in the back of a truck. Hit thunderstorms on the way, arrived in Maun by darkness. Didn't realise I looked like a snowman until I got into artificial light which was thanks to the white gravel road dust kicked up by the truck sticking to my drenched skin after the thunderstorm.
Having a camera between you & the subject can sometimes feel like taking away from that first hand experience.

Not sure exactly when you were there. We were there in April and the whole of Botswana was incredibly dry. Apparently the worst drought they have had in 40 years! Maybe why the bird life was not the norm. I was hoping you would have shown a bit of the drive into camp site. A bit of drive

In South Africa, there is what we call entitlement. If someone is more privileged than yourself, they must have stolen their wealth from somebody else. So we steal it back rather to work for you own stuff. And Botswana still has the death penalty .

That craftsman is misleading you about being a Motswana from Botswana.. that fabric is generally available and now Chinese now print these fabrics, very few places have the authentic ones. He's a Zimbo you can hear from his accent a Mostwana would never say WAX (Waax) but Wex as Americans. You've just been played by Zimbos that are all over the street trading from South Africa all the way to Zambia
