I have very sad news for you stop-motion lovers, our legend Will Vinton just died recently. I don't know the cause nor when, but he is no longer with us. May we have his beautiful works of art to remember him by, and may his legacy rest in our memories forever.
Aww God Bless him Rip at least others are continuing on with Stop motion animation.
I had to come back here after the tragic news of Will’s death. He really was a creative and visionary artist
R.I.P. Vinton, I didn’t know he died. :(
It's so crazy to see how other people appreciate Vinton's work. My grandma actually worked for him. She has tapes with almost all of the shorts, commercials, etc. She said she was 10 feet from MJ but didn't bother to approach him because she wasn't obcessed with him.
RIP Mr. Vinton your work will never be forgotten
That "from Laika" make me have a WTF! moment
El Ochentero to Laika. Not from.
I know, that twist knocked me for a loop when I first heard that.
Fun Fact: Will Vinton Studios and Blue Sky Studios both worked on the M&M Characters.
Moonwalker's creation has always been a fascinating story - there was a lot of spirited collaboration from the artists involved, and lots of legendary names of filmmaking, SFX and animation worked on the various segments. The project was pretty ahead of its time, and wouldn't be out of place in today's media landscape.
You forgot to mention that the California Raisins also appeared in the 2012 animated movie "Food Figh-
*Everybody points their guns at me*
...never mind.
Jeez dude, I hope they didn't kill you for mentioning Food Figh...
--
Could someone pull that fork out of my butt?
Funny.
Who are you?
"An Angel"
What's your name?
*JOHN CENA*
(I had to)
Noice
So basically this guy is the "Don Bluth"
of claymation itself. I love it!
BANNANAMATION
PIKACHUMATION
ANIMATIONMATION

I hate how no one watches this when its so good
OMG! Will Vinton Studios became Laika? How did I not know about this. I have "Mark Twain" and "Coraline" sitting next to each other on my shelf, and I'm only now finding out about this.
I used to think Laika was inspired by Will Vinton.
FilmmakerJ but will do sent own it so he didn't make it
Me, too, but now I did.
Rest in Peace, Will Vinton. :(
I dropped my phone at the end when he said it was LAIKA! I knew that story sounded familiar!
I was totally caught off guard too XD love your profile pic btw
RIP Will Vinton .... Mark Twain was always my favourite ....
A documentary about the lawsuit between Phil Knight and Will Vinton called ClayDream just came out.
Holy crap chilly tee directed kubo
Canadian lightbulbs he likes be a good animator rather a rapper for the nutshack theme song.
and bumblebee
I Found The Budget For Mark Twain, It's Budget Was 1.5 Million Dollars
So, it was a flop
OOOF Talk About a bomb but hey at least it did better than a troll in Central Park
@Park Lee Studios Hahaha yeah what I said was a understatement
Yeah that's what pisses me off about the critics. They bashed that movie just because they compared it to the "original" while saying it's too dark. That is a stupid move because The Wizard of Oz is a book series first, then a movie. In fact , 15:38 best describes my feelings towards them.
That’s why I don’t trust critics, they’re nothing but a bunch of lowlife losers.
May he rest in peace. I know this wasn't a tribute or anything, but that was a hell of a history on the man. Fantastic job with it.
Comic which uses 2d imagery adapts a movie and calls it "Moonwalker *3D* ".....
These people are geniuses!!!
Holy shit, Michael's packing!!!!!!
R.I.P Will Vinton
Rip will vinton
1947-2018
28:17-29:01 It's amazing how Travis Knight somehow went from a failed rapper/mop boy with no animation experience to an acclaimed film director decades later.
R.I.P Will vinton 1947 - 2018
Return To OZ was one of my favorite movies! I also enjoy the OZ books! And own most of them L Frank Baum is AMAZING!!!
This deserves a lot more views. Liked and Subscribed.
When I was a little kid, like three or four, there was a phase where I had Moonwalker playing on the VCR all the time. I LOVED that movie. It would be fun to go back and have another watch. Thanks for the feature, man. It was a good one.
Will Vinton. The only man that has the power to create something that actually terrifies me. I don't fear anything except him.
what a legend. i loved his work on the speed demon music video as a kid
I don't care what anyone else says, Michael will always be the OG of pop and awesome music videos. ^_^
22:01 Dont ask, Michael Jackson in charge
Kieran Stark Wait why? The early 21st Century Nick was good. Their 20th Century Shows weren't good except for Hey Arnold though.
I like 20th better, so "not everyone"... you explained what you were talking about in this reply (I didn't even understand the first reply as it was vague to me but I have never gotten into Michael Jackson that much or video games or claymations of him, although, some of his songs were really beautiful. I guess you are yelling? because of the opinion of another youtube patron that likes to express their self in comments. truthfully, and no offence, but saying "You're not letting me have my own opinions!!!!!!!!!!! Oh My God!!!!!!!!" reminds me of an exercise in "Anger Management" Psychologists, overall agree that saying "You are not letting me" or when you are mad at someone saying "You "made" me feel this way" is self defeating. They warn us that nobody "makes YOU" and a better way to carry on a conversation and express what you are feeling is to merely say "that made ME feel." The way the 20th century is seemingly going to the wayside through advertising POs me to the max too. But I have to exercise my "equanimity." Equanimity is a word I learned while googling some feelings of my own LOL. Turns out it is the most honored and difficult seven-fold accomplishment in Buddhism (most people think Buddhism is a religion but it really is more than that ~more a way of life and for very large crowded populations with problems, viola, youtube, facebook, and now all the internet has become ad oriented and they all sem to have "very large crowded populations with problems" You seem like a great person. Don't let the evolution of mankind's poor choices effect you in a negative way to make you filled with anger." ahhh I do notice a lot of folk in replies are angry. We all need to agree to disagree and enjoy our lives instead of wasting precious time bickering in comments/replies on youtube. The practice of being "equanimous" or having "equanimity" as we witness life, war, love, death all around us will help us all be able to "live and let live" not "live and let die" (never did like Wings lol ;) ~Peace out Kieran Stark
Nice usage of Pikachu-mation, Banana-mation and Animation-mation. You really captured the magic of the mediums that have been used in some of the greatest films of all time.
Another thing to note about Vinton is how he tried to make a stage musical about The Frog Prince, based on a Claymation project that his old company came up with years ago. However, the funding page (which I believe was on Kickstarter) did not meet the goal required and seems to have been scrapped.
+Sam Flemming Remember it again, Sam...Kickstarter started in 2009.
Return to Oz is one of my favorite movies of all time.
the adventures of mark twain is one of the best things i have ever seen in my life. down to the score. The audio mixing. Perfect voice acting. Truly an adventure
at 5:00 - Tom Sawyer looks like the Fourth Doctor.
+Amelia Doubleyou he does lol wait does that mean tom sawyer IS the fourth doctor ?
Dino Bear omg that is amazing!
Can we expect a feature on LAIKA soon?
Slight problem there they have on,y done three films as of today Coraline, Paranorman, And Boxtrolls
Laika Studios is the company that was formed from Will Vinton Studios when Travis Knight the son of Nike founder Phil Knight took full control of Will Vinton Studios from Will Vinton and then he closed it and then he founded Laika Studios after Will Vinton Studios closed down.
Dude, is he white or bla-
DON'T ASK QUESTIONS, MICHAEL JACKSON IS IN *CHARGE*
21:34 That was so out of nowhere, you can put it in any movie! Literally, any movie!
Come on, it'd be funny.
Holy shit I forgot how much I loved The Adventures of Mark Twain - I need to rewatch it
RIP WIll Vinton 1947-2018.
Ouch, Wil Vinton was kicked out right before stop motion got big again.
WHAT ? Can someone tell me how they turned Will Vinton's Studio into Laika ?
They bought it from him?
Well Travis Knight the son of Nike founder Phil Knight took over full control of the company which Will lost control of his studio to a rapper and son of a father who founded Nike.
my family had the moonwalker tape and the game as a kid. I loved it
Rest in peace Will Venton
When I heard Travis knight was a mop boy I was just sitting there with a clueless look then you said they became Laika I gasped😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
Matt should have gotten 100k subscriptions 6 years ago just for the ending.
I found out a couple years ago that I'm related to Don Knotts.
I'll let that one sink in.
Barney Fife, himself?
Jacob Kindermann Yup.
+JoCoProductions cool!
Don’t ask mj is in it
The plot twist was as compelling as the Thanos Snap.
Sean Ono Lennon was one of the kids in the smooth criminal segment
Another great video man I love your stuff.
Moonwalker movie so awesome everytime I see it and it's really good animation.
The PJs and Gary & Mike are insane shows.
I checked out the adventures of Mark Twain on netflix, and damn am I impressed.
I haven't seen seen a kids movie this *deep* since Atlantis.
I've seen the Adventures of Mark Twain at my local Library!
Richard Canipe Nice. You should loan it.
Anthraxinternational I mean a public library and ever seen or heard of a library card before or a librarian?
Richard Canipe Yes. Are you saying you don't loan stuff from your public library?
Richard Canipe Sorry about that. My message must have been lost in translation. By " loan" I meant "borrow". Those words are practically synonymous in my language.
OK, I literally LOL'd at your dive bombing. "Dont ask! Michael Jackson's in charge!"
People talk about the retrospective Moonwalker as a "vanity project". i don't agree with that assessment AT ALL. Michael was a known Disney/animation fan. I think he enjoyed the idea of exploring those mediums and his own life and work was a great palette for that. And I always thought of Smooth Criminal as Michael Jackson as his idea as a superhero, not really for vanity's sake, again. Or maybe it is, but that doesn't mean it wasn't visionary.
I saw the adventures of mark twain,Black Cauldron and Return to Oz in theaters in the 80s...
It scared me for life....
I was a kid... And didn't understand it completely? It was trippy AF. I love and miss the 80s.
Nothing can ever compare to the imagination of the time!
I screamed a little when I saw that you used a Markiplier clip XD
Where?
WalrusBoy 2:47
Thanks
Disney World should change their name to DIDNEY WORL
The pjs and gary and mike were good shows especially gary and mike the more visualy appealing of the two shows
My favorite of Will Vinton's animation projects is Dinosaurs! A Fun-Filled Trip Back in Time. I saw it on a video tape multiple times in my childhood, and it was second only to The Land Before Time and its sequels in my favorite dinosaur videos. I think I saw some of Will Vinton's work on Sesame Street as well, but this dinosaur project was definitely my favorite. I am also thankful to Will Vinton's studio for giving a start to Craig Bartlett to create Hey Arnold!, one of my sixteen favorite animated television series. Because there were two things I already liked about Will Vinton, I decided I might as well watch The Adventures of Mark Twain. I will accept that movie as a tribute to Mark Twain, but it can get boring at times, and since Dallas McKennon is the only voice actor I legitimately know, I find the voice cast questionable. The same goes for Closed Mondays. I don't recognize the man's voice, and the story can get boring.
Ray Nelson was an animator with Will. He left to form Flying Rhinoceros in 1994. The latter was closed in 2016. He brought me to this video. I made this comment for him. I have some videos made by Ray. I hope he makes some more.
Here after seeing the ClayDream trailer. Great video!
Also, will you talk about Rankin-Bass?
On Animation Lookback: Stop Motion 2.
Actually, Michael named it the Moonwalk
In Loving Memory of Will Vinton. (1947 - 2018)
I think I'll be posting some PIKACHUMATION videos soon. Thanks for the idea

Warner Bros: Makes the Wizard of Oz
Disney: give me back my property
You sound like a young Andy Rooney ("60 Minutes"): "Ya ever NOTICE..." I like this. Good production qualities. I'm watching. :-)
Don't ask why, Michael is in charge
I didn't know Will Vinton did some clay animation in Capitan EO and Michael Jackson's Moonwalker, that's interesting
21:35
22:00 don't ask, Michael's in charge
I actually know Will and his son Jesse
Cool look back at this animation icon. I loved Will Vinton's animation growing up and one year for Christmas I even got a Will Vinton Claymation set. It came with some bars of clay and some tools. It was great. My brother and I had a lot of fun building small figures.
I knew Football Head would appear on here
Been watching a few of these...and had to subscribe...too much fun and so much nostalgia in many of the videos. And heaps of information.
Omg i can't help but laugh at Bob's laugh it's just so funny XD

This is amazing! I love his work.
Speaking of hey arnold i hope he does an animation lookback on nickelodeon
I’d love to see his take on the history of the history of Nickelodeon animation, from the 90’s with rugrats and ren and stimpy to today with shows like the loud house
Did you hear the news that Will Vinton passed away yesterday?
I remember watching speed demon and smooth criminal
The Adventures Of Mark Twain is pretty insane.
