hello sara can you do a comprehensive video on how one can get a job , probably one shifting from Africa to Norway?
for a grocery store to be allowed to be open on a sunday, it cant be larger than 100m2.

In Germany, you shouldn't be almost dying to stay home. If you are sick, you just have to tell your boss and go to the doctor to write you 1 week ill. That's all. Is not as bad as people use to say.

Okay - so I live and work in Oslo. I attended an all-day business meeting at a smaller place about 1 hour's drive from Oslo. When I was about to leave I thanked for the stay and emphasized that I appreciated the relaxed and calm environment. What I didn't know at that time was I ended up insulting the director of the office I visited. He took it personally and later I found out he thought I was insinuating that they were ineffective when I was actually appreciating the atmosphere... So be careful with your praise...

The biggest plus for me, was growing in Norway up as a kid. I do know some kids have problems and get bullied, but that was not the case for me. I would pick that as my top reason, the country-side is very child friendly, playing in the snow was so fun. I still remember my ski jump hill from the roof of our mountain cottage, not so fun being the waterboy, but even so, the childhood memories rank the highest.

Huh, fascinating stuff :) I can tell you live in a different part of the country, and Norway is a bit more hectic in the cities. There are also more Sunday open stores there, though not to the extent of the US. And yes, you can stay at home if you are sick, but in most places, you are expected to have high work ethics and be effective when you are at work (this might differ from work place to work place, I'm sure).

Norway actually looks a lot like my part of Canada... The moose especially. I was sad when I heard about that Reindeer cull. If I remember it sounded like a panic situation.

@@swedishpsychopath8795 I have never seen a small moose here. I'll Google a Silver moose. The Ones I have seen in person here are over 2000 lbs. easily. Even the juveniles without antlers are as large as a mature horse. Norwegians and Swedes seem to be big on fantasies and myths... 🤔
But at least the maple leafs actually built their moose instead of just buying a silver moose from China.

@@stevenjohnson7086 People don't realize the Moose has only been in Canada for 10,000 years about.
During a cold winter with deep snow they suffer badly, as they are forcedcinto more rugged remote terrain. And also many insects that bother them and Caribou like the Blackflies only recently came here from Europe. A bad tick infestation can kill a Moose. They do need to be protected when possible. They are very nice animals as long as you don't cross them... A silver Moose?

It turns out that the traveler only needs to know a few dialogues and you can easily travel around the world! You don't have to

Hello Sara,thanks for sharing your experience with us. I live in Srilanka a tropical country where there is lot of naural beauty. The issue is most of our people do not understand the true value of the nature and they destroy it. Nature is the only reason I live in my country. So this country is no longer for me. I am a doctor here. I am ready to lose everything here and move to a nature-loving country like Norway. Do you think it's worth taking the risk?
Doctors here are in high demand - however - You might not be able to use your doctors degree from Scrilanka here. BUT i do know a lot of nurses, doctors etc. in the heath care system from countries outside of EU so its definitely possible.

The foreigner’s (lack of) understanding of the Norwegian work culture. Insufficient language skills. Education invalid, or insufficient to Norwegian requirements or circumstances. Norwegian employers will focus strongly on your personality. Well functioning team work is a big and important component in Norwegian work forces, unlike the culture in many other countries where it is more socially acceptable for an individual to highlight, promote, and take all, or as much credit as possible for her/him self, which is not unusual in the US. The elbowing ahead has a different dynamic here. You having a personality the employer think can mesh well with existing employers/the rest of the staff/the rest of the organization is hugely important. In other words, harmony amongst colleagues and a good work environment is often seen as key. Having a personality that makes your colleagues like you and see you as competent and sociable might count more than in other countries, depending on the job or position.
The culture of acknowledging the efforts and contributions of your colleagues, and giving recognition to those around you is important. To peacefully team work with people from other socioeconomic, religious, and cultural and backgrounds than yourself is something we are trained at doing from we are small children, more than in than in the states, where societies are more segregated, and where deeper, long time lasting interactions with people different from yourself are less structured by society. In other words, the understanding of tolerance as a value and tool is more widespread here than in the US.
Your references from another culture and country might hence be viewed, interpreted a bit differently, and with greater uncertainty.
If they suspect you are that one person who in one way or the other will disturb, prevent, stall smoothness in the organization, you will fast fall into the “not valid” category, and they might end up choosing the person who’s professional skills are ranked a little bit beneath you, but who’s personal interaction and sociable skills supersedes you. To offer resources to lift that person professionally through courses, guidance, or additional education is what they might prefer.
A general problem with Eastern Europeans is they culturally are not used to work things out on their own. They come from a culture where they expect direct and specific orders from higher up, and do not dear, are not allowed to act on their own. But traditionally western countries are more similar to Norway in that the boss will not necessarily micro-manage how you solve a task, as long as you end up managing solving the task within rules, procedures, deadlines and costumes. Amongst Norwegians too, the majority of new jobs are landed through contacts and acquaintances. A good reputation, often amongst previous and current colleagues, but not only, is invaluable, and Norway has small societies where rumors travel fast.
Bottom line, cultural insensitivity has without doubt ruined job chances for several foreign job seekers, often in the form of coming off too strong. Based on everything from one or two sentences in the application the employer find too bragging and over the top, to presenting themselves in a very little sympathetic and appealing way on a job interview, and being too pushy in their requests for a reply.

I am Norwegian but unfortunately I do not speak the language, only understand a little. I am now almost 57 and I desperately want to move back to Norway, I have lived in the US via the UK for a long, long time. I wonder if someone my age could get a job? I don't have a college degree and I know most Norwegians are highly educated. The simple life is something I have been longing to return to. Europeans in general I feel have simpler lives than Americans. Here people live to work, whereas Europeans work to live. Everything is so fast paced in America and the work/life balance is terrible.

What do describe is simply life on the country side, not life in Norway. It is the same on every country side trough out scandinavia. If you live in a denser populated area you will not visit your neigbours door to door or ask if you've seen a moose recently. I guess you don't have much of a country side in Denmark, but that is more of a lacking context in Denmark. Big countries like France, Germany, England, Spain, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Finland all have a significan contry side where life is like you describe it.
Yea norwegian specialist like to go on nature, but they dont know anything about how to treat than thiks lime or barelios. And how to protect themselves
