Here’s the thing: this is undoubtedly a never-before-seen level of SUPER talent. They’re a super group. Future shit! But there’s also another layer here, in that the production team, the training, & the LIVE PRODUCTION is on some future shit too. There’s NO QUESTION they sang this live, and they were AMAZING. But there’s also some LIVE filtering / mixing & production happening that’s equally impressive. The flange on Harvey’s voice at 2:36 is really obvious. You can hear the dips in the end of each line. Their whole performance is live auto-tuned. THAT DOESN’T MAKE IT LESS IMPRESSIVE!!! It’s just that, without their entire production crew at the soundboard in the background, this performance doesn’t have the same feeling. If they showed up at an open mic night at a bar & plugged an iPhone in with a karaoke version of the track, they would still sound AMAZING, but it would sound different.
Listening to WWY as a letter from their parents to their daughter, it sounded different. I feel that it is also meaningful for them to sing a letter from a parent to a child, as they are in the position of a child. In the behind-the-scenes of the MV, some of the members were seen in tears when they saw the video message from their parents as a surprise. Also, the scene at the beginning of the MV where Chisa calls out in the snowy mountains is a tribute to the film 'Love Letter', so the whole song feels like a love letter to a loved one far away. XG do sing live but this, like many other so called live singing channels is not 100% raw live vocals. Things like pitch, tone, and key correction, autotune, vocal filters, background vocals, studio recordings and live singing are combined and mastered in post production.
These beyond talented ladies put in 5 years of blood, sweat and tears in competition to become XG. They were already on a high level as individual young girls before the competition, but the training they received from Simon and his crew just pushed these ladies into another galaxy. I HAVE SO MUCH RESPECT FOR THEM.
