Code: Breaker does this also. If I remember correctly (since I read this one super waaay back like early 2009-ish), each of them follows their own version of "Code of Hammurabi". It's good to see someone giving Akumetsu the attention it deserves. This along with Freesia and Sanctuary (1990 - 1995) should get modern anime adaptations. Especially Freesia, which I see you don't seem to have covered in a video. If you've never read Freesia, definitely look into it.
I like this one a lot. Despite this not really being a central point until the very last arc, I was invested into Hazama and his girl's relationship and it ended in a very sad way, that still keeps me wondering if that pod was a standalone, or she's practically a 4th now
I'd have massive respect to whatever studio decided to adapt this just for the balls it takes to even take such a project on, with extra kudos if they manage to translate the action (especially the executions) into anime form faithfully
I can easily see the point why this can't be made into an anime and broadcasted on TV. Considering the current state of affairs in Japan, since their current government is not well received at all, it could cause quite a bit of controversy.
@@HydraSpectre1138Netflix maybe but it still will get a big attention enough for it to be controversial and OVAs are not something studios are willing to make much nowadays because it isn't the 80's anymore where you can spend as much on it because they were mostly passion projects.
I read this years ago I think I was still in high school and it still holds up to this day. One day I hope to spread the knowledge of Akumetsu and other older anime content someday. It challenged you to think and a pod light novel to read is Reverend Insanity if you understand the undertones.
It feels really weird being reminded of this because I once stumbled upon it by sheer chance and got quite absorbed by it during the edge teenager phase of my life. It was already completed by then and while I do think it goes a little too weird near the end of it, overall I still really like it.
Wow, I never even thought someone would review this manga. I read Akumetsu waay back when I was in highschool and I am entering my 30s. It was for me, one of the most unforgettable read that I have ever done.
I remembered reading this when it first came out and not really understanding the context around it. I thought politicians acting like scum was the norm, especially when they are far removed from common man. (The police schemes taught me how to avoid them. You know, when the end of the month comes around and the cops want more money, they start writing more tickets. This means entrapment of sorts by catching you making basic driving mistakes that could be interpreted as breaking the law.) The ending though, that ending is messed up to an extent. If I recall correctly, the entire operation basically was a cover for destroying the cloning technology, because of how dangerous and evil it was, and also as a nod to all of those who died due to government screw ups. He saves the girl who fell in love with him, by making one last clone of her, while destroying every hidden base that he operated out of. Japan does start to recover, but the old corruption never went away.
This is one of the first manga I fervently read, I was looking for physical copies and sadly couldn't get any. When I first read this it was around 2007-2008. It had a lot of angry people against it too because the characters looked way too much like the real life politicians they were based/modeled after. I remember certain scans had info pages about the situation of Japan and how certain people made it worse.
Biggest issue is that Mappa would definitely be the type of studio to pick this up, unfortunately it's one of the most inhumane studios so I can't say I'm looking forward to whatever masterpiece they choose to animate
After working for Walmart for over 4 years and having to deal with abuse (just for a resume I'll never make use of) until I finally quits, and even having them control my life even after I quit, ruining my relationships and chances of getting a job anywhere near my own place, this mango you've mentioned seems to basically resemble my entire life since. Everything from the changes in charisma to the masks I have to wear between the different types of people I have to deal with. Even going into in-depth research regarding cognitive mechanics analytical psychology. Especially with all the narcissists I've realized I should have been keeping better track of.
Gods I WISHED...Akumetsu is for sure THE revenge porn manga. But I like also how repeatedly over the story, they admit "What I am doing is no less evil"

I like this one a lot. Despite this not really being a central point until the very last arc, I was invested into Hazama and his girl's relationship and it ended in a very sad way, that still keeps me wondering if that pod was a standalone, or she's practically a 4th now
It would be an awesome idea if every politician in the anime voiced themselves.
It would actually bring levity and self awareness to the situation.
FINALLY someone is talking about this manga
The Autor of this Anime could it crowdfounding this anime to become an real Anime. May a American Studio that able to make this anime can do it.
Damn you bring back some memories. Loved reading this manga when I was younger.
You got me into this manga years ago
Thank you for reminding me of this awesome manga. I never finished it back when an did it after watching your video. Here for an AKUMETSU anime.
I'm still hoping it gets adapted someday.
Listen, if shit like Redo of Healer can get one, this one can too.
I'd have massive respect to whatever studio decided to adapt this just for the balls it takes to even take such a project on, with extra kudos if they manage to translate the action (especially the executions) into anime form faithfully
4:21 in, and I'm sold, adding it to the christmas wishlist now.
Yoshiaki Tabata: Akira Toriyama's moustached evil twin.
Always loved Akumetsu, glad you're covering again!
W video
never heard of this manga before. to ma list to read
thanks
Honestly, this is probably one of my 5 mangas alongside the likes of one piece, vagabond, and 20th century boy's.
Not the shout out to magic johnson oh my god great video
This feels like if Garth Ennis wrote a manga and I'll definitely check it out. Thanks for the amazing recc!
Not enough whining about how ww2 soldiers are ackshual heroes for a Garth Ennis piece
It is truly a legendary manga. I'm glad you covered this - more people need to read it.
I can easily see the point why this can't be made into an anime and broadcasted on TV. Considering the current state of affairs in Japan, since their current government is not well received at all, it could cause quite a bit of controversy.
It can probably be adapted into a Netflix Original Anime, though.
Or done as an OVA like in the olden days.
@@HydraSpectre1138Netflix maybe but it still will get a big attention enough for it to be controversial and OVAs are not something studios are willing to make much nowadays because it isn't the 80's anymore where you can spend as much on it because they were mostly passion projects.
I've read about 30ish chapters of Akumetsu, and it's a really great manga, Shou is essentially, as you stated, a mortally grey vigilante 💯.
Damn Akumetsu is epic. Especially the Systema scene hits hard. Emotional as well.
one of my character is Sergeant Sharia. a counterpart of Captain America.
upholding the sharia law in the US soil in Punisher/Judge Dredd style.
I read this years ago I think I was still in high school and it still holds up to this day. One day I hope to spread the knowledge of Akumetsu and other older anime content someday. It challenged you to think and a pod light novel to read is Reverend Insanity if you understand the undertones.
We Need Akumetsu to visit Narcolas Maburro and Right the wrongs of that Dictatorship.
How nostalgic. I’ve been away from manga for the most part for a decade. Slowly getting back into it.
Akumetsu was amazing, and so appropriate for today's political climate.
It feels really weird being reminded of this because I once stumbled upon it by sheer chance and got quite absorbed by it during the edge teenager phase of my life. It was already completed by then and while I do think it goes a little too weird near the end of it, overall I still really like it.
got it all at Lucca Comics some years ago. I was so happy that it was printed in my country!
I read this manga after you recommended it a few years ago and it was a wild ride
Wow, I never even thought someone would review this manga. I read Akumetsu waay back when I was in highschool and I am entering my 30s. It was for me, one of the most unforgettable read that I have ever done.
The MC’s face kinda reminds me of Senku, just older
Finally, I thought I was the only one who thought the thumbnail was a DR. Stone sequel or spinoff.
I remembered reading this when it first came out and not really understanding the context around it. I thought politicians acting like scum was the norm, especially when they are far removed from common man. (The police schemes taught me how to avoid them. You know, when the end of the month comes around and the cops want more money, they start writing more tickets. This means entrapment of sorts by catching you making basic driving mistakes that could be interpreted as breaking the law.)
The ending though, that ending is messed up to an extent.
I remember certain scans had info pages about the situation of Japan and how certain people made it worse.
bro it was so nostalgic watching this video i never thought i would actually hear another human being bring up this manga.
Such a underrated manga...We could all use more Akumetsu in our life.
Happy seeing this old gem getting some love! Still is one of my favourite manga of all time
Biggest issue is that Mappa would definitely be the type of studio to pick this up, unfortunately it's one of the most inhumane studios so I can't say I'm looking forward to whatever masterpiece they choose to animate
I love this series, and thank you for making this video 😁.
I’d be hilarious if a Korean aeni studio picked this up. I’d love to watch it
Story so interesting I had to stop mid video and go read the manga before coming back. I can confirm this truly is amazing
It is also my favorite. Thanks for the suggestion all those years ago.
YOOO i never see ppl talk about this manga! i love this thing!
I read akumetsu about 15 or 16 years ago, and it still sticks with me, especially the wheelchair imposter
Gods I WISHED...Akumetsu is for sure THE revenge porn manga. But I like also how repeatedly over the story, they admit "What I am doing is no less evil"
The masked man is the reason I read Akumetsu, and I'm forever grateful.
Feels like the original comic of the Mask.
Decided to read the manga after watching this video. Took me about 3-4 days to read all 161 chapters. I just finished the last chapter a few mins ago. Thank you for recommending this manga via the video, it has become one of my favorite manga of all time and can definitely be considered a masterpiece.
