A barefoot princess with a hypnotic voice.
Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman.
Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on UA-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz.
Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.
Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate.
At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. PLEASE PURCHASE Angelina’s book from her merchandise store on her official website, angelinajordanofficial Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on UA-cam went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old. In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration. Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14. At age 9, Angelina recorded a music video covering the 1956 Jay Hawkin’s classic, “I Put a Spell On You”. The video begins by showing Angelina writing her “wishes” for how she wants to perform the song. Angelina has always created her own arrangements for her cover songs. At age 10 and just a week before her 11th birthday, Angelina recorded a demo of “I’m Still Holding Out for You”. Her family never pursued having that recording officially released but someone leaked it on a UA-cam video. Thankfully, everyone involved with that song is now ok with the leaked version. Many angels (fans) believe this is one of Angelina’s best performances. When Angelina was 11, she performed a number of concerts in Norway with a jazz/rock band. Those concerts included up to 14 songs, each remarkably performed. Angelina seems to be at her best when on stage, never nervous, only 100% confident. Also at age 11, Angelina recorded her “It’s Magic” album which has, at times, been in the top 10 best selling jazz albums. On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed Frank Sinatra “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year. During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each. In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT. Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on UA-cam. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. On UA-cam, search on The Complete Works of Angelina Jordan as Rusty Shackleford has put all songs in one file and has a complete playlist in the description of that video. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her. During the pandemic, Angelina was often seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles. In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one. Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield” In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song. Angelina has posted numerous short performances on Tik Tok and Instagram. Angelina had concerts in Norway in July 2022. In December 2022, Angelina performed at the Asian American Awards in Los Angeles. On 2/27/23, Angelina performed at the FIFA Awards ceremony in Paris, France, with a viewing audience in the millions. On May 5th, 2023, Angelina released her original "Love Don't Let Me Go". On July 23th she released her orginal EP “Old Enough”.
Angelina perform Concert at the Music Hall in Portsmouth New Hampshire on Sept 22nd, 2023. It Was a great concert, who was not and could regret it, a big mistake. On 10/27/23 she released her new orginal singiel “Our Time”. In November 2023, she was presented as a debutante at Le Bal des débutantes in Paris. On 12/08/23 she released new Marry Christmas EP “Driving Home for Christmas”. On 12/10/23 she sing in Oslo at the Nobel Peace Prize Celebration - Unchained Melody tribute to 2023 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Iranian human rights activist Narges Mohammadi. On february 29, 2024 she had two concerts in Las Vegas, Nevada,on the Elvis stage.

It was a night I could not sleep and my mother was stressed that I was awake long after midnight. Then I borrowed my mom's iPad where I wanted to listen to jazz on UA-cam before I fell asleep. Then came a picture of a beautiful lady screaming at the sky and with her eyes closed. I heard the song "Gloomy Sunday" that night and then I had to hear it every day. I love the melody. I understood well what the text was about because I know English well. Every time I sang it I felt something special about it, it's hard to explain in words. When I sang it for mom, she said that this song is nice, but that it was incredibly sad song. " ♥👣👸🏻🎷

Please do the rest of this NGT competition....next is A Cappella, "I'm A Fool to want You" (Billy Holiday), 3rd one is "Bang Bang" (Nancy Sinatra) and the final is Gershwin's "Summertime" from Porgy and Bess. This young genius/prodigy does not choose the typical children songs at this age...classic songs from decades ago. There is no "wheels on the bus go round and round" or any of that..she is quite brilliant beyond her years with the absolute Talent to match. Love the reaction!!!. You will see that over the 6 months of the competition she noticeably improved with each of her 4 performances. Between 7 & 8 her vocal skills were improving exponentially, such that her performance in the finals, when she sang the jazz standard, Summertime, she had achieved Masterpiece level. Watching her grow up on YT while she perfects her craft, is truly inspiring.
In the mind of this Angel, she is already a Superstar, although she may not be one to the world...yet. if you compare her rendition at 7 to the original by the great Lady Day , the resemblance is remarkable. Thanks for supporting Angelina. ❤❤❤❤👣
A memorable video for sure, never to be forgotten. That was her official introduction to the world. The blonde woman crying backstage was her mother and when she was interviewed about how she was feeling at that time she said she was very proud of her daughter but realized from that time on she would have to share her daughter with all the people in the world.

Hi Charlene. This was the moment that Angelina leapt onto the world stage as this clip went viral. She says in her recent documentary that people would fly to Oslo from places like Los Angeles and show up at her school to get a glimpse of her. I expect many people will be answering your question about her grandmother, but I didn't see any answers just scanning through the comments, so I'll provide one. I think you guessed she was the woman who hugged Angelina and called her "Jordan" after her performance. We don't actually know who that woman is (maybe she's a relative, maybe a friend of the family), but the grandmother everyone talks about, Mery Zamani, is the dark-haired woman who is seen about to walk out the door with Angelina and her mother, Sara, near the end of the video. She can be seen earlier in the video, facing away from us, recording the action with a small video camera (at the point where Angelina refers to her "huge chreering crowd"). Sometimes it seems like she has recorded every minute of her granddaughter's life. Fortunately for us, she has posted quite a bit of that online, including over 300 videos on the YT channel called "Angelina Jordan Fanclub Mosarz". ("Mosarz" is the name Mery uses professionally in her career as a visual artist. I think that name originally comes from the fact that she was considered a child prodigy [a "Mozart"] when she was growing up in Iran - but not in music: her talents were in art and poetry.) Nowadays the posting activity has moved to TikTok (insert ominous music cue here).
Anyway… in that shot where Mery is recording, the man directly in front of her is Angelina's father, Christian. He is holding her little sistier, Juliette. (And just for completeness, the woman between Angelina and her mother in that shot is her teacher, Linn. There are several other people I could point out elsewhere in the video, but nevermind.)
