is ALWAYS the belt. On a Walkman they are super easy to swap. On a Recorder unit there are two belts(one really small and this and one like this) that have to be changed. But the circuit boards on the recorders are way more intricate. Nice work! about to do the same thing to one on found at the swap meet this past weekend. i hear the motor spin but not the reel arm

You’ll want a soft plastic pry tool of some sort. If you look at the last few minutes of the video I explain how to open it.
