- I'll show you how to change a drive belt on a Sony Walkman WM-FX373.
I bought this walkman for £1-2 at a car boot sale which wouldn't play. The tape reels wouldn't turn and it made a clunking sound. This is an easy fix and sony walkmans can still sell for £20+. Some of the more rare ones can sell for £100s.
Items I use:

IPA Isopropyl Alcohol - amzn.to/3j1PupR

Perciva Soldering Mat - amzn.to/3dEMcIC
Soldering Iron Tip Cleaner - amzn.to/3dGxJvO

Great Video must repair mine, I've just got the basic model, thanks for showing how it's done.
No problem 👍
This was the first step to repairing ours, thank you so much. If anyone else is still having trouble after replacing the belt like we did (for us the rotor would spin for a few seconds and then the DIR switch would flip and the whole thing would stop), you might just need to clean out the gears with a toothbrush and some acetone(vinegar)+hydrogen peroxide+rubbing alcohol.
I'm glad this helped and the other problem you had sounds like gummed up old grease. When grease ages it gets sticky so cleaning it all with IPA (alcohol) would help remove all that old sticky grease. I would of added some molycote grease back to the gears after cleaning it though. Glad you got it all working again though, well done. 👍
@@RetroElectronicRepair The rubber belt actually melted because of the heat where the Walkman was stored, and I think that stuck to the gears
Great job, a man after my own heart repairing small electricals. At least you didn't need a micrscope like most of the jobs we have to do these days these days. Nostalgia at it's best and still practical, Thank you and keep up the great videos.
Thank you.
Awesome, saved two units from the bin watching this! Thanks for taking the time to make this video 👍
Glad it helped!

@@RetroElectronicRepair I honestly didn’t think you’d have a belt for that
I have one of those where the auto reverse is jammed 😭
I nearly bought one of these on ebay not to long ago!
I just found your channel, very interesting. I just wondered what courier or way of posting you found the best/cheapest? as I noticed your postage prices are very reasonable.
Thank you glad you like the channel. Anything under 2kg goes Royal Mail over that it goes with UPS or if it's a very large parcel it goes with Parcel Force. Large parcels with Parcel Force are usually under £10 if you link your eBay account with them.
Hi, can you tell me where I’ll be able to purchase a replacement belt and what size? I have this exact model.
I'm not sure of the exact size now as I don't have this anymore. The belts I used were on eBay and sold as a bag of 50 various size tape belts. If you search for that on eBay you will probably find them.
What was the size of the belt you used ?
I can't remember the size now but there are belt kits available on eBay
Do you know how to access the belt on the sony wm fx-553?
Sorry no I don't. I'm not familiar with the insides of all these models.
@@RetroElectronicRepair Thanks
