126 was no joke. I appreciate the tech, honesty, and details about your observations. I'm sure we're not sharing gearing, clutching, tuning info, hahaha. That's fast!

Sled were on Max spool 17 tune on 91 octane. All sleds had different setups from stock sidewinder clutch to STM. Gearings varied sled to sled. Black sled and quickest fastest had tall gearing a 1" track optimal for hard snow icy bottom conditions

My dad has the 17 xf9000 with 280hp tune and a bmp can with thunder products clutch kit. Yes it has an updated clutch also. Its ridiculously fast.

Interesting .. when I was 10 on a modified 1975 Suzuki Fury I was hitting 110 MPH. I would have thought by now with double plus the displacement and friggin turbos 150+ MPH.
The snowmobiles now are for fragile porcelain dolls...

Was it the blue/white one with the red seat? I had one...g'damn bullet!

@@Robboned .. As I recall .. the cowling was silver flake metallic, black seat with bare aluminum tunnel and black skis. The track had "U" shaped traction bars. The engine, carburetors, exhaust, etc wasn't stock. I was never afraid of speed. Obviously it was my father's snowmobile, after that I got my first 1979 Arctic Cat 6000 El Tigre. My father use to build dragsters as a teenager. So yeah...

I guess I was watching this video expecting a hell of a lot more. I live in Florida now .. so no snowmobiling. Though I've been thinking of maybe buying a sled and I'd at least want to fly down a lake at 150+ MPH...

D Jaquith Yeah fucking right. You let me know how it feels hitting 120 MPH on a snowmobile on ice and imagine another 30 MPH on top of that. It’s can be done very easily. All of these sleds are capable of it. It’s just the clutching. Having enough to let get ripping that fast. Look at the GPS vids above, they’re pulling ridiculously hard right through the 125+ range where they let off, likely due to clutch or just fear. By the way, I guarantee that your pops machine wasn’t hitting anywhere close to 110 MPH on a GPS. No way no how. I don’t care what exhaust it had.

@@null2268 plus all 3 of these sleds can, when they're done racing on the lake, drive straight to the trail and do a 200 mile round trip. Many of these sleds have 20-30 thousand miles on them and counting. Porcelaine dolls lol, nothing from the 70's had a fraction of that kind of life.

Was that on a speedo? Cause I doubt you were actually getting that speed on a old 1975 sled. Back in 1993 my buddy had a 1989 Indy 650 and got 105 mph on radar. and it was hard to get that.

The stock 2018 & 19 Cat is faster, perhaps due to clutching.

@@carelesswaystv8717 yeah... you have to excuse me as there are a lot of brand loyal people with agendas commenting. That's why I asked the pros. Thanks for yoir input.

mike hawk I’m not a pro and I am brand loyal to yamaha but we ride with a lot of cats that are identical to our sidewinders / vipers and they seem to blow belts all the time. Not only that but if you do blow a belt they are far more expensive. None of the sidewinders in our group have blown a belt yet.
