This is just amazing to see. I didn’t want it to end!
Brilliant scenes with brilliant people.
Priceless
fascinating
Wow! fantastic stuff thank you Philippe.
Beautiful footage! Wonderful to see, thanks AGNSW for posting the link.
I'm glad someone gave these old home videos to NFSA. Had he not, who knows what might've happened. They might've been destroyed, or worse. Thanks for posting. :)
I used to go to Mirka's café in Exhibition Street after ballet class at Paul Hammond and Peggy Sager's studio where Dudley Simpson, the composer, accompanied the classes on piano - but that's another story. EVERYONE in the video - just about - was there at some time and Ian Sime and others. Mirka's home-made chicken liver terrine and coleslaw.was a staple, and my favourite dish. I remember Gertie and Klaus and their house and bountiful hospitality - not just to some starving artists but their friends as well - and Mirka's gallery in Collins St and the parties and all the red pompoms dancing in the dark at one of them when a French ship was in dock; Murrumbeena Pottery, Neil Douglas' home at Bayswater, Mary and John Perceval's home in Canterbury; and the children who were always there too, until my own came along to join some of them and we eventually went to live in another bohemian enclave in outer Melbourne.
It was such a pleasant surprise to watch this video with so many old friends and memories of a wonderful era and way of life we all shared in some way when we were younger. What we all had in common was our passion, in some form or other, for art, literature, poetry, dance and music. It may have led some in different directions where we parted company in various ways and at different times - but we all kept up the passion and we were all there. Who of us left could ever forget ......
Thanks for the wonderful footage and the post!!
Wow.
TWO CORRECTIONS IN MY NARRATION: 1) The Mirka Cafe was in Exhibition Street 2) Joy Hester is breastfeeding Fern Smith.
KLAUS ANSCHEL HAS PASSED IN PEACE AT 96 IN THE UK. WONDERFUL MAN. A FULL AND RICH LIFE WITH HIS LOVING FAMILY AND FRIENDS. VALE KLAUS!
Sad news. Thank you for letting us know. A good innings.
Wow amazing footage great to see what Melbourne was like , do you guys have any outer suburb footage such as the Northern, Eastern , or Western park of Melbourne ?

North Balwyn looks very different today. Thanks mate.
The street sign at 1:14 shows Fintonia st. SE 12. That would make it Hughesdale.
Brilliant those were the days before the.Nanny state!!!
Those were also the days of a nasty conservatism that made the city a bigoted backwater too..🤣
. . at 1:43 . . 9 Collins Street, Grosvenor Chambers en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grosvenor_Chambers . . Georges and Mirka Mora had the very large studio area ground floor towards the rear extending almost to Flinders Lane.
broader cultural scene commences 1:43 with exterior photography, 9 Collins Street, mid 1950's.

We’re you playing with a real hammer?! 😅
Mirka died recently in 2018.
Mirka was so beautiful. I hope that’s not being disrespectful. What happened to women that dressed and behaved like women
Melb a backwater in early 50'!!!!
Why I don't trust the boomers of today who are still stuck in that timewarp.
