Just Look how Mr. Bush's son as POTUS, despite his antics in Iraq, reached out to Muslim Americans within 72 hours of 9/11 to acknowledge that the vast majority of them practice their religion lawfully and peacefully. Trump just took the GOP TOO far Right, promising a ban to enter the USA on Muslims, a clear violation of "Freedom of Religion"...and his having never fully disavowed the White Supremacist vote, calling the Charlottesville Nazis (Alt Right) "very fine people".
I'm a Lib, but I support rational peoples' 2/A Right to Bear Arms and I wish Fiscal Conservatism would dial back the Military Industrial Complex.

@@mtadams2009 Limited centralized government and fiscal responsibility are fine ideals. Comparing Trump to the previous Republican administration, Trump made an unenforceable campaign promise to bar entry into the USA based upon the individual's religion being Islam. Conversely, President W Bush, 3 days after 9/11 in his "Axis of Evil" speech, acknowledged the law-abiding majority of peaceable practicing Muslims.
The problem is that Conservatives have grown entirely too comfy being in the political proximity of neo Nazis. I think if you polled normal Americans on an issue-by-issue basis, nobody would be "fully-red" or "fully-blue".
I sorry/not sorry joke that in my utopian political ideal, I'd be able to smoke a joint at the public execution of a child molester.

I am a conservative and my two best friends were as liberal as they come and yet we were/remain best of buds. It wasn't "He is a Democrat so he must be bad or He is a Republican so he must be evil and judgmental" but rather so we disagree on politics and we found common ground to bond over. One guy and I had every single class together for four years and we had similar music taste, the same humor and a love of sports. The other guy and I were both avid readers and fans of Stephen King and sci-fi/horror fans and comic book geeks way, way before it was cool.
Like Carvey said "it was just a different time" and in most ways it was better. Just some observations and things that I miss from the 1980s/1990. The Music and Movies. Respect, I called my friends parents Mr and Mrs Johnson or Mr and Mrs Simonson not Jane & Freddy or Marie & Ted. We almost all had after school jobs by the time we were 16. No cell phones so you had to keep some change to make a phone call home. When you went to hang with Pete & Larry, the parents trusted you were there and you would make it home safe. Video movie rentals. Music videos on MTV, how can you refer to your self as MTV and not show music. When you left your job and went home, nobody texted or emailed you until Monday, they respected your two days of private time. Nobody flipped out when two people lit a cigarette while talking on a park bench out in the open air. If you brought home a failing grade or bad report card, you and you alone were responsible. Not the teacher or the principal or the kid sitting next to you. We all had nicknames in high school and yet nobody was ever labeled a bully. Wish I could go back there. Best of times.

This is what it is really all about, it's too bad we can't go back to this era when it comes to imitating the President. Trump overreacts way too much to the SNL skits and other people were afraid to imitate Obama (or make fun of) because they were afraid protestors would harass them and they would be labelled racists.

RIP Bush Sr. IMO the last president and the only one in my lifetime (which goes back to JFK) other than Carter and Reagan who truly was a "decent" human being. So great that these two people of very different backgrounds and political viewpoints could be such great friends...impossible in today's loony POS world

Can you even imagine the current occupant of the Oval Office inviting someone into the White House to make fun of him. It takes a confident, strong person to do that. George Bush was that kind of man. And to think this event took place after Bush had lost his re-election bid.

    • @bobriedel3277

The current resident of The White House cannot invite comedians over for "a few laughs" because nowadays, the strong hatred by the left toward Donald Trump is just too much to bear. The jokes would not be in "good fun" or "good taste". They would be hateful beyond good taste and designed to insult and be as hurtful as possible. As much as I disagreed with President Obama, I could never be as rude, classless and disrespectful to him as the left is to President Trump.
