Gemälde im Gespräch

Anlässlich der Ausstellung "Sommer der Moderne" (5.5. - 3.9.2023) im LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur erweckt der Film Kunstwerke zum Leben und stellt Fragen an die Kunst-Sammlung im Museum. Die Chanteuse Madame Riau, gemalt von der Künstlerin Ida Gerhardi, führt durch den Film und stößt dabei auf alte und neue Weggefährt:innen. Dabei beobachtet sie u.a. Manspreading und Macho-Gehabe in der Kunst. Sie berichtet von der strukturellen Ausgrenzung von Frauen aus Kunstakademien und wie sich Künstlerinnen trotzdem durchgesetzt haben. Und sie stellt Fragen zum Umgang von Museen mit entarteter Kunst und Werken von Künstler:innen mit nationalsozialistischer Gesinnung.
On the occasion of the exhibition "Summer of Modernism" (5.5. - 3.9.2023) at the LWL Museum of Art and Culture, the film brings works of art to life and poses questions to the art collection in the museum. Chanteuse Madame Riau painted by artist Ida Gerhardi leads the way through the film, meeting companions old and new. She observes manspreading and macho posturing in art. She reports on the structural exclusion of women from art academies and how women artists have nevertheless asserted themselves. And she asks questions about how museums deal with degenerate art and works by artist with national socialist ideology.
