  • The much-anticipated Nikon Z 6iii is finally here and thanks to Nikon Singapore, I’ve had a chance to review their latest mirrorless camera in the Nikon Z lineup. In this review, I talk about the new Partial Stacked Sensor, low light performance and find out who this camera is really for.
    Review my blog for more images with the NIKON Z6iii:

    Thanks, Zach! What are the major reasons to upgrade from z6ii, other than better auto focus? If sensor is same, any difference in low light performance, like for astrophotography?

    • @ZacharyLaiPhotography
      @ZacharyLaiPhotography  3 місяці тому +1

      For astrophotography, I really appreciate Starlight View and Warm Display settings that's already a thing in the newer Z cameras. It makes it a much better experience shooting in dark conditions. Night scenes look really clean and crisp with good iso performance as far as street scenes are involved but if your main application is astro, I think the reasons for upgrade are minimal.

      Here's a shot at iso2000 at night, only Adobe LR's built-in noise reduction was applied.

    Informative and engaging review. The Z6iii is going to be a HUGE win for Nikon.

    The ISO 25600 crop looks quite good, BUT when you say "no noise reduction applied", do you mean that the camera itself also did not apply any noise reduction? Because from how the noise looks, I'd say that there is some NR applied. Although of course I'm watching this on YT as well, which has its own lossy compression.

    • @ZacharyLaiPhotography
      @ZacharyLaiPhotography  3 місяці тому

      I think “no additional NR” will be more precise. These images are mostly sooc jpegs without any tweaking to reduce noise but Lightroom has already applied its own profile which includes some NR by itself.

    Hi great video but why u have shown all jpeg pictures taken in low light. Want to see how much noise in raw. Even in Z7ii jpeg pics are very sharp but raw huge amounts of noise.

    Great video to showcase the low light performance of the Z6 III. I was hoping Nikon would put a screen setup like Panasonic S1H or Sony A7R V, satisfy photo and video folks at the same time. It’s still a great camera with the new tech and features.

    Thanks for a no-nonsense practice run on the Z6III, Zach. Easy to relate to and as a former resident, also love to hear the Singapore lingo 🙂. Personally, I am coming from the first gen Z6 and look forward to better AF, leading EVF, better speed and low-light capabilities. Very much agree with you on the screen but do appreciate that I can now flip it in portrait mode as well. Ordered it. Please keep up the good work!

    I have 850...been wanting to move up to mirrorless. I usually shoot at lounges, at night, people dancing and sometimes objects. Go for Z6III or Z8?

    • @ZacharyLaiPhotography
      @ZacharyLaiPhotography  3 місяці тому +1

      Both are really good options. I think the Z6iii has a slight edge. FYI I switched from D5 and D850 to the Z6 and Z7 as a professional weddings and events photographer. Learn how to use the mirrorless AF modes and you'd be fine. I usually toggle between 3D tracking and auto area (depending on situation) and it works for me, as especially with BBF.

    Thanks for a great low-light demonstration. Did you also use the silent electronic shutter in a situation with cheap LED lights that usually cause banding? would love to know if the Z6III can mitigate banding better than the Z8.

    Nice review, Zachary. What did you think of the IBIS on the camera? Did you have VR on @4:30? It seemed a bit jumpy.

    • @ZacharyLaiPhotography
      @ZacharyLaiPhotography  3 місяці тому

      VR is on but I had the Accsoon Seemo + Battery + my iPhone 13 Pro Max mounted on the hotshoe, resulting in a badly balanced setup especially at 135mm. In retrospect the new VR linked to AF function probably made the stabilisation worse as there's unexpected weight on the camera body and should be off in situations like this. But I'm sure you'll understand the tourists showed up unexpectedly and I only had a few moments to ask permission to shoot and pose them, so there wasn't any time to change the setup.

    It's not better than the Z8 you have clearly fell for and believe that lower mega pixels are better for low light the truth and reality is it isn't. The Z6iii is only better than the Z6ii and Nikons current 24mp King. It has an impressive buffer and the focusing capabilities a $2500 camera should have in 2024 and a faster processor and will be great for action photographers so don't make it out to be revolutionary 📸👊🏻

    • @ZacharyLaiPhotography
      @ZacharyLaiPhotography  3 місяці тому +8

      Not trying to. I prefer my Z 8 tremendously over the Z 6iii and think it’s way better in many aspects. The Z 6iii doesn’t make me feel like I need to buy it in a hurry and I don’t intend to. However if we’re speaking strictly about low light performance, I think the Z 6iii does have an edge because of better iso performance and VR.
