If you watch the lyrics it's about sailing thru you live with its ups and downs, friends that come and leave, people you meet in your life, nice things and problems and finally, your life comes to a soothing end. Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Tuomas dedicated some lines to Marko Hietala, who left the band as you know: "You who glow In deepest woe Let it be, retiree, the water's fine Sail carefree" This song is the most complex composition of the album, more metal symphonic than symphonic metal so to say, and that it why also some composers reacted to it. The most emotional song, with Floor cutting your soul, is Lanternlight that you already have reacted to, my secret pleasure is Spider Silk, with some Tolkien vibes in the lyrics.
Love this musical journey ❤❤❤ After Lanterlight, for me the best track on the new album! Great concert opener or closer 😁 Would be awesome live with a full orchestra and choir❣️
For someone like me, who has preferred heavy metal since I was a young boy beck in the 1960's, I absolutely love this song! This album is one of the best I have ever listened to, and without a doubt it's a masterpiece!! The CD is in my SUV's CD player, and I listen to this song with the sound up quite high! Great review!! You're one of my favorite reviewers! 9.4....excellent! Totally agree!
Another great reaction! Classic Tuomas to use the ocean as a metaphor for our life's journey. For me I like heavy as long as it is melodic. I even listen to some Melodic Death Metal (Arch Enemy) which I love because it has a melody and isn't just noise. Tuomas has said "The song actually has a triple meaning. I hope people will read the lyrics and find their interpretations of the song. I do want the listeners to interpret it themselves. However, I can share a little anecdote: I remember the moment when I conceived the idea for this song and felt so excited - oh yes - this is going to be a great adventure. I took a big A4 sheet of paper and made a drawing on it. Throughout the time I was composing “An Ocean Of Strange Islands”, that drawing remained on my music stand. I won’t reveal what was in that drawing, though." Tuomas and his wife, Johanna Kurkela, have a tradition on New Years where they draw a map where each Island represents a goal or a dream that they wish to achieve. In addition to the song being about one's journey through life and the people we meet along the way, a number of people thought that one of the meaning's of the song was Tuomas's journey and experiences in Nightwish. The islands are all the people and experiences he and Nightwish have experienced over the last 30 some years. All the monsters and hurricanes that were obstacles to the band's success. Friends and bandmates have come and gone, sometimes badly yet he doesn't regret any of those experiences. In the end don't dwell on the bad stuff or worry about what will be. Continue the journey. Continue your story. Troy's pipes at the end are that calming acceptance of who we are and our journey. It is a sense of home within ourselves and comfort in knowing that even when our story ends, it will be ok because that is what is supposed to happen. In the end we all get to find our own meaning as Tuomas has always desired of his fans!
🤗🍒🤘🏻 Great Job guys, It's also the first time I saw you enjoying and laughing but on their new album you will come across many more songs that seem very different and turn out to be what you think
Instead of; "The big Three", "GLSC", "TPATP" and "TGSOE". It's time for us "Nightwish Army", to call it; "The Big Four" cuz this song; "AOOSI", truly belongs in there aswell! If you're a true Nightwish fan, you'll know what these abbreviants mean.
Themes running through Nightwish album Yesterwynde - the journey of life, timeless, petrichor (which ties in with the imagery in this lyric video too - butterflies are reborn from caterpillars, emerge from their cocoons, fly all over feasting on nectar but can feast on the world’s decay too! But wear does the butterfly go when it rains? Butterflies don’t venture out into wild oceans & storms either. Things change along the journey. Then, after the storms have passed, and land is approaching, the birds can be seen flying, all is calm again on the journey. Seeking a “star bound quay”. **** - “Sail and seek The starbound quay Calling you, calling me To be a part of your story” ***** During interviews for this album release Tuomas spoke of a blissful evening on a boat, in a tranquil quay staring up at a star filled sky - he said it was the most peaceful & beautiful experience he has ever encountered. There are so many Easter Eggs linking music, lyrics and themes from previous songs, albums, videos & interviews it is incredible! Even the albums cover image - the boat, swirling / the clock. 👏 All of the Singles released so far paint the picture / tell the story. The Weave is another gem on the album. For me the pinnacle is Lantern Light - So beautiful. 🤍 (The last song on this album & The Triology of the last 3 albums). Listen to this album from beginning to end in order of the track listing. (600 music tracks have been mixed). What an epic listening journey & life journey! Enjoy these talented musicians.
Tuomas déjà vu themes. Did you catch the shout-outs? "The Butterfly Effect"? Verse 1 “A Mariner under a sky Moonlit” [GLS?] “Crewless ship” [The Islander? “Shipless crew”, Yesterwynde] A "Siren"? “A few decades” [Endlessness?] “A one-man crew for a one-way trip” [The Islander?] “Every shore I land”, (A painter, on the shore). [Storytime, Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean?] “Steep cliffs” Where the cliff greets the sea... [Élan?] "Not Waving but Drowning" is a poem by Stevie Smith. The Butterflies looking like a Galaxy, or 3D animation of cells. More Metal, old skool! Verse 2 The spelling to amuse the Americans, Cay, then Quay. “Jokers, jesters” [Raving harlequins, gigantic toys? Tricksters, magicians: Last Ride Of The Day?] “Goddesses, hominidae” Floor, humans. “Deep delicious blue beneath” [TPATP, H:||:N: The Blue] “Light a homefire for the sad man with a begging hand” [Song of Myself?] "Bring Me to Life"! [For the Reactors! Don't mention "Eva…”. Also Élan] “Dancing, in the daylight” [Dancing in the dark?] “Saaail and seeeek!” [Hide and seek] Calling you, calling me [sounds like Northward] To be a part of your story [Never Ending Story?] Yay! Those smiles and grins! Is it building? [Set the Dolphins Free!] Ominous horns Did you notice the sail lining up with the clouds, forming a Twister? Then it's repeated, in case you missed it! Verse 3 “Raining ash” [Pompeii?] "An island of past wrecks"; The Antikythera mechanism (the next track). “Endless sundown” [Sleeping Sun?] “Meadows” [Of Heaven?] “Mirrors, mirrors, everywhere” [Noise? The Black Mirror] "Mad despair!” [Scaretale!] Friends, who were for a time “Now grapes of sour wine” [Sour grapes is a phrase that means acting meanly after a disappointment. An idiom that means being angry or resentful because you have not achieved something you wanted.] “Lords of a single fly” [Lord of the Flies, William Golding, Children of 'Ata didn't regress, they were here] "Let it be"... [Nice reference to Abbey Road Studios] Film scores (Tuomas and Floor both like the music of Hans Zimmer). “Saaaaail and Seeeeek!” "Haha!" As John Wick once said: “Yeah, I’m thinking I’m back!" That was crunchy and chunky... "Hoo, hoo!" Is it over? No nuts were harmed. "Titanic" vibes from Troy, letting his Uilleann pipes speak across the centuries. How does it have that effect on us? "The pipes are calling". The calm after the storm.
And this is why so many prefer Floor. Her diction and breath control are key to this performance.
Absolutely! 👌🏻
Word

Operatic metal who would have thought it.
This is like a movie score on steroids.

Well said
Apart from being Dutch, I can see a similarity between Floor Jansen and Max Verstappen: a one-off phenomenon, the GOAT in their respective genre😀
Masterpiece
Its not the heaviest. The Weave is awesome
I may be wrong, but I believe this is the first time I've heard Floor laugh as part of a song.
👍👍A very, very cool MV and performance. 🖖❤
