Such a superbly versatile and talented actor. I saw him play RIchard II one night and RIchard III the next. He was absolutely incredible in both roles. What an amazing actor, totally gentle as Richard II and evil personified as Richard III.
Derek Jacobi is one of those few actors who is literally perfect in every role he does. He adds so much physicality, energy and emotional nuance to every performance. I first saw him in I Claudius growing up (a show full of fantastic writing and so many amazing actors that I absolutely recommend it to anyone) and was hooked. As wonderful as he is on film and TV, however, he is AMAZING in live theater (the recordings of which on film I've seen, and they're some of my favorite things ever - Cyrano de Bergerac is probably my favorite, as it's one of my favorite plays, and he gave the best performance ever done of Cyrano, in my opinion).
I agree. His Cyrano is the best thing I have ever seen and find it incredible it isn't available or rebroadcasted. Theres a VHS transfer on youtube which is all we've got :(
Another famous Leytonstonian was Alfred Hitchcock. He's tremendously good in the BBC video of "Richard II", which is widely available (I bought it in Germany).
Sir Derek is such a charming man - he makes interviewing him very easy!
He is such a wonderful actor; from I, Claudius, The Odessa File, The Jackel, Cadfiel, Hamlet to Dead, Again.
derek jacobi is incredible as hamlet... there is no question he is one of the greats...
Thanks so much for posting.
Saw him on stage in Hamlet, a great actor. Never forget him in I Claudius.

I’ve never taken any notice of him but the other day I saw him as Columbus in Tales of the Unexpected. Great acting and very shocking at the end.
A wonderful interview. Thank you for sharing.
A pleasure. Glad you liked it.
What a great Master he is on Big Finish. They missed the boat only having him play the Master for all of 5 minutes.
In the words of Tim Nice but Dim "Bloody nice bloke"¥
Summed him up in 3 words! Nice one : )
A typical luvvie.
