Marko started young, he was only 16 when Purgatory was founded. So he had already played almost 20 years in Purgatory/Tarot before joining Nightwish in 2001.
There is also the original version of this song called "“Tarot - Wings of Darkness - 1986” in UA-cam, where Marko is 20 years old - you can check this as a comparison as a reaction or just you privately (Marko is without beard and totally different looking, but singing is more pure on clear because he hasn't have the voice cord surgery yet.. Also Marko really shows His exceptional good singing on the 2006 song called "Tarot: Undead Indeed 06 Tides" which is Live performance but good voice and video quality, like NW always has.. TAROT 🤘😎🤘. Tarot was originally formed by the Hietala brothers in the early 1980s. Back then the band was called "Purgatory". As Purgatory reached the point when they got the record deal, they changed their name to "Tarot" at the insistence of the label Flamingo Records. The line-up settled into the form of Marko Hietala (bass/vocals), Zachary Hietala (guitars), Mako H (guitars) and Pecu Cinnari (drums). So...this band is as old as I am 😄. Marko is just sooooo METAL 🤘🤘🤘🤘.
In 1986 or -87 I was in a "concert" and there was a long blond, 80s hair style dude with little bit of make up, playing base and singing also. There and then I knew, this guy has something, some kind of an "animal" inside, trying to get out. But he was from "Savo", Kuopio, a part of Finland, where everything you hear could be true, but could as well not be true, so you are responsible what you do, not the person who told you to do so! So, you can never really trust someone from that Region. A Finnish "folklore" and a joke, but true😅🤣😍🤩

Technically , they are still a band. The drummer passed away in 2016. Since leaving Nightwish, Marko has said new Tarot stuff is "up in the air".
