Thank you for everything, Terunofuji. Hoshoryu will have to silence many doubters, but he is a fine successor in my opinion. He will probably be even more fired up for March.
I can understand he lost to Atami since Atami is simply too big to throw. But Shodai! We love Shodai for all his charm and chaos but how dare you to beat our golden boy! And the funny part, he lost to his sword bearer, Hiradoumi. Dude you can't lose to your kohai.
Nice to see the lighter side of Yokozuna Hoshoryu, smiling and joking. Watching the Basho Highlights on NHK, we only witness his rather terrifying focused Death-stare! Big boots to fill for him now; but some exciting Sumo to come with him at the top! Commiserations to Kinbozan though; I thought he had it in the bag!
@@johncartwright8154 Sumo is definitely unpredictable. Kinbozan fought well until the last day. I believe that, in a matter of time, Kinbozan will have his moment.
Well deserved for hoshoryu, winning 3 bouts back to back in one day is absolutely insane, let alone in less than an hour. He has been consistently scoring 110+ wins in each tournament simce he became ozeki.
So happy for Hoshoryu. He was fierce; relentless and laser focused. He did not allow fear; anger or confusion stop him. He won on his own merit. He deserves this promotion because of his drive & skill at sumo. He deserves this promotion because of who he is - not because of who he is related to. He is well liked by many of the other wrestlers and will grow in to a great leader. May he do well at Yokozuna and remain injury free.
Part of what makes Hoshoryu such a cool and interesting rikishi is that he isn't physically huge, so he has to rely on superior skill, strength and spirit to win bouts. Looking forward to see what he will achieve in the future!
Congratulations to the 74th Yokozuna Hoshoryu 🎉. I know you will carry yourself with the pride and dignity deserving of a yokozuna. I will be cheering for your continued success. Congratulations 👏
My thoughts as well, more than a dozen young rikishi that have the physical talent to become an Ozeki, and even the ones with slightly less talent are skilled and fun to watch. Great time to be a sumo fan.
Congratulations, Yokozuna Hoshoryu! This is not the end, but just the beginning of a brighter future. The sumo world is sure to shine even brighter with young, strong, and competitive rikishi like Onosato, Takerufuji, and Hakuoho. I’m looking forward to great sumo from Oho, Kinbozan, and Kirishima as well
What a great tournament, Hoshoryu has always had great technical sumo that's really fun to watch. With Hoshoryu at the top all this young talent coming and Tamawashi somehow still doing awesome, it's great time to be a sumo fan!
Congratulations on a stellar career to terunofuji, who is responsible for possibly the greatest comeback in all of sports, not just sumo. And also congratulations to Hoshoryu for winning the championship and also marking history in the making. I couldn't be more excited for sumo to have a new yokozuna.
The last couple days were a thing of beauty. First, the title rivals Oho and Kinbozan, then the new stars Onosato and Takerufuji, all dispatched with absolute authority. And then that last day with 3 fights in a row. Wow. I'm really pleased someone with a fighting style as entertaining as his made it to the top. I don't know whether he can iron out the hiccups, but keeping up these 13-2 and 12-3 scores can also bring many yusho and a great yokozuna career.
Congratulation to the new Yokozuna. He truely deserves it!! Despite some few errors here and there, in the last 2 tournment his sumo was so powerful and dominant!! Just wanna mention when he lifted Kirishima in the previous Bosho and when he overpowered Takerofuji in this Bosho!!
So happy for Hoshoryu! I started watching Sumo four years ago and he was one of my favorite Rikishi from the start. I loved his fiery attitude and strong sumo. I was so impressed at his emotion when he won his first yusho. What a competitor and a great rikishi!
Im happy with this news. Hoshoryu got his promotion to Yokozuna and also Terunofuji finally retired. He was a great rikishi, but his body definitely couldnt do it anymore. I'm also happy that Kirishima did much better in this tournament than he had in the past several. Hopefully he can climb back up. I am concerned for Kotozakura. I don't know if he was injured before the tourney or someone got to him. Hopefully it is a temporary hiccup.
Congratulations to Hoshoryu 🎉 We're all so delighted that he made it to this point! His steady climb is reminiscent of Terunofuji, he hasn't had a losing about in over 3 years. Barring injury we could have him for a long time which I'm looking forward to! I hope you can do some videos showcasing his fun-loving side, it's very charming. Teru can finally focus on himself and his health, I'm so relieved. He is a terrific yokozuna but we all knew his time would be short. Still, he managed to stay in the role for about 2 years more than I expected. We were really lucky to have him. So many new oyakata are joining, I hope that you can get some interviews with them as well! Thank you for your constant enthusiasm for sumo, will you be going to London for the exhibition later this year? I hope so!
1:32 Hoshoryu has such great awareness of the ring. His technique is just so solid, and he looks massively powerful. He reminds me of a great warrior. No nonsense and intense. His promotion was well deserved.

It's humbling to think of how rough sumo is on the body. Terunofuji is 33 years old and had to retire from injuries and disease. For most other athletes, their 30s are their prime.
It really feels like I picked a great time to start following this sport. Hiro's comments at the end of the video made me excited for future basho, and Hoshoryu's promotion to yokozuna was incredible to witness. I can't wait for March!

This was such a amazing way to start 2025 Terunofujis retirement early on, Kotozakura being off his game and Hoshoryus 3rd loss we still had an exciting tournament with Kinbozan giving us an amazing and close tournament until the very end
YOOO MY BOY IM SO PROUDDDD. Now he can take some rest without worrying about deranking. Give a chance to the other boys to level up too. This is awesome.
Hiro-san, I am so glad to see you release a video about this. I was getting worried because you haven't posted as many videos lately. Will you have more videos released soon? Can you do a video showing us Sumo school?
A lot were thinking koto would get yoko. I saw the fire in hosh since his record in the last basho in November. I knew he would do well. I didn't know he would get yoko. He worked hard to get it. Well deserved.
Everyone was confident in Kotozakura, but I knew Hosh wanted it more. I couldn't be more proud of him. His bouncing back, the playoff, his fierce style... I know there's some division, but he earned that rope.
That shot from day 12 as Kimbo squats down, and looks up… he was looking like a kid waiting to get his lunch money taken. Then Hosh smoked the two big, young bucks.

Congratulations to Hoshoru. Well deserved , though some are saying a bit premature. Kirashima, vaunted to be the next Yokozuna candidate has appearantly lost his focus. Since changing from Kiribayama, he has gained too much weight, and lost a step, his speed is not what it was 3 years ago. The traditional method of packing weight on a richi has slowed him down too much. His mass has gotten bigger, but his speed and reactions have suffered as he cannot move as fast.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't one of his mentors pass away on day 6 on September? He was on 0 losses before that and then struggled because it's a huge mental stress. Nobody at the Makuuchi level apart from Hoshoryu has had only Kachikoshi scores for 3 years straight.
