- From Kiro TV:
Jamen Shively, a former Microsoft executive, plans to spend the next year researching and building a retail marijuana business that he hopes will bring legitimacy to a long-illegal industry.
Shively said he brainstormed the idea after a few bong hits.
He plans to name the business after his great-grandfather, Diego Pellicer, who was the world's largest marijuana producer in the late 19th century.
"He was supplying hemp rope made from the marijuana tree to the Spanish armada during the Spanish-American War," Shively said. "So I've got marijuana in my blood, so to speak."
Shively said that his product won't be cheap.
"By creating the category of premium marijuana, we want to position it similar to a fine cognac, a fine brandy, a fine cigar," Shively said. "Something to be savored and enjoyed in small quantities by responsible adults."
It will be legal for adults 21 and older to possess marijuana in Washington state starting Dec. 6.

Yes.
he's a hero
I love living in WA!
I like that he has a MacBook
I knew that they must have been really high when they made Windows 8.....
Having experienced weed before; even thought its been 8 years.. I can't honestly say, it's far safer then alcohol... Of course moderation is key, if not, one would have motivation equal to a potato... I will probably try again when I reach my retirement, move to New Zealand, and live in a Hobbit-style home...
I'm sorry but you're not entirely correct. Especially not in Washington state. While we do have a large amount of quality crops there are many others who still dabble in poorly grown, flushed and cured crops.
If you think boutique weed has reached its pinnacle I would have to argue that point.
im not sayin thats what we want i dont want that either it sucks but its gonna happen but i think in the end the real consumer will still stay with the illegal grower becouse our quality is important to us / we arent gonna stop mcbuds etc.. but their existance will bring the stupid to exept us and we can still stay underground our main concern should be protection in the future for homegrowers i think its just a matter of time for legalization the private grower needs protection from the law
regardless of what he does, it needs to happen. Pot needs to get the same LEGITIMACY that wine and cigars have! If its looked at as something rich white people use, then the government will respond better.
I'm still waiting for a company planning on selling/marketing CHEAP weed for the typical stoner volume user, AKA the Econ-Package of weed!!
Why? What is he doing wrong?
I don't see the problem with what he is doing.
Monopolies never need to happen.
I can't wait for Mountain Dew X-Treme weed, now with twice the cannaboids of your grandmas pot.
ti is time
@jlammchops lucky bastard !!
Anyone think they were going to talk about Bill Gates? lol
If he has his way, the small players, the very people who pushed for cannabis de-prohibition, will be squeezed out. He's only interested in capitalizing once the hard work has been done by others. You can bet there's never been a chance of this dick going to jail.
You and I might get to sweep floor, tend buds, clean tables and toilets, but that's about it. Growers would be restricted to the third world where his corp could exploit labor. You know, just like you'd expect from a "Starbuds" type.
I think the "two bongs hits" remark was mean't to be funny or something. Instead it was just stupid.
Maybe you are in perfect health but your sentences could use a bit of work.
Sure, whatever nonsense you insist, fella.
yea its jus gana be falling this guys clueless!
If this guy started a business the product would be high quality and would be VERY cheap. I don't see the problem that you guys are seeing? Whats wrong with high grade cannabis for 100$ a pound?
Corporations getting their greedy hands in the cannabis business.... Get ready for addictive marijuana -.-
Marlboro needs to just start selling packs of mirajuana like they do cigarretes. GENIUS
That Mac on the floor is funny.
"He came up with the idea after a few bong hits."
That explains a lot :D-~
Did anyone notice he has a macbook and he works for microsoft. Hmmm
Its all good though , it will speed up the complete legalization
And people shouldn't be mad at the dude, he knows what he's doing and this is all inevitable anyway so complaining about it isn't gonna do anything. Anyone who's smart enough will grow their own anyway and this guy will not make much money.
Yeah, I get what you are saying but I still can't sell Cannabis legally yet. I'd love to grow and sell conosur bud but I'm not going to risk arrest. I need a clean record in order to grow hemp in Canada.
If you say so, hey?
How is a monopoly compatible with capitalism?
You'll find competition is fundamental to any capitalist society.
Monopolies are contra to capitalism.
An estimated 269,000 people died from injecting marijuanas in the last year alone.
Don't become another statistic.
We always knew every dude at Microsoft smokes weed, Gates did it, hell I'm sure Gabe Newell did it too.
If you say so, right?
You'll find monopolies and capitalism aren't compatible.
im sure with his funds he knows what is and isnt top quality.
Awesome. Too bad this can't happen in Canada any time soon.
