      My career has been in air conditioning (including industrial cooling) and energy efficiency. When they talk about water used in data centres, they are talking about water evaporated in cooling towers. A small percentage of the circulating water flow evaporates to enhance the cooling effect. Not all data centres however use open tower systems. Modern data centres run quite warm cooling water (around 18 degrees centigrade), and use air cooled systems that don’t waste any water.

    I have had a ride in the driverless taxis that are being compared to FSD. The Waymo is just a electric trolley. It goes on a fixed path around the city. if you want to go somewhere on the path, then you can maybe get there as long as nothing unusual is blocking you. If it gets stuck, you have to call a human who is monitoring the Waymo, and they will take over.
    Cruise is limited to limited freeways that have been pre mapped. Also there has to be another car in front of you to follow. It is useful if you are going on the pre-mapped route. It is limited by speed and darkness as well. Mostly useless.
    Supervised FSD will take you anywhere, no pre-mapping or forced trolley routes. In return you must still be ready to take control if you think you should. I have taken FSD trips of over 1000 miles with most of the miles under FSD control. I can't do that with Waymo or Cruise or any of the others. CNBC almost always leaves all of this out of their stories. I wonder why?
    If you don't believe me, then try it for yourself.

      They repeatedly jumped between FSD and Autopilot and very different years interchangeably. They effectively conflated 2017+ autopilot with 2024 FSD even though the softwares are completely different. That alone is a huge problem all throughout this video.
      Additionally, they re-reported the false reporting that Elon improperly diverted Nvidia H100s to xAI. The Austin data center literally wasn’t built yet (drone video shows this) so they’re lying to people (or just grossly ignorant) when they pretend what Elon said isn’t true. The same number of H100s were diverted from xAI to Tesla when the Austin data center was built a few months later. They effectively swapped delivery dates.
      Another point is pretending that Waymo is “ahead” because they offer autonomous services in a few select cities. Anyone with a basic understanding of this technology would know that tesla could geofence their software to a particular city and focus training on that if they wanted to launch something sooner. However that’s not a good approach since they are getting close to a generalized solution which Waymo has no credible path to reach (unless they high definition map every inch of road in the world).
      These are just a few of the issues in this video.

The faster the car travels the faster LIDAR has to rotate else it loses fidelity. Cars with LIDAR cost at least $100K more to augment and they can't even see the curb (ask Cruise about related autonomy death). Why? Just curious, but can you name one thing he ever delivered on? He overpromises stuff "next year" to pump the stock, then shifts the same promise back a year. Rinse and repeat. He just never delivers on anything. Self driving cars, across the entire country / world, with no human intervention, safer than humans driving, were promised "next year" since 2016. Fast forward to 2024, even the summon feature, which basically is the car driving itself, has been disabled. And the last state was that it had troubles reliably being summoned across one parking lot.. let alone actually going across streets. This is about as much of a cliff between promise and reality as is gets, and somehow people still buy his bullcrap lmfao.

    Critics that say Tesla is just a car company are woefully uninformed. When you look at who's ahead regarding self-driving cars you have to compare apples to apples. Waymo drives in highly structured environments. Mercedes has level two but only on highways. The only company creating a self-driving car that can drive anywhere is Tesla.
    What's more, Tesla's approach using cameras and AI is precisely the way humans Drive. The same people down on Tesla are decrying the dangers of AI domination. It's absurd to suggest that an AI smarter than a human won't be able to drive a car with eight cameras. Given that fact, It's only a matter of WHEN Tesla's FSD will happen not if.
    FSD an incredibly difficult problem to solve and the fact Elon Musk is overly optimistic about when it will arrive is understandable. We should not give any oxygen to those on the sidelines criticizing those in the arena pushing Humanity forward.

    • @ronaryel6445
      @ronaryel6445 2 місяці тому

      That's not saying much, because the cars still don't perform as they should. Being the leader isn't enough; the car has to perform reliably and safely in all kinds of scenarios, over and over again, and Tesla's not there yet. A competent autonomous design would use more than just the optical band. For example, taking input from both optical cameras and a passive infra-red camera would prevent the kinds of crashes we have seen with Tesla vehicles in many situations. Now, infrared is not perfect. We have a Night Vision system on our car, and its performance is degraded in heavy rain and snow. But having a computer check inputs from one part of the EM spectrum against another reduces the chances of misinterpretation. (This happens in fighter jets too. For example, Navy pilots flying the F-14D Super Tomcat used its Infrared Spot and Track system to reacquire targets that managed to break the lockon of the APG-71's Doppler mode, enabling them to reacquire the target with the radar) Until I see that kind of improvement, I'm sticking with cars whose technology is there to help the driver drive the car. Those cars do have some useful autonomous feature - for example, you get out of the car, close the door, hit a button and the car parks itself. Later, you come back, hit a button, and the car pulls out of the parking spot and pulls up next to you. Or the car automatically reverses out of a parking garage with a twisty, windy path that it recorded when you pulled into the parking spot. Those autonomous functions happen at slow speed; they are NHTSA certified, and the worst that can happen, generally is a minor fender-bender. I can trust that. Will Tesla (and others) get to a place where we can trust it? At some point in the future.
