I just watched this video for the first time start to finish and I kept getting teary! The grandeur of the music couldn't match this horse any more perfectly. I don't know where people are getting lazy back legs from, I personally see beautiful articulation of the hocks. Each movement is precise, and seemingly effortless, like he is weightless. Edward's riding is quiet, I hardly noticed he was up there I was so absorbed in watching Totilas strut his stuff! This pair was born for this!
Normally, I hate watching dressage, but even I have to surrender when watching Totilas. He is absolutely amazing! It's incredible how a horse can make all of these movements the way he does. Wonderful.
Wow, wow, wow, wow. This two are absolute perfection. The horse's balance is perfect. The way he effortlessly uses his muscles is perfect. His concentration is perfect. Edward Gal's use of his body is perfect because it is so invisible.
Watching this pair in this test brought tears to my eyes! Beautiful. Relaxed. Harmonious. Precise. Totilas just gets better and better! They are heartstopping!!
That perfect piaffe! That amazing extended cantor! The suppleness, the head position...such a magnificent and majestic creature! This pair of athletes compliment each other so well, simply outstanding!
@Quteblonde72 I agree. This horse was not abused. This horse enjoys the dance and takes pleasure in the applause. This was an absolute majestic expression of a horse's abilities. Just beautiful!
FANTASTIQUE!!!!! Wonderful to watch & enjoy the bond & understanding between horse & rider. Are we not the lucky ones who can watch over & over again the wonders of these true stars!!
Edward Gal and Totilas should each be considered the kings of dressage. Whenever I watch this performance, I get the chills from the beginning through to the end. It moves me every single time. The music is incredible, well choreographed, and perfectly captivates the elegance of Totilas. Now if only I could figure out the composer.
i just watched the world cup of 2010 and they won! there is a special bond between edvard and totilas, no horse can compare to that horse! he is magnificent!
Absolutel stunning and perfect movement and conformation. This horse has a gift with his perfect movement. The rider is amazing, many years of training for sure. I am sure he will be in the top 3 with next Olympics! Unbelievable!
I saw him at the FEI Games 2010 in Kentucky 😍 I was taken away at what a team these two were. I think i cried i was so overwhelmed at the performance . Unbelievable, what a team ❤🐎
I think we have our number one dressage horse for WEG 2010 for sure! 92.3%! That's as close to perfection as anyone's going to get! This horse has one miracle of a gift!
I love this team, the horse, tortilas, he's so glad for doing dressage and understands what he has to do that this is just beautiful. He loves his Edward and this has effects. This a real role model for all that do dressage. So unlike Anky.
@Nicole7Queshua Maybe you cannot see him practising the Rollkur, but the after-affects of conflicting signals given by the rider to urge his horse forward with the legs and spurs, and keep restraining through the bit, or the Rollkur, are undeniable and eyesighting.
Flawless passage, absolutely superior. Great sit on the piaffe, tight pirouettes that have the perfect musical accompaniment. In fact, this is perhaps the most dramatic, expertly crafted musical composition for any freestyle to date. The performance was one of those magical moments in history where greatness happens.
@jacmeespie I recently read a student's medical thesis paper that focused on the effects of rollkur. You are right, the effects are disastrous! The horse cannot even breathe properly when ridden in rollkur, and the effects on delicate tendons and ligaments along the spinal column, effects on the eyes (the horse strains to try to see where he is putting his feet), etc are unbelievable.
This is unprecedented! Yes, trust is important, but also the right confirmation, much, much good training, and above all, the horse must have the disposition to accept training, and the will to always do his best. To find everything in one horse is incredible! I Love him!
Absolute perfection! Can't get much better than that. I predict that he will be the first horse ever to reach 100% on a dressage test. I mean, look how close he is! Only 8% away! And he won by 10%, over last years winner. That really is amazing. It's like his legs are made of springs.
I always had to cry seeing Edward and Totilas together. So beautiful!! Now I have to cry because there were split up. WHY?? WHY?? Damn!!! Edward en Toto will always stay and belong together in my heart
5 stars not on the video, but the comment section below. Wow you guys are certainly the nerdest group of people I have ever stumbled on, and for that, thank you.
Can you see those powerful legs?? Gribaldi must be proud of this beautyful offspring. Totilas is a legend which became real. THE horse of the dressage, more power and will then Bonfire himself.
@@saarlooswolfhund6237 Really late reaction, sir/miss. Considering my comment was from 3 years ago. It is obvious, I now know better and in fact have learned that Edward uses Rollkur. So you don’t have to comment on it anymore, really :)
I love this elegant leggy stallion. This video reminds me of the early work of Sandro Hit and rider Dr. Ulf Moeller. Such lovely cadence, big free shoulder, and combination of relaxed confidence and pent up energy under saddle is absolutely wonderful to watch. I can only imagine what it might feel like to actually ride him!
I dont know what was more impressive, the test or that fact that he can wander that huge black stallion around the arena with totally loose reins and the crowd going wild!
I don't care if he is "overproduced", "underproduced", or if he was running around a field never been touched, too "active in the knees" or not he is one fantastic horse and i feel that I am lucky to be around to see this great horse and rider do what so many cannot do.
Thank you,yowArePoof1. No horse can be perfect in every movement, however Totilas is as close as any horse the world has seen. There's always a horse known for a specialty with some short comings. Totilas and Edward take your breathaway.
Although it looked nearly impossible then, Edward and Totilas are already a bit better then in Windsor. It looks more relaxed, especialy Totilas. It proves that Edward is planning the developement of Totilas very good and is working his way even further up. I think we are going te see even better things of them both, although it now looks nearly impossible. Much respect for Edward!
@Lyd93 The problem is, they are great WITH rollkur, imagine how incredible the performance would be without it? The use of rollkur is problematic on several fronts: 1, dressage judges are scoring expressive movement ahead of correct carriage and training. 2, hyperflexion is painful and contradictory to dressage principles. 3, hyperflexion involves unrelenting heavy rein pressure which is confusing to the horse when reins are meant to be a 'stop' aid.
You can actually see the horses dance and move like this when they are loose/free, if they are joyful and excited or want to show off. All dressage-movements are natural.
Edward Gal is a fantastic rider, Totilas is the most amazing dressage horse, no doubt. One thing that sets him apart - he is 98% black, except for his (little) white socks and naturally white hooves. His white hooves and socks accent the movement the entire time. They are a spectacular duo!!!
At Grand Prix level, Dressage riders are required to use a double bridle. It essentially gives the rider a way to communicate multiple things at one time from their hands. The normal setup is a Weymouth (essentially a pelham with no direct pull rings) up front and a loose ring bradoon( a smaller version of a snaffle) in the back. The weymouth is used to control flexion and carriage and the bradoon is used to control speed/direction. Hope this helps.
this horse is one of the most relaxed horses at this level. it is so soft and supple through the back and is definitely not in a hyperflexed frame nor is it showing any signs of tension.. this test is the highest scoring dressage test in history, so pretty sure these top level international judges no more than you.
@rollercoastersistas i feel exactly the same way! they were literally made for each other. you could see the bond between him. totilas listened to gal like i've never seen a horse do before.
I swear someone always has an opinion. Someone is always saying something negative. This is beautiful. I don't see any rollkur going on here. So for those of you that inisist that it is, shut up already or just don't watch it. You're not going to change it, we don't want to hear you, so just go away.
@sally01085 I agree with you that his movements are very saddlebredy. I don't support such a high knee action at the point in his carreer in the video. Since this however I think that he has developed a stronger, more powerful hindquarters so that his high knee action is now supported.
In high dressage competion classes it is a rule that you have to use a candar (to bits). The same rules is for the clothing and boots. When training the horses, many riders only use on bit. But in competion you are required to use candar.
That horse is living proof that dressage horses CAN be beautiful and still act like a normal horse outside the arena! I'm a horse rider myself and I own a dressage horse her highest score was 82% in trailblazers. I wish I owned him! :O
@Lyd93 Plenty of people have seen him warm up using hyperflexion and he was trained by Anky van Grunsven. As recently as January this year he was seen warming up for 30min in a hyperflexed outline, not LDR, but hyperflexed. And yes, horses will do lots of things for you when in pain. Read up about 'learned helpessness' and other equine behaviour theory. Anky talks about her horses regularly throwing her off. That being said, Edward (and Anky) is an amazing rider - its a shame is all.
quick question- WHY THE FRIG ARE PEOPLE CRITICIZING THIS PERFORMANCE!?!? It's incredible, and as near bloody perfect as anyone can get. The horse and rider are both exceptional, which is obvious from the score they recieved. It would take a complete moron to not realize how incredible this performance actually is.

One of the best tests ever! Interpretation, transitions, execution....flawless by both horse and rider.
Couldn't agree more!
Rip Totalis, so so sad.. but what a legacy and we have his babies to look forward to seeing coming up through the stages in time xx 😢
Lol the same abuse

Je ne me lasse pas de voir ce spectacle époustouflant. Huit minutes de bonheur, pour un travail colossal. Le cheval est une splendeur.
Remarkable. What a gift to watch the connection between this wonderful horse and rider.

The most beautiful, talented dressage horse in the world!!!
Смотр на 1 дыхании,сердце замирает.Эти эмоции не передать словами,какой мягкий шаг,переходы,а какая страсть,упорство.По истине легендарный конь!)
A trick: you can watch series at KaldroStream. Me and my gf have been using them for watching lots of of movies during the lockdown.
@Raiden Patrick Yup, I have been watching on kaldroStream for years myself :)
I love dressage. The amazing art of communicating with the horse in order to perform movements that come natural in the wild. What a privilege!
Тотилас жив, пока о нем помнят! 🥺❤️
О нем будут долго помнить! Шедевральный !
I saw him at the FEI Games 2010 in Kentucky 😍 I was taken away at what a team these two were. I think i cried i was so overwhelmed at the performance . Unbelievable, what a team ❤🐎
You don't understand anything about horses, you celebrate animal abusing bullshit
I cried of joy while watching this. I have never seen something so beautiful and so moving. It's truly the most amazing thing to ever happen.

maravillosa presentacion equina...una de las mejores que he visto hasta el momento.....
This is an amazing test, both horse and the rider are amazing
Breathtaking, fabulous partnership.
Iedere keer ben ik weer geroerd. Wat een geweldig koppel!
How I am in love with this horse... Could watch him all day!xx

Superb !! Breathtaking!! Hands Down
I always have to cry when I see these two together. Now I have to cry because they were split. Damn!!!!

Just....to Awesome for words. Great Changes, A True Champ.
and hes happy doing it!
This horse and rider were AMAZING! If this horse was forced or unhappy about his job his tail and mouth would show it and they are BOTH quiet!!
I honestly
Want to marry totilas he's just so stunning
Hahaha

@sally01085 Totally agree... This horse shows classic rollkur movement of the front legs!
it all looks so effortless!! :o
love this duo sooo much!!!

Edwar Gal and his stallion Moorlands Totilas are my favorits.
They both did a great job, I wish I could ride like this.
Nicole The Netherlands
I always had to cry seeing Edward and Totilas together. So beautiful!!

Wow, wundervoll. (:
Toller Pferd, megamäßige Vorstellung, perfektes Zusammenspiel von Musik und der Kür *__*
