been living next to an airport my whole life and been noticing this sound the past 5 years or so and always wondered what it was. now i know. thank you
I mean, they never gave you an explanation of why? heheh. you have just seen that it is common. But if you were wonder is bc of the change of power in the engine
Nope. Those "trumpet noises" around the planet have to do with HAARP technology, the audible frequencies that reflect back to the atmosphere on the earth's magnetosphere. It's complex science but it's explainable. And there are multiple HAARP facilities around the earth, even mobile platforms now.
Thank you for solving this mystery! I started hearing these eerie sounds about 6 months ago. I’ve lived near the San Antonio, TX airport for almost 20 yrs.
A plane flew over and I heard a very loud whale noise. I googled it and I'm happy as I recognise the sound as the one I heard. Its hauntingly beautiful
I looked for the cause of this problem, it is because of the combustion chamber! The combustor called Talon X, has a sonic resonance frequency that is nearly achieved while spooling up. This makes the loud sound heared just before spooling up to take off power.
I live in a frequent landing path for BDL and I regularly hear these noises late at night when multiple Breeze flights come in I always wondered why... turns out all those flights are A220s! It's really cool to hear, it does indeed sound like a sky whale.
Not Just A220s, It’s also some A320NEOs/ A321NEOS, that are equipped with PW engines, most however won’t have them as they have CFM LEAPs. Embraer E2’s also have the same engines!
I remember seeing a Breeze a220 fly over my head and about 30 seconds later after it was 2 miles away I heard the most deafening whale noise ever! it literally shook the house.
I live under a flight path and close to airport and been hearing this on occasion. The first time i heard it I thought something major went wrong! So glad I found this 👍🏼
@@benedekhalda-kiss9737 I did not say what made the sound. Just that it sounded the same but louder. But, you are right. The reason for the howl is different.
I just love the A220 such a wonderful little plane, it does make a Wookey sound I think it's because of the space between the fanblades are bigger in the engine.
I live right under the final turn into MCI, and the turning point out of MCI when they reverse the flow, and i hear this howl all the time, and everytime i look up, its a Delta A220. This explains alot😂. I was never deep into aviation, but now i can tell what plane is flying over by the sound. The Leap Max's and A320/1's are the quietest. The CFM 737's sound like chainsaws, and the cargo planes all sound like military fighters screaming for dear life. Idk what kind of engine delta uses on its 757's but they're usually WAY higher than the others as they fly over. My back deck has a full view of the runway lights at night.
i don't even need to live near the airport to hear this, just a plane passing over my house in a distance is enough to make this sound, i always wondered what is was, at first i thought it came from something under the ground
I hear this whale noise almost every day as PW1000G-family powered airframes come in to land at my local airport. Nearly all of them being the from same airline as well. It gets annoying after a while.
Started working at an airport a few months ago that has BCS3's, I always thought it was like, the landing gear or tires squealing like crazy while turning, until I was told it's just a quirk of this engine. Sounds like it belongs in a horror movie or game.
working as a fueler, i can say with full confidence why did embraer have to make engines that make that high pitch sound. it is SO annoying when im working
@@armoredgaming2352 Embraer doesn’t make engines. Pratt and Whitney makes these engines that are on the Embraer E2 and Airbus A220 (Bombardier C-series). It’s the compressor shape that makes the sound. It’s not intentional.
I always get started when I'm at the airport and hear that thing behind the trees, I think it's going to be some 787 or 777-300 and then this mosquito shows up. Not deceiving either lol
FOPP Howl from the CEO A320 was such big deal that people complained it out of existence for newer A320's, so I wonder if people are going to cry about this as well.

* the second best after the A320 autopilot disconnect sound 😅
It soooooo is
CFM56 at full power is also amazing
I get to hear them 5 days a week at work
Not if you live close to an airport..
Sounds like those trumpets in the sky everyone was hearing about 10 years ago. Now we know. It was just Pratt & Whitney testing their new engine.
You mean the hum sound?
Lmao I tell myself that every time I drive by Their factory in middletown CT.
Hahahahah yes exactly creeks from hell they say hahahah

It's Chewbacca's noise 😁😁
It's also called the Vulcan Howl after the UK Vulcan bomber. It made the same sound but louder.
I believe the vulcan howled because of the engine inlets not because of the combustion chamber

Delta uses PW2000 for their 757s. This is the less popular choice as basically everyone else uses RB211s
I spent months wondering what the noise was, I hear it every day. I live near the beach and was starting to believe it was actual whales😂
As a ramp agent, this is the worst possible sound I could ever think off. It penetrates your eardrums and vibrates your skull
sounds horrible from the ground but it’s amazing when it’s up in the air ✈️❤️
It's from the talon X combustor of Pratt & Whitney 1000 series engines. Pretty cool
Whale !
Yes, although interestingly you don't hear it on the A320neo the way you do with the A220.
I was on one last month and i noticed this sound!!
I miss the grind of the CFM56, especially those struggling, maxed out ones on the A340-300.
I sat in 1st class on the a220 and that howl was louder than the takeoff power they produce.

It is strange that all new P&W engines make the whale sound, not only the gear box engines, but also the Gulfstream G500/600 engines without gear box.
Why this plane's models strange sounds?
I always know when one is coming into land without seeing it lol
Those engine whale noise should be on A380 & Beluga🐋
best sound of NG planes
I live 8km from an airport and can hear it sometimes. But I like it 🙂
Bro i’m smoking a joint at a lake and hear a plane flyover making this sound. Thought i was gonna get ambushed by some gladiators
Was it some good shit?
It's the giant low tone whistle!
I remember the BAC-111s of British Caledonian and Dan-Air at Gatwick. They use to have a decent howl on start up. Nice to have a modern equivalent.
Interesting. I didn't know that
I remember when i was a child BAC 111 engine is very loud while approaching the runway

Barking Dog 🐶 noises from the hydraulics and now 🐳 Whale 🐳
A320neo doesn’t seem to howl as loud?
It’s because of the talon x combusters installed in Pratt and Whitney 1000 engines that produces sonic resonance.
okay, to be fair, I can see how this is getting annoying fast^^

Compressor shape or combustion chamber shape? Everytime I come out of idle or go into rev idle, i get that noise.
Combustion shape. Same as a beer bottle when you blow into it. The pressure starts to produce that sound.
So what about the spool up is causing the whale sound?
Hello trumpets

The compressor shape makes that noise. so at a certain pressure it makes that noise. Same as if you blow into a glass bottle
@@ramperryan Wow man! You replied within an hour! That's amazing! Thanks for satisfying my curiosity and enhancing my knowledge by that!
