So the developers didn't have a " thing" for Hersheypark while developing RCT3. Hershey actually helped fund the game in its developments so in turn the developers made sure there was a "Hersheypark" influence in the game. The same goes for RCT2 where there is Six Flags influence. Again during development. Six Flages helped fund the game. Now move on to Planet Coaster. That game had funding from no other, you guessed it! Cedar Fair! Hence alot of the coasters and modles are based off Cedar Fair coasters. It's all a big advertisement really. Your literally play and interacting with advertising while playing these games.
RCT3 is by far the game I've sunk the most hours into. Despite its graphics and coaster building system being outdated compared to Planet Coaster, I do think it still has its own unique charm and niche by letting you make waterparks and implement animal exhibits into your parks, something you cannot do in Planet Coaster, and of course all those more unique coaster types can't be made in Planet Coaster either sadly. Anyway, I'd say the splitting coaster looks the most interesting as far as coasters I'd want to see get made irl.
Certain RCT3 ride reskins DO have real-world counterparts. The "shuttle" corkscrew trains are based off the original Disneyland Paris Space Mountain (before it's conversion to Hyperspace Mountain), the "Dragon" inverted trains are based off the now-defunct Dueling Dragons (Universal IOA), and there could certainly be others if you look hard enough!

I feel as if this game aged a lot better than most people give it credit for. Everyone always talks about RCT2 as if it’s the only good game in the series, but I think 3 holds its own really well and expands on its ideas. It’s also the most forgiving, user friendly, and content focused, which is why it was the one I played the most as a kid and is still my favorite. RCT2 is special for sure, but RCT3 feels even more so, especially since it was from a completely different development team that succeeded at it. It was so influential in fact that Frontier had to buy back the rights to the publishing rights of this specific game from “Atari”, as they want nothing to do with it. I’m very surprised to hear that all of the coaster types used in this game were actually based on something, I always thought that some of them were so outlandish because they wanted to test the game’s physics and engine, which isn’t entirely wrong to think like that by the way since this was a PC game back in 2004, so it was a very ambitious game for its specs and time. It’s a shame that they still haven’t put any of the prototype designs into Planet Coaster yet though. I know they aren’t relevant anymore and won’t be built, but they would still be very cool to use and see. Anyways, I’m very happy that this game was re-released on PC and Switch. @@gustavrshThe graphics don’t look any worse than a game like Super Mario 64, and they had to replicate that look for a much bigger and complex game. In fact, it still actually looks better than that, and you don’t need to look far to see drastic comparisons, you only need to look at the water used in both themselves. Again, I think both aged significantly better than many people give them credit for, especially now with the 90’s 3D graphics art style making a comeback in other games. The blocky polygons and low res textures just gives video games from that era a lot more charm than if they were a lot cleaner otherwise, like Planet Coaster. One can make a case for how RCT2 didn’t exactly age too well with how restrictive some things are either, especially in regards to moving around in special dimensions, but I still think both RCT2 and 3 are classics in their own ways. Still my favorite coaster game. I have made some monstrosities. I have used the sandbox to build an Extended Coaster that used every square in the map and used the Vertical type to make a 1869.68 ft drop. 52.36 Positive g's, -27,27 Negative G's, and an intensity rating of 27.33. It would kill any riders but very fun to make.
amazing video, I had learned a fun fact about the game early on that said that all new types had some real world influence, whether it was concept, prototype, or actual model. I also want to see a video on all the coaster types in Planet Coaster
I know RCT3 doesn't get a lot of love compared to RCT1 and RCT2, but it was to me one of the best in terms of coaster design because there was a decent sized modding community for it which allowed people to make some truly magnificient designs. There were custom supports, custom train sets, and a whole bunch of other cool stuff To me, RCT3 is actually my favourite, even though I discovered the RCT franchise with the first game when I was just a 6 year old kid. Also ironically, the Stormrunner design was actually the preferred choice for re-creating Top Thrill Dragster because of it's very smooth hills
I see SOMEone is a fan of CinemaSins 😉 Appreciate the shout-out to Long Island! I never got into this game for some reason, unlike the first 2. I think I was just really getting into FPS games at the time; I didn't even get a Nintendo console between GameCube and Switch, and barely played GameCube. Super informative video, thanks for all the research.
Liked and subscribed, such a well put together video and I learnt so much and didn't intend to learn anything interesting... Wow! Thank you for putting this all together, it's making me want to download it again and re-live childhood memories.
I'm one of the few "lucky" people that have ridden the tower coaster. It's first fair was in Amsterdam in 2001 and it's last was in 2003 (only traveled in the Netherlands) It break during the ball part of the drop, it braked during the drop and after the loop. It was more broken down than running I heard it is still somewhere opperating It was called cool&fresh
Thank you! I had pronounced it incorrectly up until I finally visited the park when I was 15. Had never heard anyone say it before then, only read the name in books!
Alien 3 slander in the first 12 seconds of the video :( I can't escape it, that movie was good and people are just disappointed it was more like Alien than Aliens. Oh also yeah roller coasters and stuff great video as always yes yes👍
There's only one trilogy that I know that wasn't hit by the Curse of the Threequel, and that's the BttF Trilogy. god DAMN, those movies just got better and better.
I think it would be fantastic to have a real coaster with a thrill lift *and* a rotating tower! Imagine how over the top that would be, and how complex the layout 😂
Atari bought the rights to use Hershey products in their game. That’s why there are so many Hershey references such as Storm Runner and even the Hershey kiss lamps you see in the real life town in RCT3!
Everyone credits RMC with being the first to develop the "single rail" coaster to its magnitude. Maybe the serphant coaster concept was one of their inspirations.
First, thank you for this follow-up! Second, I don't see that thrill lift element being physically _possible_ in reality, at least with as long of a track as it has in the game...
I mean... all this video showed me was, how much more content you got back then for your 20-30€ expansion pack... And Today... well, we got Coaster Planet and Zoo Planet. These games could have easily been added together and form the next big expansion for planet coaster. There will be a Planet Splash or something in the Future, I guess!
Yeah frontier really milked the hell out of those games. There aren't any unique prototype coasters in PlanetCo either, except for the T-rex model. Would have loved to see an axis coaster or a surf coaster in the game

I have used the sandbox to build an Extended Coaster that used every square in the map and used the Vertical type to make a 1869.68 ft drop. 52.36 Positive g's, -27,27 Negative G's, and an intensity rating of 27.33. It would kill any riders but very fun to make.
I put god knows how many hours into RCT3 as a kid, and I don’t care if it’s not quite as polished as the prior 2D isometric games, I still love it🥰
Same here! I've actually probably put in more hours overall into RCT3 than RCT2
Love the cinema sins inspired intro
Just discovered this channel and it's giving me EVERYTHING
Really glad you did!
amazing video, I had learned a fun fact about the game early on that said that all new types had some real world influence, whether it was concept, prototype, or actual model. I also want to see a video on all the coaster types in Planet Coaster
I wish Frontier would add all these obscure coaster types to Planet Coaster. Some of the fun in RTC 3 was all the weird and wacky coaster types!
Truly fantastic video, thank you so much for making it!
Of course! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Also ironically, the Stormrunner design was actually the preferred choice for re-creating Top Thrill Dragster because of it's very smooth hills
seriusly I love the pipeline coaster in rct3 because it looks awesome and it does a true barrel roll
such a shame that the rotating tower coaster has little to no information about it, definitely the most interesting in my opinion
The best thing about RCT3 was how the developer Frontier was also a rock band
7:34 " Great news for any mini suspended coaster fans out there" I feel personally called out here xD
That Rotating Tower Coaster and the Splitting Coaster would be awesome in real life
They look interesting, but I think maintenance would be a nightmare with these coaster types...
I see SOMEone is a fan of CinemaSins 😉
Appreciate the shout-out to Long Island!
I never got into this game for some reason, unlike the first 2. I think I was just really getting into FPS games at the time; I didn't even get a Nintendo console between GameCube and Switch, and barely played GameCube.
Super informative video, thanks for all the research.
That dueling alpine coaster is at my home park in Belgium, I even used to work there for like 2 days
That's awesome! Looks like a really unique, interesting ride
So happy UA-cam blessed my feed with your videos
I'm glad too! Thanks for coming by
Liked and subscribed, such a well put together video and I learnt so much and didn't intend to learn anything interesting... Wow! Thank you for putting this all together, it's making me want to download it again and re-live childhood memories.
Thanks so much! Definitely suggest re-visiting it, had a lot of fun making the parks seen in the video. Brought back a ton of memories
Wasn't there an indoor drifting coaster in Dubai?
This game has so much nostalgia to me, despite its flaws I still love it
I can't imagine how much time you put into research for this one! Nice!
Thank you! Yes this script took a while to write lol
I'm one of the few "lucky" people that have ridden the tower coaster.
It's first fair was in Amsterdam in 2001 and it's last was in 2003 (only traveled in the Netherlands)
It break during the ball part of the drop, it braked during the drop and after the loop.
It was more broken down than running
I heard it is still somewhere opperating
It was called cool&fresh
Very cool! Definitely right to put “lucky” in quotations. Cool & Fresh is an excellent name though, I’ll give it that
@@JNattyBoi yeah everything around the ride was good. How it looked, the name and presentation. Just the ride it self was bad
It’s at a (currently) closed park in Turkey and is called Migfer.
oh my gwad you are simply amazing
Nice documentary!
Thank you!
Amazing video man, great work!
Thanks so much!
I wanna see that splitting coaster in real life. Sucks it never saw the light of day.
Keep up with the great content, love all the research you do to make your videos!!
Thanks so much!
Nice video. I also appreciate that you pronounced knoebels correctly!
Thank you! I had pronounced it incorrectly up until I finally visited the park when I was 15. Had never heard anyone say it before then, only read the name in books!
Wow I the biggest surprise from this video for me was the fact that rct3 was developed by frontier! Great as always
Sad planet coaster doesn't include such unique rides...
I was hoping planet coaster would add a weird coaster dlc which included nothing but strange coaster concepts which never came to fruition.
@@wills1437 yes would be awesome.. also we need a lot more like common ones😂
congrats on 1K Subs My Man Keep Up The Good Work !!!
Hey thanks so much! Appreciate the support
RCT3 is one of the best simulator games ever
A long with rct1 and rct2 yes!
Alien 3 slander in the first 12 seconds of the video :( I can't escape it, that movie was good and people are just disappointed it was more like Alien than Aliens.
Oh also yeah roller coasters and stuff great video as always yes yes👍
I believe that a Giant Flume is located in the Six Flag parc in Canada, Quebec Montreal. It is called Splash. :)
There's only one trilogy that I know that wasn't hit by the Curse of the Threequel, and that's the BttF Trilogy. god DAMN, those movies just got better and better.
This game is heavily underrated.
Oh, I'd absolutely want to try out a rotating tower coaster if one were ever built.
I think it would be fantastic to have a real coaster with a thrill lift *and* a rotating tower!
Imagine how over the top that would be, and how complex the layout 😂
Nice video! Although you should’ve also done watersides in RCT3, maybe in other video?
Thanks! Perhaps in another video I’ll tackle the slides/water rides
@@JNattyBoi Thanks for noticing! Wasn’t thinking about water rides, perhaps flat rides could also be mentioned? (That might be too much though)
Instantly got hit by a tsunami of nolstalgia when the video started and the main theme played
I forgot how memorable the soundtrack was until I started making this video, so many nostalgic songs on there
Awesome video can’t wait to see more !!
Atari bought the rights to use Hershey products in their game. That’s why there are so many Hershey references such as Storm Runner and even the Hershey kiss lamps you see in the real life town in RCT3!
Reason perilous plunge was shut down: due to a woman falling off of the ride and dying
Everyone credits RMC with being the first to develop the "single rail" coaster to its magnitude. Maybe the serphant coaster concept was one of their inspirations.
True! I didn't make that connection but you're right, the Cobra-1 model looks like a sad, portable version of the RMC T-Rex model
I just wanna say I love the RCT3 OST so much
First, thank you for this follow-up! Second, I don't see that thrill lift element being physically _possible_ in reality, at least with as long of a track as it has in the game...
The track design on the RCT3 Inverted wild mouse is based on Afterburner's track design though
Omg the music just triggered me back to a younger time
In my life
Well done video you always make great content and you deserve more subs
Hey thanks so much!
Great video! Thanks for taking my suggestion!
Can you do two videos on the origin of the non-coaster rides in RCT Classic and RCT3?
Decinitely thinking about doing videos like that in the future!
The first coaster does exist, it's called the Wild Mouse. Also goes by the name Crazy Mouse.
shame planet coaster doesn't have as much weird coasters as RCT3 does
This game has a crazy good OST!
It really does! It was tough deciding what songs to include in the video, there are so many good ones
This is really interesting information! Thank you for researching and compiling all of this!
I cannot believe this game (it was literally my number 1 CHILDHOOD GAME) is approaching 18 years old O.o
I mean... all this video showed me was, how much more content you got back then for your 20-30€ expansion pack...
I couldn’t imagine the Zac Spin having a launch
Great video!
Thank you!
This is great! Could you also make an every track or flat ride in real life?
Is that comic sans in the ‘Frequent Faller’ promo image at 10:49 ??
Hahaha I think you're right! That's amazing
you should do one of these for flat rides :)
Vekoma is actually making a new version of the tilt coaster, so there is still hopes for them making an elevator version!
That would be a sick sight to see
Iirc, the Steel Spinning coaster also had cars with inward-facing seats found on Gerstlauer spinners.
