    Fun fact: 3D printing (you know, that fancy space-agey sometimes DIY stuff) _may_ help with the Wonder Washer's water woes. If you can figure out how to create a seal to be made with a flexible filament you can have it printed and sent to your door, so you slip it on and never worry about overflow again.
    *Maybe.*

    Wonder Washer: The only reason you actually buy this is if you live in a dorm with no access to laundry. Pretty much what happened to me 25 years ago and I wish this thing exist back then because it's hard to spend time to do laundry with hectic high school schedule.
    Washing Wand: The moron who invented this thought seeing Asian women whacking laundry with a two by four on the riverside is the best thing for laundry.
    Clothes drying hanger: You mean SHOES drying hanger? I actually want it. I own a lot of shoes and I live in a wet city and any gadget that can help dry my shoes is a okay for me.
    Electric Drying Rack: Why not just let them dry naturally? I mean the test ended up with 180 minutes (3 hours) to dry multiple clothing, pretty much the same as natural drying time. Go get a damn steamer that thing actually way more useful.

    As someone who hand washed clothes, for a family of three, for well over a year, I can tell you the only one that is probably any real use is that plunger like device: Agitating clothes by hand, is not only difficult, but tears up/dries out, the skin of your hands.. Come to think of it, that drying bag, too, if you don't have much to do, at once. **Incoming tips for anyone stuck in a position to hand wash clothing.**
    Otherwise, properly soaking clothes, and periodically agitating, is what I found most effective. Multiple rinses to ensure you get the soap out, otherwise, it causes rough or oily-like spots, in the clothing.
    Wringing every last drop of water out, you possible can, is a necessity; rubber gloves can help protect your hands from being scraped to hell and back, but will inevitably rip if you're doing it right. I do mean, every drop you can muscle out without ripping your clothes. It is exhausting and time consuming.
    Air drying isn't what most people think; you can't just hang you clothes in open air; it requires some amount of heat. I had a directional space heater, and a large piece of cardboard, that essentially created an open topped box around my clothing drying rack, or any improvised rack I used. (did I mention I had no choice but to dry everything indoors?). Without heat, and (relatively) quick drying, clothes tend to either shrink back irregularly, or not at all. This is also why it's important to wring the clothes with the might of fucking Thor.
    Another drying tip: do not air dry shirts on a hanger as he did, unless you like your shirt shoulders stretching out.
    Target sells pretty sturdy, standing, folding, drying racks. Would recommend. As I recall, only about $15-$20.

    • @blubablubafasel
      @blubablubafasel 5 років тому +6

      I don't know what you are doing that your clothes shrink back irregularly or whatever when air drying but we exclusively air dry all our stuff just hanging it in the living room or where ever there's space for the rack and never had any problem with that. It takes 1-2 days until everything's dry but that isn't an issue at all.

    • @MortyKaiShalom
      @MortyKaiShalom 5 років тому +3

      @@blubablubafasel That's interesting. Even during the CA drought summer seat, and our apartment sat at 85F all day long (our insulation and A/C were... let's say old), I sometimes still had an issue with irregular shrinking. In fact, in the winter, I had to start ironing all the clothes after wringing them out, just to get things relatively normal, again. Perhaps, it's how I was wringing them out? Maybe something in our water? am intrigued.

    And this is why I will stick to my little antique 1946 HandyHott with it's matching wringer and my antique National glass washboard for the stubborn stains. The washboard was a hand-me-down, the washer I bought for $6 on auction, and the matching wringer I found to be a necessity to save my hands from all that wringing, but it took some hunting to track down and eventually cost $80. So when I got stuck in a flat with no washer and dryer, it saved me a LOT of trouble and money! Those little HandyHott's are going for around $100 typically when you can find them online, and I've never seen one that included the wringer, but there's a reason that they still sell for so much. They actually work great and have a much bigger capacity than all these modern plastic iterations of countertop washers. They're also completely metal, not a plastic piece in sight! While they're only safe to run through a GFCI outlet due to the old electrical design, they will likely keep going for many, many years to come because they were so well made. Yay for them predating that industry's planned obsolescence! It also only takes 90watts of power to run it, so you could use a cheap car inverter and car battery if need be! Read: great for camping, too!

    While researching solar food dehydration I learned that drying is less about heat and more about air movement.
    Case in point, I don't have a dryer but I've got three clothes lines inside and a box fan. Not sure how long it actually takes to dry everything as I usually just let it run over night, but before I added the fan my clothes would get slightly musty smelling and take over a day to dry, not any more.
    Towels dry completely too, and I've got the biggest fluffiest towels I could find at walmart!

    Hotel rooms are always very dry. I often use different tricks to hydrate the rooms and one of them is to give a quick wash to a worn piece of clothing and hanging it above the air conditioner or in front of heat sources. It would be easier for me to bring along a humidifier but when you are off on an adventure you tend to forget things like this.
