This game is very underrated, went down on people's noses. It could have went better with a good marketing.
I just bought this and i would this game is more innovative than COD or Battlefront and has more content than those two combined.

Remember Alien Swarm? That game was fucking incredible. Nice to see that it's ideas and brutal nature were inspiration for other games.
It might seem there was a lot of "Day 1 DLC" but this game originally came out on PS4/PS3 (and vita as well I think) early this year. So the DLC was just released over time. By the time it made it over to PC, they just had been given enough time after development to do DLC.
RFC3514 I get that, I was just pointing out since he made no mention of it, this game isn't brand new. They didn't spend development time working on DLC. But I get what you mean.
Just curious as a developer myself (and trying to balance our budget as I'm writing this) what would you consider "required"? In our case we're making a 2D survival game. It's too early to say what will be DLC if we even do it but I would like to do it "correctly" if we do end up doing so.

Development time would be the time the game was being made. The DLC wasn't made during that stage, it was made after.

No it couldn't. Creating any content cost money, usually lots of it. If you're putting it out as a free update your costing yourself money and it isn't a matter of greed, if you don't bring in enough to pay your bills people loose their jobs and people go hungry. Sure you might increase the value of your game if you add free updates but the only people who are going to notice are those already playing and that doesn't bring you in any extra income.

That's not how game development, or business in general works. You have a set amount of funding and you can't just go and "hire more people" where would that money come from? The only reason this game exist is because Sony funded part of the development (so that the console had an exclusive for a few months) and then they used some of their own money, likely from their profit from PS sales, to develop a PC port.

Alright you start making sense here. My follow up to that is say for example, more of something. Like if a game is mainly about exploring and discovering things a "core" feature would be maps to explore. So would you consider adding news maps as DLC being good or bad DLC?
RFC3514 Apologies, that wasn't meant to be a jab at you. I misunderstood where you were coming from. (Took you as one of those, "Give me everything for free because I bought the game" kind of people) Your examples of Valve, CD Project Red, and others are good examples. Using free content to keep people interested in the game so that they'll eventually buy the paid content. Like I said, misunderstood your point.
As for the artist either sitting around or working on DLC, I guess I was just being stuck on my indie/broke mindset. I'm used to working on my own budget where I often do have to let people go on break for awhile and bring them back on later. Only recently got to a point where we have an actual budget from investors. So that was just a stupid statement on my end for not thinking of how a more established studio would handle things.

Just as a reminder, this game was nearly a year old when it released on steam, as it was on PS3, PS4 and Vita. All the dlc that is "day 1" on steam was released overtime on consoles to fund the development of the free expansions that the PC version comes with, as well as maintenance costs for the servers.
I know right?,
One thing worth mentioning:
This game is all about teamwork, and it has some really nice mechanics to reward it.
E.g. one of the weapons is a big rocket launcher that you need against tough targets.
You can operate it all alone, but then reloading it takes a really long time. But you also can give the supply of rockets to a team mate, and he can then just instantly reload that rocket launcher by pushing a new rocket into the launcher tube that you still have on your shoulder.
Another such thing is the resupply pack. One team mate can specialize as an ammo carrier who can lug additional ammo packs around. In order to resupply ammo you then just walk up to him and grab it from his backpack instead of having to call down an ammo drop.
Those teamwork things enhance your team's effectiveness quite a lot and are very rewarding when you pull them off.
With regard to the last of us as so many people are asking :)
It's been a very busy 3 months when you look at all the big games I have reviewed and they have got to take priority over TLOU as that is a very old game and people want to know about the new ones. However the rush is now subsiding I only have a few more to do before I take a nice break over Christmas and new year, during that time I hope to play TLOU up to a point that is worthy of a review so I plan of releasing it in January.

You should enjoy it Mack, once you get over using a controller, it's not in first person and is on a console ;) It's quite linear too, so the odds of you liking it are slim - though I think this game will be an exception.
You haven't reviewed a zombie survival game in a while, what's going on? last one was H1Z1 I think, which was piss funny. Any chance you can revisit that game and Day Z perhaps? For old time sake...
Btw you should've given Dying Light more of a chance and listen to your pal, who said he enjoyed it too. There's a big dlc addition in Feb, so we'll see if you have a change of heart then...
im glad you loved the game, it's really addictively fun! This thing is that the base game came out forst, then dlcs here and there months after. ALSO they gave everyone free dlc in the form of new enemies, bosses, etc ever since the base game came out!
+Worth A Buy Mack, I played this a ton. My serious recommendation for your next DLC is the Ranger. The cosmetics are probably the best in-game, and the humblebee drone, once fully upgraded, shows you where all the samples are on the map, reducing the upgrade time considerably. Also suggest Pilot and vehicle packs. The obsidian mech is superb.
+Grailer Diablo Almost every new early access survival game seems to be the rage on steam. It really depends if you want another game that will be in development for a long long time with adding stuff over time but might never get released.
Reign of Kings got released today or yesterday. Just like the previous game of the same developer another survival game and again they didn't fix the majority of the bugs and just released it way to early as it's clearly not the game they promised it would be. With Surival games, especially when they are multiplayer only i would say it's not worth a buy till later on or wait to see if it ever gets released. But what i seen so far on youtube it doesn't seem like anything special compared to all the other likewise games.

I've played this game for ages, but backed track to check out reviews, I agree the DLC's are a little sneaky, I'm ok with DLC's that give you better weapons, but those snow boots are a bit of a slap in the face, you cannot function very well on snow maps without them (unless you jet pack around) not a huge fee to get them, but feels a bit cheap
My first thought for this was, "Friendly fire would be brutal in this." And then you mentioned the turrets and drop pods. I assume that means firing with a player in your LoS is ff too. Sounds awesome man.
Just to clarify:the game was released in march for the consoles,after that arrowhead started developing,releasing the dlcs and only now they ported to PC.So that means this isn't "day 1 dlc" game type.

Well, friendly fire was hilarious in Magicka - use the thunderstrike or w/e - it aims at closest enemy .... or ally :D
And then you have to press combo to revive them - and you keep missing - and enemies are coming still :D

Yea mate I enjoyed a shit load of fun (60+ hrs) on PS4 helldivers, the sense of true cooperation when the team (consisting of random people from different parts of the world) packs their loadouts and heads into the battlefield with divided roles, looking out for the teammates etc; it's great! needless to say the brutality of it all haha

reminds me of the some of the co op custom warcraft 3 maps where you went around as a group of marines with different abilities and classes. Looks good, I have way too many games to finish but as a lan game with friends this would be really good.
Couldn't agree more. This game is amazing, not to mention that in my 40 hours or so playing, I've found the community to be pretty decent.
This looks like an incredibly *fun* game. I'm glad it's finally come to the PC.

I feel like I should point this out as it wasn't in the video; this was released on ps4 a while ago so the dlc is not actually all day 1 dlc as it has been coming out over time for ps4 and you also get the 3 expansion packs in the base copy on steam that were added for the console version. I would highly recommend anyone to simply buy the deluxe edition on steam if you want this game because it is priced fairly and at good value.

To it's credit, it didn't have Day-1 DLC when it originally released on PS4/Vita. All those packs came out over a few months later.
You should try earth defence 4.1. lived the old ones as it's just mental when you have 100 enemies after you n your knocking the city down trying to win. graphically n story wise I would wait for a sale but the fun factor with a friend is amazing

DLC's are basically sidegrades, to add more variety into the game. I bought the base game and this is the best game I played this year so far even without any DLC. I only bought 1 commando pack, just for the cosmetic stuff (helmet/armor/cape).
yo Mack you should check out supreme Commander forged alliance if you want to play a game with huge strategic potential. defiantly worth a look if your into hardcore brutality and strategy

They aren't day one.
The game was out for a while on PS4, PS3 and Vita before the DLCs dropped. They just transferred over to PC when it came out there a year later.

It's about time we had a good, modern isometric shooter. The latest I can think of is the Alien Breed sequels, which are meh compared to this.

I payed 30 euros to buy the deluxe version of the game. I wasn't really sure if it's worth it but I took the risk. Never looked back, the game is really fun. Just be sure to play it with friends and not solo because you won't get back your money's worth.
FYI, if you do ignore the DLCs the game is perfectly playable as they only add DIFFERENT equipment to the mix not overpowered items like other useless DLCs which totally wreck a game's balance.

This looks interesting, not the kind of thing I'd usually play, but there is a first for everything. Is there any kind of meaningful single player element? I really don't like DLC, so it is immediately off putting to see so much on day one, but you do make a fair point about the game being cheap to begin with.

Payday 2 has 29 purchaseable dlcs. It all costs 60 or 70 pounds or something but the base game is like 10% of the game and it costs like 15-20 pounds.

is this game cross platform online like rocket league. such as pc players playing with ps4 players.
+dylan jiwa when you go into Multiplayer. you will be with other PC players. but the community campaign is cross platform. and what i mean by that is. their is a main world for each faction. humans included. their is 3 sections. with different zones that have 12 planets, this is actually 13 planets. 13th being boss, but it cost personal influence to do. to move to a different zone the community has to get enough influence to complete that zone. but, the community can fail as well and get pushed back to home planet(super earth). hope this helps.

Love this game!! Starting playing again (didn't play any games), first downloaded this almost a year ago. Got almost all the packs and it's well worth it, it's so much fun and so incredibly hard! Fuck this game is hard, but that's a good thing, makes it challenging. Check it out!
