Giethoorn (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɣitɦoːrn]) is a village in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is located in the municipality of Steenwijkerland, about 5 km southwest of Steenwijk. Giethoorn is often referred to as 'Little Venice'.
Giethoorn used to be a pedestrian precinct, but nowadays exceptions are made. It became locally famous, especially after 1958, when the Dutch film maker Bert Haanstra made his famous comedy Fanfare there. In the old part of the village, there were no roads (though a cycling path was eventually added), and all transport was done by water over one of the many canals. The lakes in Giethoorn were formed by peat unearthing.
Giethoorn was a separate municipality until 1973, when it became part of Brederwiede.
Tourism
Tourism has had a relatively small influence on the old traditional town. The village, still only fully accessible by boat, is one of several places commonly known as the Venice of the North or Venice of the Netherlands. Giethoorn has over 180 bridges.
Giethoorn is a very popular attraction among Chinese tourists. The village of only 2620 inhabitants sees between 150,000 and 200,000 Chinese tourists every year.
Monopoly Here & Now
The village of Giethoorn fended off competition from some 182 contenders across the world to achieve a place on the board of the new international edition of Monopoly (the locals are very proud of this achievement). An online campaign led by local Village Marketeer Giethoorn.com resulted in enough votes to obtain spot number 21 on the special edition.

Some houses are for sale, but the condition is you have to live there to buy the thatched-roof house, I live in Amsterdam and I cannot buy it. About half a millions € depends on size and maintenance. Wait until you get there in the summer, all hell breaks loose, you don't need an engine on your boat, just put a big Tugboat at the back to push and you will be squashed out of the canal like a stuffed sausage.
I've got friends living over there, they are not amused by the number of tourist that are coming there in the summer, no more privacy or tranquility, one big line of small boats, so many that you could walk over from beginning till the end.

I would love to live here in this dreamy , watery place . I would really be interested in what the crime rate there is ... it's got to be virtually non-existent .
With so many tourists I would say pickpocketing is probably a thing, but you are right in the sense that there is less stress, so no division, no riots, no anarchy.
I would call it a peaceful and heavenly place, but the tourism there kind of ruins that vibe. If you ever visit go out before 5am ( In the summer ), it can be a magical place when the sun rises with just you and the birds singing. Both humbling and empowering.
The camera is not only at the wrong angle but not the best settings and it's out of focus.Also you have glaring white skies on top which makes the foreground look too dark.So even though it's recorded in 4 k it's blurry.
Another day and time with better camera setting would have looked much better.

good day people, 3 days ago there was discrimination in giethoorn with a resident who is not Dutch. I don't recommend a single tourist to come to Giethoorn anymore. Because every inhabitant of Giethoorn has discriminatory behaviour.

Giethoorn is NOT in the provine of (North or South) holland, so therefore calling it Venice of "holland" is simply idiotic.

Ik weet niet wie in jou geval "we" is, maar holland is nooit de naam geweest van ons land, Nederland is wel de naam, zowel geweest, als nog steeds. Dit soor misdirectie en incorrecte info maakt het voor niet nederlanders moeilijk om het correcte verschil te leren, Friesland heeft geen ene reet te maken met holland.
