Hello everyone..welcome back to our channel!!! Til now struggle prn ako sa pag alaga ng jade plants. Tag ulan kc nung bumili ako. Bcoz of ur vlog today...nabuhayan n naman ako ng pag asa. Hope this time...maging successfull n sya. Thans msKen!!!
Just saw your video. Interesting approach nga..to grow in water. They do look good, but I am worried there are no real roots showing. The color of the base is not healthy either, but it is good to know you do frequent water changes. I do have somewhat similar succulent experiments, but what I do is use water gel beads, that way the water gel allows air flow at the root zone. Then I just add water again once I see the beads deflate so I can make them plump again. Another way is to go semi hydro..you can use just clay rocks as media and make a container with two side holes so once water is poured in, excess water escapes and keeps a reservoir below which the roots can access as needed. I think I do agree they do grow better in the cooler highland areas of Pinas..in my area, my location is not Pinas, but it thrives here during our mild winter season, where we get intermittent rains too. And it is true, it can stand cold temperatures down to 30F (-1 Celsius) as long as it is kept drier or gets good ventilation and good sun the day after. As with many succulents, grower must use well draining soil and containers with drainage. So I would strongly suggest add pumice to the soil. Jade plants have such shallow and small root mass, so do not use too big containers right away. I do find interesting you can grow the plant in water. I think you do have to clarify too what is the prevailing daytime and overnight temperature in your growing area. Also explain too where do you position the plant. ..sayang naman kasi..baka akala nang newbies..ganun kasimple yun..it is not. Lalo na kapag tag ulan na sa Pnas..usually extreme high humidity takes its toll on jade plants that is why it is challenging to grow. I do like your water approach..and remember what the Benguet growers told you as well, they also suffer jade growing issues. So please be very careful when you share your growing tips..always specify growing conditions ..like temperature, light exposure and protection given during rainy events. Here in the US with the distinct 4 seasons..areas with snow has no choice but bring them indoors to overwinter..or some just choose to grow them indoors but near their brightest and warmest window. My area is thankfully mild winter area..no snow but gets too dry and hot for 6 to 7 months no rain..so I have to step up watering during the dry months..then during late Fall to early Spring, it is in Mother Nature's hand..they get all the intermittent rain and cold temps. The coldest they experienced here was 22F (-5 Celsius) at these temps they turn reddish hues and to be honest it is survival of the fittest at this stage. If not for the sunny day after, many succulents of mine whether jade or not will die. Anyhow, just sharing here my growing experience, so you would undestand why I want you to be more detailed when you suggest tips. Keep up with the good work and happy growing. I do wish I can share to you my Jade plants photo they are in blooming phase right now..probably blooms in display by January. Just to add..during our very long hot and dry months, it is literally zero rain here..our relative humidity levels outdoors falls down to 30% to 0% that is how dry we go here. Our temperature goes all the way high at that time 95F to 100F or more ( 33 Celsius to 37Celsius and higher) and our daytime length is very long over 12 hours, with sunset often at 8 pm..it shortens when the seasons change. Jade plants endures this excessive dry heat conditions very well, even in direct sun. Many other succulents will go dormant when it is this excessively hot...think desert heat. Jades endures well especially if they are watered thoroughly once a week or maybe 2x a week depending on the heat forecast. So for Pinas weather, make sure soil used is cacti mix, with more pumice to give good air circulation at the root zone. If you are rooting a cutting, position it first in part sun/shade to lessen stress..once roots show, then repot and again allow just one more week to acclimate to the new set up..then that is the time to water it well and allow bright light sun exposure. Give it time..be patient. Patience is your friend. If your weather forecast already says torrential rains, better bring the plant indoors but near a window. Our Pinas rains is way too excessive, especially for new young succulents.
