The western end of this certainly does get traffic from southbound on Connaught during the morning rush hour. That traffic then turns right and then left onto Quinpool. They are avoiding the lights and associated congestion at the Connaught and Quinpool intersection. I would like to see some kind of traffic calming on Oak, though I suspect that nothing less than closing Oak to Connaught for cars, or a diagonal diverter on Oak and Poplar (to force traffic to turn left onto Poplar from Oak) will really address that problem. This is my walking and cycling gateway to the city and I quite enjoy how relatively quiet it is when compared with Connaught, Chebucto and Quinpool. I just wish that there was some significant attempt to improve transit and of course, connectivity of cycling routes.
I like this bikeway but my vision is far more grand. The outside (right or '#2') lanes on Quinpool from Robie to Connaught are basically just for parking most of the day. And when cars aren't parked there, they barely move enough traffic to justify their existence. I envision a protected bike lane sandwiched between the existing sidewalk and a dedicated lane of parking. That way, cyclists are happy and safe, drivers have parking and pedestrians are unaffected. Of course a western connection to something would eventually have to be implemented. Also, ban cars from turning left on Quinpool at all times.

Ah, I see. I'm only occasionally on the bikeway at peak morning rush hour. Thanks!
