Your granddaughter is so very lovely 💜 I'll probably be reading Jennifer Saint's series, but maybe not now. I'm concentrating on my own bookshelves ! I read several big books recently but then, I bought other books, so...
Your Claudia Piñeiro project sounds so fun! What a great idea. East of Eden has been on my TBR for about as long as I’ve had a TBR. 😂 I need to get to it - I loved your review of it, Kim. 😊
So, I dusted off my copy of Vanity Fair and my sister said, “how will you find time to read that and crochet!” Well, I downloaded it on audio and now I’m knee deep, not in Vanity Fair, but the world of Agatha Christie!❤️ East of Eden is a favorite of mine. I read it the first time with the Oprah Winfrey book club. Definitely one I hope to reread. Great video!
I just read Elektra by Jennifer Saint and I did enjoy that one. I also read Circe by Madeline Miller and that’s one I loved. Don’t you just love fall? Your grandbaby is the cutest 😊
Oh my goodness your granddaughter is cute 🥰. I have so much sympathy with having to redo the video. A couple of weeks ago I made a 25 minute video and the mic turned itself off after 30 seconds. I still haven’t remade it. Last night I was 20 mins in when a really loud fireworks party started in a neighbouring garden. I have remade that one 😂. Great book choices and I am loving Pineiro who I had never read before
Your enthusiasm for EoE is very much appreciated. I will be tackling it as a first time reread since I was about 16, 43 years ago, and I have continued to claim it as my favorite book. I was going to reread it last year, but failed. Remember December seems like the push I need to see if it holds up all these year later. Equally excited and terrified. Most of my life I’ve also used the name Caleb Trask whenever I want to be more anonymous, or on social media. He has always broken my heart as a character.
East of Eden made for such a good book club read, especially because my book club is all ladies from church. I’m interested to hear your thoughts on Invisible Man.
Crunchy leaves and a cutie! Two books this month with throughly bad female characters but what a joy they both are to read! Are we still reading Fire in the City in December Kim? If you don’t fancy it then we can totally move it, no worries here.
I enjoyed the little clip of your granddaughter playing with the leaves. It perfectly embodies fall in New England. I look forward to reading East of Eden and Grapes of Wrath. I certainly understand not putting oneself on a book buying ban as in my experience it usually does something to me mentally and I end up buying more in the end. I will try to read my shelves merely because I have so many good books sitting there waiting for me and competing for my attention. Sorry I can't say anything in a short and concise way! Right now finishing up Lonesome Dove with the life on books patreon group and will be starting Song of Solomon. I have to put the events I want to participate in a lottery for myself and just pick one out! There are so many wonderful reading events going on all at once.
_East of Eden_ is a long-term resident in my TBR shelf. _Vanity Fair_ too. I think you’ve talked me out of the one, and heightened my excitement for the other.
You keep reminding me of my unread Vanity Fair that I've had since my 20s! I too would get impatient with the filler. I read Invisible Man several years ago when my daughter was reading it in high school and I realized I'd never read it. It was powerful and strange; looking forward to your thoughts. I'm really enjoying our group reading project already! Loved the outro footage of fall family frolics!
I'm currently reading The Talisman by Stephen King & Peter Straub, Rubicon: The Triumph and Tragedy of the Roman Empire by: Tom Holland, Ulysses by James Joyce, and The Framley Parsonage by Anthony Trollop. I just finished John Adams by: David McCullough and loved it.
Thanks for the nudge Kim. I’ve FOREVER been meaning to read the rest of Claudia Piñeiro’s books after the brilliant Elena Knows, so I’m going to pick up All Yours and read it in the next two weeks. Luckily all her books are available on my online e-book lending library.🎉
I look forward to hearing how you and Gareth get along with Invisible Man. I read it this year and it is seared into my memory. It's one I want to reread eventually. East of Eden has been one of those books that I've always wanted to get to. Yay for Pineiro!
Your granddaughter is delightful😊 I put myself on a book buying ban at the beginning of this year as I was determined to only read books already on my shelves, no points for guessing how that went!
I've always enjoyed the Minotaur story. The Roman poet Catallus wrote a beautiful poem "Ariadne" which is likely available someplace online.Recommend it. Didn't know about this book. Jorge Luis Borges wrote a one page story told from the pov of Ariadne's doomed brother. Julio Cortazar wrote a play about him, too. I think in English it's called The Kings.
East of Eden has been on my tbr for so long so I was glad to hear your recommendation. Currently reading across the world - Canadian writer, Anne Michael's 'Held', such wonderful lyrical writing, then Australian writer Charlotte Wood's 'Stoneyard Devotional' and Americna writer CJ Hauser's memoir and essays 'The Crane Wife'. I look forward to hearing how you enjoy the Pinero project.
I so agree with you about Steinbeck in general and East of Eden in particular. I first read it for a book club that I was in and enjoyed it so much that when I finished it, I immediately re-read it, (Also because there is so much to unpack for discussion, I didn't want to mis anything,) Love your videos thank you for being here.
I'm still reading Frankenstein and The SS of Irregular Witches. Next will start Under the Banner of Heaven f or Non-fiction November. Now I want to read Invisible Man b/c 2 of my fave Booktubers are reading it. I just cleaned off an old cd shelf, and the shelves that no longer hold cd's are converted to bookshelves. 🙂📚
Lovely video, Kim. I think that I would like to read Ariadne. That sounds really good. I also adore East of Eden. That is one I definitely need to re-read sometime soon. You will have such a wonderful time with your buddy read with Gareth. He is delightful. I'm with you about not cutting off book-buying. I could definitely do more to read from my shelves, but I would go into a major depressive episode, I believe, if I stopped bringing new books into my house. Books are among the very few things that I really do buy for myself. Thank you, my friend, for the lovely things that you said about me. Please know how much I treasure you and our friendship.
I have added the Natalie Haynes book to my list. Thank you for the suggestion! What is the Penguin Greek Myths book on the bookshelf behind you? What a little cutie she is!
