So funny how much I needed the helmet talk. I knocked my noggin a month back and really haven’t told anyone because of the criticism I knew I would get for not wearing a helmet. This week I finally got back on my board I’ve been riding extremely scared. Which is affecting my riding and now I’m falling on tricks I’ve done a thousand times. So... look good feel good play good. I wear a helmet, but know it won't stop a concussion. I have gotten so many concussions (15+ minor and major) I do my best to keep up with staying healthy mentally and physically. Very inspiring to hear you heavy hitters dig into the subject. Thanks for opening up and keeping it real.

I wear a helmet too. Although it doesn’t prevent concussions, it does help prevent TBI. I’ll take a concussion over a TBI any day. But to each their own.

I love the point about reading and journaling everyday. I open Duolingo everyday and practice Norwegian 15-20 minutes a day. It’s crazy the difference makes and how noticeable it is if I skip a day. This was a great episode!

Best episode IMO. As someone who also has also had a TBI from snowboarding, this was awesome. So relatable. I can’t even ride motorcycles anymore because of the vertigo but I will stand with you, Chris, and Joe on the helmet issue. I tried a helmet while snowboarding after my recovery and it definitely threw me off. I say it’s safer for me without one. Like you addressed in this, and I agree, you can still get busted while wearing a helmet. Love you guys and thanks for all you do for the snowboarding community (even old broken heads like me).

Sick podcast guys! Something I’d like to add. I think some people often confuse TBI with concussions. Helmets won’t help prevent a concussion, but it can help prevent a TBI. I’ll totally take a concussion over a TBI. But you’re right, to each their own! I know some people that feel that they can’t ride well enough with a helmet, and that’s fine.

Being a skier from Colorado. Ligit there is no other way to carry your skis. When you carry them like under the skateboard carry you get hella tired. So many people just getting rocked in the head. lolol. One of the first lessons I've learned, "put your skis down when you turn." love the bomb holes!!

I got a concussion with a helmet on and I was bed for 2 weeks afterward. I couldn't watch tv or use a computer, because it gave me such a headache and nauseous. I had migraines for months. 8 years later, I still have some short term memory slips where I'll forget about something I just did, like brush my teeth or shampoo my hair. I have also been dyslexic all my life so I've worked through it. But after my concussion , I had a harder time keeping my spot on the page and prevent my head from spinning. It took a couple years to get back where I was at before.
I can't ride without a helmet anymore. I've tried but I just feel safer with a helmet. It just sucks trying to find the right helmet. Some fit weird or just don't sit right. It also doesn't help that I have a huge head so I can't fit a hat under a helmet. It also doesn't help that the more skate inspired helmets or less ski styled helmets just don't breath very well. I've been using Smith Vantage helmets because of the venting, but I'll admit, it looks kinda wack and yuppy.

I have broken my helmet from a slam and had a full concussion. I also had just lightly bumped my head on a rail and had a partial concussion in my occipital lobe was doing some weird things to my vision for about 15 minutes while fully conscious. Won't stop me from trying stuff tho.
