Another excellent vocal group, but not acapella, is Forestella. They're a South Korean male crossover quartet who can sing brilliantly basically anything. They're known as The Kings Of Harmony (although Voiceplay definitely provides tough competition).
Try their covers of Scarborough Fair, Hijo De La Luna, Inner Universe, Bohemian Rhapsody, Time In A Bottle, Shape Of You, Despacito and Je Suis Malade.
Their originals are equally good and are apparently easier to get through copyright. So listen to Save Our Lives, Utopia (first two songs in a trilogy) White Night, Snow Globe, Chagall's Dream and Kool.

I agree with you.
People forget that Layne was the group's baritone until Scott Porter left. It's easier, apparently, to replace a baritone than a beatboxer. But yes, it's still fun to hear Layne take a verse rather than blend with the harmony.
I love this song just in general, but it has a special place in my heart because it was my introduction to Voiceplay - it was the first video of theirs that I ever watched. And it's just so good! And I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction. 😊

I wanted to say that back when this song originated, it was called "The Whalermen". It is of course, speaking of catching whales with harpoons, bringing them on-board and cutting them up. "When the Tonguen is done" literally is referring to cutting the tongue out of the whale. The song also has a crazy Captain that is determined to catch the one that got away...even after death as a ghost ship. No judgment. History is what it is and mankind has always done what was needful to keep progressing.
I thought it meant cutting the flesh into long strips (tongue-shaped)
I really like this video. One impressive thing is that they are all different heights and they did the video with each row at the same level. Must have been switching our boxes like mad.

It makes sense because they had to stand very close to each other to fit in the shooting. They probably couldn't do it with a box in the middle... ^^
