Fun fact, getting monsters to join you via negotiation and forming a pact has been around since Megami Tensei for the NES/Famicom (the "Shin" part of the title was added when the series hit the SNES), aka the very first monster tamer game, and has been a part of every SMT game since.
Just in case anyone is wondering, you can only jump fences when running over ramps there aren’t many and it isn’t very important to the game! Loved the game! Great review!

I wonder how Monster Crown is in 2022? I tried looking if there's a patches made the game worth getting now but I couldn't find anyone reviewing the newest patch.
I LOVE this game a lot honestly! Everything about it says potential. I feel it just needs some serious polish and maybe even an instalment or two to actually reach the levels it should to compete as a monster tamer game. The bugs hurt them bad on launch I even waited a bit to go back into it but i see something special here. I was waiting to invest into some kind of competitor of another certain game we all kno of about and this feels like the one for that.
I am excited to pick this up- it is a shame that all these indie monster games keep launching needing patches, but it's great to see more tamer/collector games. I dig the idea of the evolution items and breeding, and there's a card collecting element too. Great review though- thanks for the video guys!
I heard it had some problems so it kinda warrants a wait for a sale until they can fix the problems but I like what it does to differentiate itself from a typical Pokémon clone
Thanks for the heads up about the price difference! I'd prefer to be able to play a game like this on the go, but maybe I'll look into the PC version or at least wait for a sale.
Hey I hope to see a review for DUSK here soon! I just picked it up after waiting for it to hit switch (had it on PC first) and I'm loving it! It's all I imagined it would be on the switch.
When I heard about this, it made me think of Dragon Warrior Monsters and DWM 2. I loved those games on the GBC and I have played them in my adult life through an emulator on my PC. I would love for Switch remakes of those games, or a brand new installment.
monster Hunter: I like you Mr monster would you care to join me I'll take care of you ! Monster: That sounds excellent a beneficial proposition to both parties Monster Hunter: excellent allow me to give you this contract to sign stating both parties understand and agree to each other's needs Monster: okay Monster Hunter: and just like that I got a new monster !? 🤔
I was in until that price tag came up. No, no thanks. Maybe it will go on sale someday and I’d love to try it then. I’d rather spend that money on voice of cards or something. Thanks SwitchUp!
I have been following this on and off on the PC and I'm surprised it released on Switch. If you want that mature JRPG Pokemon game, this is it, this is as mature as you can get it without finding a ROM made for that express purpose. Gonna have to research it some more to see if it's worth getting on my Indie Machine though lol. Edit: Yeah this guy patches almost on a weekly basis, very passionate about his product, I won't say you should feel obligated to pay the full price, but work is definitely being put in here as he seems to be going by a live model update system. He also seems to frequently hotfix things mentioned in his discord so he takes feedback directly from the community. As said in the vid though it is pushing $30 on switch whereas is it $20 on steam. Just laying it all out there, food for thought.
0:41 "you're not going to stand a chance against other tamers unless you know about the -" [sound cuts out] Me, already invested: "Know about what??" 😶
Had no idea this game existed. Been getting my monster kidnapping fix between Monster Sanctuary and Nexomon. Will pop it on the wishlist though. Hopefully a patch or two straightens things out. (Hate saying that so often nowadays)
I bought it when it came out. Im enjoying it. I just dont really care much for the music so far. But ive only played a little bit of game so far. The music is not very immersive to me.
I do love me a good Pokémon game. I loved Monster Sanctuary although I'm not entirely sure that counts as a Pokémon clone and am looking for another. I've been very hesitant on Nexomon Extinction on switch and wonder if this will surpass that as an option.
I wish reviewers would stop pushing voice acting on games. This definitely doesn't need it and I think it'd be jarring to have anyway. With the constant patches the dev seems to be putting out, I'm just waiting for a bit more polish before I grab this.
no it really doesn't. I can read and put in my own voice on characters which is really nice. Pushing voice acting as an added expense is dumb and unnecessary when those resources could be better used to polish or improve the overall game rather than add a shallow layer to the presentation because some people are too lazy to read and think all games now gotta be more like movies.
I am a sucker for monster collection games. As crazy as it sounds, Robopon 2 is one of my all time favorite games cause of the wackiness of the game. Unique style of monsters. And how you spark batteries instead of just catching. I really like when there is more to the game than just catching random monsters. Pokemon of course is a defining game of my childhood. But things like Dragon Quest Monster, Joker, and Jade Cocoon are more engaging to me cause of the fusion/breeding more in depth than the pokemon style of just better stats and occasionally a better moveset from eggs.
As I kind of think of it as like it Pokémon was meant for teens and up with mature themes on par with games of the 90s such as earthbound as I’m gonna get this pretty soon, on Amazon prime day because they’re doing like a monster collecting RPG bundle and you actually had a good deal if you get this title along with Temtem & Nexomon 1 + 2 Extinction Bundle.
Will be picking this up at some point as it's on my wishlist but have a lot to get through right now. Loving all the monster catching games we are getting now with this and the Nexomon games and up coming games like Coromom, Tem Tem, Monster Rancher 1 & 2 and obviously a couple of Pokemon games there is more than enough choice now. I will say this has a very distinct Dragon Quest Monsters vibe because they the crazy beading mechanics though which is great if you love that aspect.
I subscribe every single time I watch a new video (I watch ALL new videos) and UA-cam keeps on unsubscribing me 😑. The good thing is that Switch Up is my breakfast and lunch to watch when I am eating so I drop by anyway. Will get this game when it's on sale if they have patched it by then. The nostalgia of game boy Pokemon and the contract system sold me on it 😍!
I just don't understand the price of this game. It's 40$ on Switch and 23$ on PC (canadian dollar). I said to the dev that the gap between 23 and 40 was quite big for a indie game, especially if it's your first game and if you don't have a big publisher. He told me that it was a "early acces" price on Steam, but when the version 1.0 went out he didn't changed the price on Steam lol. It's sad because the game looks quite fun and promising. There is some indie games that I would easily pay 40$ and more (Hollow Knight, Bug Fables, The Messenger, CrossCode, etc), but not sure for this one.
Interesting spin on the Pokemon series. Not sure how this game will really feel comparatively to the old Pokemon games. However, I might give it a try. Again, thanks for all of your awesome videos!
I was really interested in this game so I'm happy to see that switch up did a review. Edit: it's seems pretty solid except for a few minor things that seem like they should be easy to patch.
It could be a timing thing as to be why you can't jump. I've encountered similar issues before with other games. I'm still willing to try it out. I think that this is the game that Pokemon should've been all along or developed to. Nintendo holds the reigns there. Found it for twenty on Amazon and that looks worth it to me.
I expierenced some crashes too. Especially when I want to rest at a bonfire, the game always crashes. 30$ ist way to much in my opinion... 15-20$ would suite the game much more.
Just my opinion but $45AUD is far to much, at $20 I'd consider buying and at $15 definitely would probably try it, however I'm not and never have been a pokemon player so guess I'm not the core audience but as a casual who might be interested given a cheaper price point I might of been interested.
Just finished Nexomon Extinction, which was refreshingly difficult towards the end - quite an emotional roller-coaster. Could Monster Crown be my next mon-them-up?
Patches are being sent out according to the dev but unfortunately Nintendo takes forever to approve it. The thing about the fences is there has to be a small ramp letting you kno you can jump over it, it's possible the writer forgot this. But at the same time I don't blame them I've seen the mechanic implemented like once since the game explained it to me. I'm not super far in the game but there hasn't been much jumping yet and I've been to the places they showed in this review.
I’ve played and beaten the game on console and it crashes a lot , so in my honest opinion $30 is an insane amount. It kinda comes off as the developers didn’t care n just are in it for the money, though i doubt thats the case. But other than possibly losing your progress the game is pretty good. The breeding system is unique and the overall gba vibe of the game is charming.
Wait, they actually ripped off the Stockade scene from Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time and Darkness? That's a ballsy move, especially since this game is supposed to be much, much darker in tone...
