@@IDriveHackneys Fantastic! I began a career as a songwriter at 60. I'll be returning to the studio to record two more songs in two weeks. Can't wait! Take care now.
Amazing! He'll be at Pappy and Harriet's in Pioneertown in a few weeks. He was a hero to me back in the 60s-70s. I can't believe he's still goin'! Wow!
Ramblin' Jack is a family friend. Had the pleasure of spending a very long day with him in Quartz Valley just North West of Ft Jones Calif a couple years ago... have some great photos. He is the same as he was when I first met him in the mid sixties. "Legend" is too tame a word for this guy... a veritable Ramblin' Saint of traditional style music.
I just served a BLT sandwich to this guy and he told me who he is so I looked him up… he’s on my fave UA-cam channel! WESTERN AF (and he was delighted when I showed it to him BTW)
With folk legends like him, I always feel a certain aura around them. He may not sing or play as good as he did decades ago, but he still has it, you know what I mean? Chords and lyrics below, have fun. Intro Am G Am x2 Chorus Am / G Am / Am / G Am Interlude Am G Am (x2 in Interlude 2) Outro Am G Am x2 [Intro] [Chorus] Well the cuckoo is a pretty bird She warbles as she flies But she never says cuckoo Til the 5th day of July Ayahah, Ayahah Mhmmmmhmmmhmmm [Interlude] [Verse 1] I've gambled in England And I've gambled in Spain If I have for gamble I'll win you next game [Chorus] Well the cuckoo is a pretty bird She warbles as she flies But she never says cuckoo Til the 5th day of July [Interlude] [Verse 2] Oh willy, oh willy I'm afraid of your ways Your mind is to gambling And lead me astray [Chorus] Well the cuckoo is a pretty bird She warbles as she flies But she never says cuckoo Til the 5th day of July [Outro]
This venue, Live From the Divide, in Bozeman, MT is my favorite small venue. A capacity crowd is about 50 people and every person there has a musical experience that will be memorable.
Today I had the honor of meeting Ramblin Jack when he toured The Bob Dylan Center. Such a sweet human. Also met Cole (Woody’s grandson) today at Woody Guthrie Center. I’m still starstruck
I don't know who Daryl Adams is, word has it he was a damn good banjo picker, but I can only imagine if he were playing along with this tune it'd be all the more amazing. Cuckoo is such a great song, but this might be my favorite version.
Thanks V, The bass started as an Eastman guitar. The fingerboard was removed and replaced with a worn down upright bass fingerboard. I then had a wrap-a-round tailpiece designed to accommodate the long windings of upright strings. Designed a bridge & bridge plate to distribute the tension. Just by luck an Underwood pickup fit perfectly under the bridge. This came about from an idea bassist Todd Phillips and I had years ago. The initial work was done by Knutson Luthiery. The bridge design was completed by Gael McKeon in ebony. Larry John of San Rafael, CA built the maple version I use now. It's about a 30" scale length. Maybe more than you wanted to know??
How many know that Ramblin' Jack Elliott is really a Jewish boy from Brooklyn named Elliott Adnopoz? When Bob Dylan initially found out, he couldn't stop laughing! A cowboy from Flatbush!
Can't believe this. He's my father. My mom talked about hin in and his time in monterey California. I'm not looking for anything but just am wondering what is truth. He rambled through greenfield and salinas ca. Maybe I'm just lieing but is he my father?
I love it when musicians never say die. At 91, not everyone can pull this off, which is why Jack is a legend.
He’s playing at Rancho Nicasio next week
(January 19, 2024)

Man, it's so cool to see Ramblin' Jack still pickin' & singin'. I bought my first album of his when I was a teenager. (I'm 63 now.) Great stuff.
Happy to see he's still kicking and picking

I just “discovered” this channel and I can’t believe how much beautiful music there is but also to see this man still picking is such a gem.
A treasure trove for sure!
Ramble on, Jack....this guy has been doing this since I was a baby... and I am an old man, myself. Much respect.
He's a ramblin legend 👏

He's lived up to his name!
he’s an absolute legend
Nothing like old souls with cowboy hats on.
An American legend that is dying.
What a wonderful treat. Thank you so much needed this one.

Reminds me of my youth in the late 60's when Jack and Darren played the Skiffle club in London's Soho. Great days. Both absolutely charming.

@@saintgroove8914 absolutely incredible, the precision is flawless. thanks for sharing.
Guy probably hopped on his horse in the bar and rode off into the sunset right after.
Paul Knight on bass.
I thought it was the 4th day of July
This video is awesome. Perhaps the finest video I’ve ever heard or seen in half a century
If y’all take suggestions here, bring on the Funky Geezer! Hell of a voice that needs more ears

How many know that Ramblin' Jack Elliott is really a Jewish boy from Brooklyn named Elliott Adnopoz? When Bob Dylan initially found out, he couldn't stop laughing! A cowboy from Flatbush!
