Yeah! I have had big fun playing drunken master in D&D. I even did get skill for acting to make my drunken act more beliewable to confuse the NPCs. Pure fun when ”dump” drunken semi giant come with his big broom and large water bucket and causes havock! 😂😂😂

And the second I heard that they were adding Bladesinger, I knew you'd need to talk about it. Thanks for making sure this stream got posted to the channel, I was stuck at work when it was live!
I REALLY wanted them to add the Aberrant mind sorcerer, it's perfect for the setting, but I'm so happy about Larian dropping this for free! They are awesome And I was craving SO MUCH for toll the dead! Now Shadowheart will finally hit something 😂
I think it's because you already have the tadpole that they didn't add it, psychic damage is usually rare in DnD but in this game every character has easy access to it so aberrant mind would be kind of redundant. I get wanting to have it tho.
For Death Clerics in 2024 D&D, *Chill Touch* has surprisingly become the most important spell. This subclass is heavily geared towards using specifically necromancy melee attack spells. Previously, it had to rely on Inflict Wounds, which no longer even has an attack roll. But with Chill Touch having become a melee cantrip, its damage output has become more sustainable. The only other spells that Death Cleric can rely on are Wrathful Smite, which you can only access with the Shadow-Touched feat, and Vampiric Touch, which is a 3rd-level spell. Of course, Toll the Dead is still a great ranged damage option for them. And being able to cast Spare the Dying on two targets at once is nice too. Overall, a well-built Death Clerics makes for a cool and unusual off-tank with all the usual support potential of the base class. Definitely worth looking into.
I really appreciate you streaming this and also it's really healthy to prioritize your family during the holidays. Thrilled to get something unscripted so that you can bake a pie :D
I must say, I think the subclasses they picked are really good choices. I assume the goal is to add variety in options and play styles, and if that is so, subclasses like Shadow Sorcery, Bladsinger, Drunken Master, Circle of Stars, etc are perfect

I am beyond excited for these new subclasses, shadow sorcerer and bladesinger are probably front of mind for me, I am aware of them but never tried them out in an capacity; also, digging the unscripted off the cuff video!
I really like that they (mostly) went with somewhat underrepresented subclasses like swarmkeeper, drunken master, arcane archer, or death cleric because these subclasses especially the first three are in dire need of some love and/or more appreciation
We know they used Baldur's Gate 3 to test some ideas for Player's Handbook 2024, so I wonder if some of these subclasses will show up in the new Forgotten Realms book next year? Like, Bladesinger is a given.
@AwesomeWookiee same here, and Arcane Archer. I remember playtesting it the first time around, and it was pretty good, but not quite perfect. Only getting two arrows between short rests feels inadequate.

@ twice per short rest, but yeah My favorite way to fix it is once you use a shot option you know, you cant use THAT shot until your next short rest, similar to the rune knight
@@talongreenlee7704 Honestly, I'd have made it a dice mechanic like superiority dice or Psionic dice. Each school of magic should have 3 shots associated with it (still gotta pick from the list, nobody gets them all). Dice recover on a long rest. Shot 1 adds the dice to the attack roll and has a minor magical effect attached (save vs being teleported 5ft in a random direction, disadvantage on saves for 1 round, etc). Shot 2 has a similar effect but not the same one, and adds the die to damage but not the atack. Die 3 deals its damage to the attacker but has a more powerful effect (on par with a level 2 or 3 spell). I'd also give the class very limited spellcasting abilities, basically half Warlock spell slots with no cantrips and only access to Ranger and Wizard combat spells (all the arrow spells, booming blade, etc). No high level magic, just a 1/short rest spray of flaming arrows or something. But there's a reason nobody asks me to design/fix games.

I’m amazed at some of the choices they went with for subclasses. Things like Shadow and Death seem like no-brainers considering the story of the game, but I think for me Hexblade wasn’t necessarily top of my list when they have an Undead patron warlock in the game, I also thought the Phantom Rogue would have been on theme. All that said super excited with what they haven’t said, I’m definitely putting the cart before the horse, but they kind of just gave one or two subclass features for each here and I’m hoping for some features that incentivize full level progression, and just as you alluded to bringing in the Blade-trips would really bring things to the next level. An overly excited, and optimistic, thank you for the summary video.

I’d gladly pay for all of these updates. In fact, I wish there was a way that I could pay Larian for them. It just doesn’t seem right that they’re all free.
Cha primary, Int secondary, Dex tertiary. Swashbuckler rogue, blade pact warlock, bladesinger wizard. Won't really come online until probably act 3, but could be fun to respec in to.
Happy Thanksgiving! This was a wonderful gift to all your viewers. If they can actually fix arcane archer so it doesn't suck I will be amazed. Definitely got to play this as it probably will be the last big update from the Devs for BG3.
One thing that doesn’t cross over between Pact of the Blade and Hexblade is the medium armor proficiency Hexblade gives. While you could just start as a paladin to get heavy armor, the medium armor could allow for more capable front line pure warlocks. Although I’m always tempted to pick up 2 levels for smite…
I rewatched, and wanted to mention that i doubt they will give extra uses of arcane shots, but rather probably boost the way magic arrows work in game with the subclass. Also, i had a player play an arcane archer in a game i ran, and i buffed it by giving it the spellcasting feature from ek, and allowing them to spend spell slots to fire extra arrow, on top of the ones per short rest. Worked well, and gave them some extra utility outside combat too. If i was to do it again for another player, i think id boost the arrows depending on spell slot used. Maybe add 1 to dc or damage per spell level, or something. Just wanted to mention it, incase you have a dm who would let you play a homebrew version, so you can live your arcane dreams :D
Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, and UA-cam is doing weird things and freezing when I try to search the comments, but the video of the Arcane Archer shows the character use an ability and one of the little icons goes from 4 to 3. That suggests to me that we will get at least 4 uses of the ability per long rest (and maybe per short rest), which makes the subclass much more intriguing. And the fight seems to be the one at the Gates of the Druid grove, so it's pretty early in the game. If they simply give as many uses as Battle Masters get Superiority Dice, the subclass is pretty cool.
57:40 Comment two, Electric Boogaloo: Pierced and Pinched exist in game both cause the enemy to take a small amount of damage when they move. So a ranger dip or even a Dagger runner build would be neat.
I've always thought that Arcane Archer is underrated, yes AA starts out with 2 uses instead of the 4 that Battle Master get, but their uses are also around twice as potent. Later on the BM gets up to 6 uses while AA stays at 2, but the recovery of 1 use when starting with 0 at initiative is twice as powerful for AA, and AA gets a weaponized bonus action.
It was a bit of a joke that my favorite Arcane Shot was Banishing, because I had a habit of using to remove non-combatants from combat. Like, if someone was holding someone else hostage, I would just shoot the hostage with Banishing Arrow and remove them from the equation. Or there was a prisoner being transported in a caged cart, so I set him free by banishing him and then by the time he came back the cart was further down the road.
Probably one of the few players that doesn't care about Hexblade or Blade singer. The one I'm SUPER HYPED for is the Swarmkeeper Ranger. Jellyfish, moths, bees, I love all of them. Hell, my very first and only complete playthrough of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous was The Swarm That Walks.
Crown paladins will be awesome. I'm fairly sure that champion challenge will be an aoe-taunt (they made compelling duel a taunt, and that one is worded similar), and then there is the little bonus that crown paladins get spirit guardians. Luminous armor, ring of protection, cloak of protection, protection fighting style, 14 dex and a shield gives 22 - 23 AC + radiating orb, and enemies will focus you thanks to taunt. Add in reveberation, phalar aluve, cull the weak and callous glow ring and you are an absolute monster against hordes. You are also perfect for the zaithisk, since you have a lot of free bonus actions when going sword + shield. And on top of that you are still a paladin, so you are very useful against bosses, even if you don't reach the power of a 2handed vengeance paladin. Your crits will still do a lot of damage.
One thing that I noticed didn’t get much discussion time in this video was itemization. In regards to the potential shortcomings of Bladesinger, Shadow Blade is available via a ring, and I remember a robe that lets you add your spellcasting ability mod to all saving throws if you’re concentrating. Saving throws was the Bladesinger’s one real vulnerability, so that could make you nigh unstoppable. My ultimate point is that there might be some ways to make all the builds feel powerful when taking itemization into account while building them
Just curious if you get excited thinking of Edgedancers from the Stormlight Archives? The image of a magical ice dancer gliding around slicing with a shardblade... chefs kiss..
Curses just when I thought I'd finally break free of BG3 for a reasonable length of time it gets new and interesting again... They could pick the worse subclasses ever and it would still be fun to figure out how to make them work, and they really are not that - skimming through the list some really interesting choices here. Only bummer is still no official Artificer, which would really help make Wizard seem more multiclass dippable and is just a fun class to mix things up further.
I'm loving the upgrades we're being we're being teased with. Death clerics that can make zombies explode, and a better drunken monk. I definitely want an upgraded arcane archer. EDIT: With regarding to blinding opponents, arcane archer had Shadow Arrow, which dealt psychic damage and the enemy had to make a Wisdom save or couldn't see farther than 5 feet away until the start of your next turn. Larian's sounds like a version of that.
0:25 Looks like you've lost some weight and bulking, cheeks aren't as full, triceps are showing - Good for you, stay hydrated and don't take it too hard, too fast. Trust me, you're going to need your joints 20yrs from now It's a shame they haven't added M3 to the spell list but the Tiefling's "Hellish Resistance" and the new Bladesinger subclass SHOULD let me (mostly)recreate my dex-based Bladesinger of olde. A few tweaks here and there with the party's tactics and I can probably manage most encounters with resistance, dex-save and a minor heal at the end of the encounter :)
I mean, it was kinda obvious that Death Cleric had to be the cleric class considering the importance of Shar in the story. Sad it's not twilight cleric tho. But hey, we get bladesingers :D
I tried some of these subclasses in official mods. Looks like Larian is doing them a bit differently, it will be really curious to compare Swashbuckler and Bladesinger. Also, finally a subclass for a beer drinking monk, can make a cool Stone Cold Steve Austin roleplay. 😅 Edit: there's official modding support since September, you can download some of the amazing mods using in-game Modmanager.
I got so excited when I saw the new classes they added the mad lads 😂
One thing that doesn’t cross over between Pact of the Blade and Hexblade is the medium armor proficiency Hexblade gives. While you could just start as a paladin to get heavy armor, the medium armor could allow for more capable front line pure warlocks. Although I’m always tempted to pick up 2 levels for smite…
Death Cleric!! Cannot wait for this to drop.
I'm sad we aren't getting Aberrant Mind Sorc. It fits so well into the plot of BG3.
Im looking forward to your new builds for hexblade bladesinger glamour bard etc
Can’t wait to see what you do with these subclasses dude 😂😂
Got to admit- I don’t play bg3 but I’m here for Colby: Colby! Colby! Colby!
So happy for this news. Larian is too kind.
Havent been able to watch many d4 videos as i hate change and really dont like what ive been seeing from 5e 2024. So glad to be back!
I’m all for some weird giant barb/ drunken monk shenanigans. Dwarf bouncer.
I haven't played BG3 after the first time they introduced honor mode and got 100%. This is definitely a great incentive to replay it again!
I kind of hope they add the bladetrips for bladesingers
He said the thing! Time to drink!
SWarmkeeper ranger and light cleric behold the power of true fireflies!!!!!!!!!!
57:40 Comment two, Electric Boogaloo: Pierced and Pinched exist in game both cause the enemy to take a small amount of damage when they move. So a ranger dip or even a Dagger runner build would be neat.
Everytime I think I will be able to stop playing BG3 this shit happens!!!! MY LIFE IS DOOMED
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this, I'll definitely make another playthrough next year, take care !
I am SO STOKED!
Larian in John Wick's voice "Yeah. Im thinking im back".
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 LOL I heard "as a college of grammar bard ...", well Colby that would be homebrew. 😂😉🤪😁
1:16:53 I think they said they were adding more spells and cantrips, I swear I heard/read that somewhere. Don’t know what they will be though.
Love Oath of Crown. Spirit Guardians on a Paladin is amazing.
Shame Swarmkeeper doesnt summon bats; would have been perfect for Astarion
Probably one of the few players that doesn't care about Hexblade or Blade singer. The one I'm SUPER HYPED for is the Swarmkeeper Ranger. Jellyfish, moths, bees, I love all of them. Hell, my very first and only complete playthrough of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous was The Swarm That Walks.
A barbarian better at throwing bodies and a cleric capable of making said bodies into bombs... diabolical combo
Can't wait to play a Bladesinger, Hexblade, Shadow Sorc, and Drunken Master.
Better believe this was the first channel I went to after seeing the patch news
Sven: Colby we need you for another build video
Colby: I’m retired general, you gonna have to find another man
Sven: 12 new s…..
Colby: I’m inn🫡
"BEASTSLAYER: Scale of 1 to Bladsinger, how excited are we for this update?"
Hexblade
One thing that I noticed didn’t get much discussion time in this video was itemization. In regards to the potential shortcomings of Bladesinger, Shadow Blade is available via a ring, and I remember a robe that lets you add your spellcasting ability mod to all saving throws if you’re concentrating. Saving throws was the Bladesinger’s one real vulnerability, so that could make you nigh unstoppable. My ultimate point is that there might be some ways to make all the builds feel powerful when taking itemization into account while building them
@@wargodmarrs9492 it’s not so much the spells, but also the ability to upcast them like a full caster. The shadow blade ring doesn’t :(
Just curious if you get excited thinking of Edgedancers from the Stormlight Archives? The image of a magical ice dancer gliding around slicing with a shardblade... chefs kiss..
@@fyre8011 all the orders!
Trust me, you're going to need your joints 20yrs from now
It's a shame they haven't added M3 to the spell list but the Tiefling's "Hellish Resistance" and the new Bladesinger subclass SHOULD let me (mostly)recreate my dex-based Bladesinger of olde.
I would have preferred the twilight cleric. Death cleric is innately evil.
I mean so is Shar 🤷@@libertylion6088
@@libertylion6088 I mean so is Shar tbf. Death and Trcikery are her domains so its cool to have another subclass in a Dark Justicicar run
I tried some of these subclasses in official mods. Looks like Larian is doing them a bit differently, it will be really curious to compare Swashbuckler and Bladesinger. Also, finally a subclass for a beer drinking monk, can make a cool Stone Cold Steve Austin roleplay. 😅
Edit: there's official modding support since September, you can download some of the amazing mods using in-game Modmanager. There's a Mystra's Spells mod with all kinds of spells from 5e, it has Booming Blade, Green Flame Blade and a bunch of others.
Its hard buddy i get it. Bg3 pulls me back every time.
Me *trying to play a different game
Larian “we added new stuff to bg3!!”
Me: “goddamn it I gotta go back” 😂
I hope the Bladesinger subclass is like the modded one on Nexus. That mod is so good.
I always love your stuff
Same class 4 party playthrough incoming !
OMG, PLEASE do some BG3 builds for these subclasses!
Thanks so much!
Diablo 3 had Necros with corpse explosion too fyi
