    Now that hide was Awesome! I have seen hides like that for diving birds, but I wouldn't have thought of it for squirrel. That was too cool!

      Cheers Jon. They are so entertaining at places such as this, they were literally coming right up to the windows of the hide. A fun days photography 👍🏻

    What a great place!! I just love these red squirrels. They are so much cuter than what we have here in the U.S. The reflection pond is a great idea!!

      Paul runs an absolutely wonderful setup here with the Red Squirrels and you are absolutely right they are super cute and very photogenic. Reflection pools give that unique opportunity that you would struggle to achieve without the hide setup. Thanks again Patty

    Great video & it's what made me book a few days around Hawes during the summer. I had an amazing time & the hours i was there just seem to whizz by. I had the young squirrels entering the hide to pinch nuts from my supply :D
    I use a D500 & have a Z7 too.
    I'm also booked on 2 trips on the boat from Mull in the hope of photographing the eagles (as in one of your other video's)
    I have to ask how much better the Z9 is for fast moving subjects against the D500 ?
    Any info/help is much appreciated.
    Keep your great video's coming.

    • @danwillis_photography

      Thanks for the great feedback Lee it’s much appreciated, glad the videos have inspired you and hope you get some great shots in Mull.
      As for the comparison between the Z9 and the D500……. The D500 will always have a very special place in my heart and I believe that it is a sensational camera in its own right. The Z9 has certainly upped my keeper rate as the AF system is incredible but in all honesty I have not been in too many situations where I would have felt disadvantaged by the D500 and in some situations (such as the Ospreys in Aviemore) I think the D500 would have faired better. It’s the reason I have programmed one of my front function buttons to single point focus just like the D500.
      Cheers again 👍🏻

    Looks great! Have you done any lens calibration with the D500? I just went out shooting again with mine and with smaller subjects like squirrels I don't always get the eyes tack sharp, despite them being fairly static. I may well have to calibrate at some point!
    Nice photos and lovely video!

    • @danwillis_photography
      @danwillis_photography  Рік тому +1

      Thanks very much for your comment it’s really appreciated.
      I have done some lens calibration with my D500 and the Sigma 150-600. I was experiencing a very similar problem to yourself and the calibration fixed that. I’ve not however seen so much of the issue with the Nikon 500mm f4 so presumed it was a third party lens issue. You have certainly made me consider looking into calibration again 👍🏻

    Just watched this after recommending this to you earlier today...then got told you had been here a year ago lol. So cool seeing this video and your enthusiasm for photography, the squirrels and just spending time with your dad. I have to ask though, at @7:53, is that your dad counting down I can hear when you do the gasp?? ;-)

    • @danwillis_photography
      @danwillis_photography  5 місяців тому +1

      😂😂😂 this was an early video for us and we’ve definitely moved on a lot from then, it most definitely is Pops counting us in for the gasp. I rewatched it after your comment and was giggling at that.
      All the very best mate 👍🏻

      @zebeddy 5 місяців тому +1

      @@danwillis_photography to be fair, the only reason I saw it was because I rewound the video to look at the previous squirrel shot just before the gasp which I really liked. It actually adds character to the video and it made me chuckle. It’s just nice seeing you and your dad together having fun. ☺️

    Awesome shots of the Squirrels and the swimming Squirrel was a real bonus. I also have the D500, what AF Area Mode did you use to capture the jumping Squirrels?

    • @danwillis_photography
      @danwillis_photography  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks Gary, yeah I use continuous focus on the single point for this shot as it was pre focused and a set point and then autofocus turned off on the lens to ensure that it did not hunt.

    Hi, great footage… was you just using the 300mm at the reflection hide? Would 500mm be too much? Thank you

    • @danwillis_photography
      @danwillis_photography  2 роки тому

      Great question. I was using a 70-200 on a crop sensor and that was perfect for most of the shots. I have a 500 prime which would have been great for the small song birds which visit the reflection pool but far too much for the squirrels 🐿
